Mick J --
I can understand how hard it is to say those two words: "I'm gay." I tried to deny it for years and got depressed to the point that I didn't care to live. I can only tell you that when you can say those two words, you will feel as giddy as you did today.
But it is something that you have to come to terms with and be able to admit to yourself. It sounds like you have everything going for you; I wouldn't miss the opportunity to possibly meet someone that is in the same place as you and then you could grow together.
I also know what it's like to be shy; hell, I hadn't dated in years when I came out and wasn't sure if I would be attractive. After I got hit on the first weekend I went to a gay club and told how good looking I was, it helped me make the next step. You can do the same; have your friend set up a meeting for the two of you. You don't have to end up in bed the first night but you might just get the opportunity to meet the man of your dreams!
