Letting go...

I believe that some people are fragile, and do not view differing opinions as an opportunity to learn, and understand how others think and feel. They see differing opinions as a direct challange or affront (attack) on a personal level, and elevate their response in an attempt to force or bully others into their point of view. Is the glass half empty or is it half full?? Both viewpoints are correct, but depending on a persons past experiences in life, some will see it as half empty ( negative thinkers), while others will see it half full ( positive thinkers). I usually back off of discussions when it appears obvious that the other person is taking things on a personal level, feeling attacked, or affronted. I am not willing to allow another persons insecurity, or overactive defensive posturing to lower the conversation to name calling or personal attacks. It is a disagreement, a difference of opinion, nothing more, nothing less and has no influence on the individual, after all, its only a discussion.

agreed. they are fragile and need all to agree with them. if bullying doesn't work (often it doesn't) then the next step is spreading vicious rumors and trying to make one seem like what they aren't in hopes of turning others against them. it's all very grade school. and very transparent.

You continue to facinate me, Elvin.

Sarah's song 'Building a Mystery' just popped into my head for some
reason...

(Damn, where DID I leave that cd ?)

There are people that take disagreements to extreme levels.
At what point does a disagreement or a small grudge turn really weird?

When people start telling others to "get a life".

I have never understood that as what is the difference between the two people as they are both on JUB posting.

Usually it crops up when differing opinions or criticism are evident and one or both are unable to just read a post without the obsessive reaction of replying.

It is the syndrome of having to have the last word. If a statement of opinion is always criticised then the means of having the final word leaves them relying on insults - which usually happens after the "get a life" posting.

DP...Let's be happy....;)

What have the ideas I posted got to do with not being happy?

I thought I was replying to the question that you placed in front of us.

Sorry but I am confused.
