Lesbian ROTC Student Asked To Repay Scholarship

The person in question is a former student of mine. Knowing what I know of her, I really can't imagine that this was an attempt to scam the military out of a college education. I think it was a misguided attempt on her part to challenge DADT. I don't think she thought things through, but I think her intentions were honest.
 
The attitude of some of you morons in this thread makes me sick. With friends like these, who needs enemies???

You all are perfectly happy for Bible thumping army homophobes (which I bet represent a good % of them) to get scholarships, but when a lesbian (who may or not have known back then that she was a lesbian) gets one, you all call for her blood.

Jasun, I suppose Kevin Bourassa Joe Varnell should have waited for the Ontario Provincial Government to give their minister permission to marry them, right? After all, that was the government's rule, right? Right or wrong...

I think this kid is being denied equal access to an educational opportunity, and provided she is willing to serve, they have no business bothering her with demands for reimbursement.

She was playing with fire and she knew it.

Of course the only way to know if this was intended to be a scam would be for the army to say "youll serve anyways" and see what, if anything, she comes up with.

But ianno, if she wanted to make a statement about DADT, did she really need to risk her education and the possiblity of owing 90K$ as a result of her action? Most people wouldn't risk that much for activism, which is why most people calling bullshit on her statements.
