There are areas in the US where anti-prostitution laws are very strictly enforced.

The same disparity that causes those areas to exist, also lets gay marriage exist in Massachusetts. Federal law only covers so much. I was referring to the overall average.

That is to say, I can go downtown tonight and get me a cute guy if I hand him some dough. I could even post myself on craigslist like thi$ and offer my a$$ up to $omeone generou$... without worrying about getting arrested. My freedom to purchase and offer prostitution isn't really something I feel is being limited by the government right now.

Theoretically, there's nothing wrong with prostitution. I think, though, that legalizing it at this point in time wouldn't be very practical, and I see no pressing reason for society to do so. The freedom and restrictions around prostitution are in a relative 'balance', when compared to other facets of our society. We have much bigger problems to worry about.

No matter what laws are made, there will always be people out there who are desperate enough for sex to be willing to pay for it. And there will always be an industry willing to service them.

Around this time last year, five hookers working the streets of Ipswich were murdered. Since then, the police have clamped down on the red-light district in order to get the girls off the street. But all it really means is that they've gone where the cops can't see them, and therefore could be in even more danger than before.

If it brings in legalized, regulated brothels where the girls are safe, then yes, I'm in favour.

I am all for giving prostitutes full protection of the law.

I am against the government displaying approval of prostitution.

Legalizing prostitution isn't really necessary- our current policy of illegality without any real strict enforcement is alright, but our treatment of prostitutes in court is a problem.

Forgive my obtuseness, but unless covered by a law (or laws) how might one give prostitutes the "full protection of the law"? And just try asking someone for "a go" only to discover that they are undercover vice officers. Not a pretty thought. The negative aspects of blackmail, drug dependency, physical abuse, and ,yes, the murder of society's "throw aways" would be greatly reduced (if not ended) with legalization...| Not a "magic bullet", but better than the current options.

I think it is legal and regulated in the Netherlands, I will be curious to hear the opinion of our fellow JUBers from the Netherlands

Hi!

Well, obviously God has not struck us Dutchies down, even though we have gay marriage, legalised soft drugs and yes, legalised prostitution. We too have our share of illegal prostitution, but that is completely impossible to get rid of. Most prostitutes here are licensed, legal workers and though there still is somewhat of a social stigma, it is a perfectly normal profession from a legal point-of-view. I feel one of the biggest advantages of legalised prostitution is that it's more controlled than if it were illegal. There is, however, something much more important imho. There are now agencies and foundations which aim to help prostitutes who want to get tested on STDs, or who want to get out but find it hard. Also, these women can now get far better emotional assistance, should it be needed.

The way I see it is this: prostitution will be around anyway. Why not make sure, to the best of your capabilities, that the women who do it are not exploited?

Is hustling/prostitution legal?!

Forgive me if I seem so naive. I was watching Memento and the main character grabs the yellowbook telephone directory and calls up a female prostitute to come to his motel.

So my question is, is this legal?! If not, then how come there are phones listed on the directory? If it is, under what is it listed? Anyone have any experience?

Just wondering.

Re: Is hustling/prostitution legal?!

it depends on the state. Nevada allows it.. I do not know if there are others. it is illegal here in Wisconsin

Re: Is hustling/prostitution legal?!

they might have been listed as an "escort". From a legal perspective, escort agencies claim that they are dispatching escorts to provide a social or conversational service, since prostitution laws often forbid taking payment for sex or communicating for the purpose of arranging a contract for sexual services. Advertisements for escort agencies often carefully skirt the legal line, and avoid specifically offering prostitution or sexual services.
I used to see those type of adds all the time in New Orleans.

Re: Is hustling/prostitution legal?!

"listed as an "escort".

Exactly...The yellow pages in my town has about 2 or 3 pages of Escort services..We all know they're just Prostitutes that bathe regularly and wear nicer clothes...LOL...Instead of picking them up on the corner they'll come to you..

I don't care how Horny or Fucking hard-up I am for some Damn sex..I'm NOT paying any Damn-body to sleep with me..HELL no...

There's no kind of Dick and Pussy that's worth Sucking & Fucking for $100 plus dollars..My Dick and Ass is free to Suck, Fuck & Eat and so should yours be....Always keep your "Booty-Call" note book in a safe place and refer to it when you need to...

Re: Is hustling/prostitution legal?!

It very much depends on where you are if it is legal or not. And yes, in most states you will find escort services listed, which is just a front for a prostitution ring. I have never used one - nor would I ever - not paying for sex! When all else fails, go to the adult book store and there is almost always someone looking for action.

Re: Is hustling/prostitution legal?!

The Netherlands legalised it. It is seen as just a regular job like any else. Sweden has very prohibitive legislation and all prostitution is now on boats on the Baltic. It flourishes as never before.

Re: Is hustling/prostitution legal?!

I read recently somewhere that in Rhode Island it's legal to advertise for prostitution. I'm too lazy to look into it further as I have no interest in it but that sounds interesting. Why there? I don't know.

Re: Is hustling/prostitution legal?!

with all the money we spend sometimes on a date just to pork a broad...........?

yea, it's legal, we just don't call it 'prostitution', so it's okay

Legalize Prostitution?

Just recently I was remembered by a fellow mod that prostitution is illegal in most of the US states - as it is in many other countries. Coming from a country where it has been legalized for a long time, I just tend to forget that. Especially since this hardly gets any headlines at all. You hear more about the efforts of legalizing cannabis in whatever country than you ever hear that some country wants to legalize prostitution.
Is this that off the tables? Or does everybody fear that legalizing prostitution would start the decay of moral standards and lead to a country of chaos?
I think legal prostitution gives the sex workers the rights they need to do their job without the need to depend on other illegal activities and frees them from oppressors using them.
Let's not think about illegal immigrants working as prostitutes for a moment, focus on "otherwise" perfectly fine citizens. What are your thoughts on this?

Re: Legalize Prostitution?

There are a very few places where it isn't illegal here.

I think it should be legal and regulated.

You do a lot less harm by regulating it in the light than you do letting it flourish in the dark.

Re: Male Prostitution in Vegas?

So as far as I know female prostitution is allowed in Las Vegas but male prostitution isn't? We'll until now...

But no I would not go to a brothel lol, maybe to work there sure :P

I think its a great idea though.

Re: Male Prostitution in Vegas?

In a TRAILER! I think not.

Re: Male Prostitution in Vegas?

Davis said she wants to add two men to the three women she currently has living and working at her compound of trailers off U.S. 95 about 150 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

She said the women usually charge about $300 per hour for the five to 20 customers who visit on any given night.

That's just nasty!
