Lex's 365 Forgotten Retro Songs for 2010

Sorry, let's get back into it. Thanks for picking up the slack, you two. :)

Day 141 - "Sweetest Girl" - Scritti Politti

Day 148 - "Radio Radio" - Elvis Costello

Bonus - the Beastie Boys and Elvis Costello recreate that infamous moment on Saturday Night Live...on Saturday Night Live.

Day 156 - "Mutiny" - Family

A band of what amounted to Prince "leftovers". Jellybean Johnson (Time) on drums, St Paul (Time) on keyboards and vocals, Susannah Melvoin (Wendy's twin sister) on vocals, Eric Leeds (Prince) on sax, and Jerome Benton (Time) on...well, whatever he did. Miko Weaver supposedly played guitar. This is the band that originally cut "Nothing Compares 2 U", but it's not very good in their hands. This one at least works up a decent sweat.

Day 158 - " Our Love is Insane" - Desmond Child and Rogue

Day 149 - "Identity" - X-Ray Spex

I haven't looked into this thread for far too long - and you just made my day with Poly Styrene and her band :D

Of course - I still prefer the (better known) "Oh Bondage, Up Yours"

Actually - there is also a YouTube of her still belting this out at the 2008 'Love Music Hate Racism' concert - but unfortunately her voice doesn't sound as good 30 years on...

While I'm here, I might as well throw in another one, for the sake of it. Probably one of the original gay rock warriors - Tom Robinson:

The above track was from 1977 - the next year the band had a hit with 'Glad to be Gay' - orignially written (per Wiki) for a '76 Gay Pride Parade (& it was banned, at the time, by the BBC!)

Interestingly enough, despite still identifying as gay, he eventually married a girl and had 2 kids - tho' has always continued to campaign for equal rights.
