Legend Of Zelda

My problem lies in the fact that I have never even heard of Legacy of Kain, yet. . .

I'm not surprised. Hell it was complete chance I came across the game at my uncle's house. I never saw one commercial for it until like...the 3rd installment.

Out of the games I played on my antiquated Nintendo systems, Zelda was the best.

Please don't call me a liar to my face before you know all the facts.

I'm not calling you a liar. In fact, you've done a good thing right there. You said on your Nintendo systems, Zelda was the best. You didn't name a specific. Let alone the token video game that everyone says is the best. That's like me saying out of the games on my Playstation systems, Final Fantasy were the best. That's an opinion I can deal with.

It's the "old school gamers" that say blindly that super mario 1 was the best game ever. And that is a completely ridiculous. If that game was released today with updated graphics and new names for the characters the damn thing probably wouldn't get over a 6 on any critic site.

I've never heard of Legacy of Kain either.

But, The Legend Of Zelda is the best series of games I have ever played.
Although Resident Evil (1) Remake on Gamecube comes close.

I would say my favorites would be...

1. A Link to the Past
2. Orcarina of Time: Master Quest
3. Majora's Mask
4. Legend of Zelda: 2nd Quest
5. Link's Adventure

#5 is that game because it holds a soft place in my heart when my friend got seizure after he died (in game).

I cannot believe I forgot to mention "The Wind Waker" in my OP. #-o

A fantastic game. I still never found all the "big" treasures on the seas from the treasure maps. I think I had about 3 or 4 to go. Dammit.

I adore the Zelda series.

I suppose I have a rare distinction (at least of people my age) of playing and beating them in the order they were released.

My favorite would still have to be A Link to the Past. (even with the bastardized english name)

They're all great though, as far as I'm concerned. Although, it is true that Twilight Princess seemed to be a copy of Ocarina of Time as most say, they also fail to mention that Ocarina of Time was an even closer copy of A Link to the Past:

Collect 3 Pendants/Spiritual gems

Pull the Master Sword from it's pedestal

Get forced into a Dark World/the future

Gather the 7 crystals/6 emblems to get the power of the maidens/sages

Use that power to unlock a pathway to Ganon's Tower

Defeat Ganon

Give or take a few minor details from each game, and they're basically the same thing. Only difference being one's fully 3d, while the other isn't.

As a side note, not to start a huge argument, there is validity to saying older games are the best ones ever released.

I tend to think of it as prices being adjusted for inflation. Sure way back in the day one million dollars wasn't much, but today that same one million dollar transaction would take billions if not more, so it's still one of the most expensive purchases in history.

Same as games. Sure Super Mario Bros. is kinda sucky compared to what we have today, but back then it was great, and innovative for it's time, and today's games wouldn't be possible without the classics. You can't downplay the Ford Model T because a Lexus is shinier and drives smoother.

Please don’t get me started on saying how much I love the Zelda games (minus the three CD games, thankfully non Nintendo made). As for the new Zelda game there is one coming out, doubtfully this year though there is still a while left and the rumors that I have heard on the net (non-confirmed) is that the game is going to be more first person (think Metroid Prime Trilogy…Prime, Echoes, Corruption) but have not really hard more then that, just that is what they were thinking, now it could be totally scraped idea now. Don’t worry not going Fire Emblem style (Zelda Tactics would not go well). There was also the weird email sent out that just said “…MORE THEN 10 YEARS AGO” Who knows what that is about…also there is rumors of a Zelda live action movie (God I hope not) called “The Legend of Zelda: The Hero of Time” big spoof I believe
Here’s the lay down of rumors all over the net about the new Zelda game, nothing confirmed, yet one thing in common the new Zelda is not part of the current timeline, remember TP is the last Zelda game of its type and WW is the last on the current timeline (yes there is one). Rumors say one the new Zelda is set in the far future (space ageish 3000’s) two the new Zelda games goes war like with new hero, new villain, but same Zelda (since all Princesses are to be named Zelda (decided back around the first Zelda game). Three there are the rumors of another Zelda that is more OOT style but go to the future not the past. Like I said nothing is confirmed but can’t wait to see what comes out.

I posted a video of the future Zelda which was an April fools joke, much like the live action movie that was rumoured. It's just that, a rumour.

I also heard - wish I could remember where - people had asked Nintendo if Zelda was going a more "Oblivion" style and it was received with replies of something like, Zelda is going to be different, but not that different... might have been on IGN?

I didn't say a game was to be released this year - only announced. I only need to be informed that the new Zelda is going to be released in the next two years to give me something to wait for! lol

Zelda is the best video game series ever... Imo. My favorite has got to be Majora's Mask. The game was brilliant. It was basically built with metaphors.. symbolism.. and just had this depth that drove me wild. It was also incredibly dark and haunting - which I love.

But, I was kinda dissapointed with Twilight Princess. The game was too watered down.. Too easy.. and the story was just a rehash of everything else. And as a bad cherry on top, they destroyed Best Ganon. Sigh.

But it was enjoyable I guess. Just not as mind blowing as previous game.

I've played them all. I get goosebumps every single time I play Ganondorf/Ganon in Ocarina of Time, and Wind Waker's prologue still chokes me up.

I'm hoping to see a real shift in the series, however. It's definitely in need of it. I liked Twilight Princess, and it really is a fantastic entry, but at the same time, it felt too familiar. I'm thinking the next Zelda may be drastically different than what we're used to. Miyamoto is a big fan of first-person view; it was his idea to make Metroid Prime in first-person and early designs of Ocarina of Time featured some first-person gameplay. I'm thinking we might see some of that in the next installment.

It means TP was basically a little bit of every past Zelda game. The more obvious repeat being OoT. I'm aware that OoT wasn't all that of an original story - but it's design, ideas and content was new and fresh. TP basically just reused the same stuff.

For example - How many times do we need to see Zora's Domain trapped under ice?

At least we managed to get Zora's Domain get out of the ice!

Anyway, just a bit of news.
Majora's Mask is now available on the Virtual Console.

I don't understand it either, I love every Zelda game I have played.
And Windwaker is not an exception - I loved the art style. I prefer the Twilight Princess look but Windwaker was still beautiful. And it had a good story as well.
I actually wanted the sequel to be Twilight Princess graphics (mostly for the beautiful water) and a cool Pirate battle sort of thing. Awesome! Link the pirate.

Yeah, I remember when I heard this I started doing cartwheels down the hall. MM is the greatest video game ever... Imo.

I heard about it being released in Japan a few days ago and just assumed it would be ages before we got it.
I went on the shop today and there it was, I bought it straight away.
I've done the swamp now and I have the Goron mask. Not sure how to get the song though...

So its already out? Oh wow. I gotta get on that. I haven't touched the system for quite some time.

Okay.. so you're trying to get the Goron song? Uhmmm... I think you get it from the Elder.. who dies or something just before finishing it.. Then you get the rest from his son. I believe.
