Libya, Bradley Manning and Human Rights

Because he's gay now the US Military is abusing him? Seriously?

Manning is getting his due in prison. And he deserves the death penalty.

I'm still waiting for the military's response to these accusations. And that's exactly what they are, unsubstantiated accusations.

And lastly, I don't really give a damn about what a foreigner thinks about our legal system. If Americans are fine with his treatment, screw off and mind your business.

And I'm not talking about you Kallipolis. You're not a whiny little bitch like some foreigners on here.
This "Guardian" article clearly states that Manning is receiving extra special punitive treatment.

I quote a paragraph referencing the comments of those contributors who have emphasised the need for a so called suicide watch.

I remind people that this soldier has publicly declared him self, gay. I wonder whether this fact of life has also been factored into his inhumane treatment by the military authorities. We know how much love the United States Army has for queers wearing a military uniform?

quote

Sixteen separate entries made from 27 August until the records stop on 28 January show that Manning was evaluated by prison psychiatrists who found he was not a danger to himself and should be removed from the PoI order.

Dude answer me this honestly and seriously:

Do you really think that being gay isn't make his treatment worse? Do you REALLY think that among those guards there isn't at LEAST ONE that isn't giving a harder time because he is one of us a "faggot"? I am not saying that it would be the sole reason for any bad treatment that he would get, but can you really say that his situation isn't worse because of his out status??

What makes you think he's being persecuted for being gay?

A United States, State Department spokesman P J Crowley said the US treatment of the man accused of leaking secret cables to Wikileaks, is "ridiculous and counter productive and stupid."

I wonder whether any one in the United States, Department of Defence was listening, or even cares?

Obama asked the Pentagon and they said it was appropriate.

He believed them.

What a dupe.

Pretty much everything described is a handling procedure used for high risk security prisoners or prisoners on suicide watch. The one hour a day exercise and solitary confinement is standard practice for a inmate that is either a risk to or in danger from the general population. In this case the later, given the charges if he were exposed to the general population in a military prison, he would be dead in days.

The rest are various steps taken for suicide watch but the it seems like they are laying on everything really thick. If he really is suicidal it could be justified but I think the situation needs an independent look to make sure the administration of the facility is pushing the issue for their own purposes.

Remember he is a military prisoner. Judging from the folks I work with particularly with the army and intel folks, there is no love for this guy. Especially with the all the new troubles that are coming down as a result of his acts that is making folks with security clearances lives harder.

But two of their own psych-docs have said he's not a suicide risk.

It doesn't matter how much "love for this guy" there is -- professionals don't act on that. In a rational world the officers in charge would be stiffly disciplined just for the appearance of impropriety.

He might be receiving extra special punitive treatment, but it's not because he's gay.

Oh I reckon there might be one or two but most of the animosity directed at him is because he violated his oath and endangered his fellow servicemen.

I agree which is why I suggest someone outside that command should look into it because there is at least the appearance that the command there is using the procedures to harass him.

I can assume that your 24/7 presence in Manning's cell is the evidence that you offer us to be able to make this assertion?

What about your 24 hour presence in Manning's cell that allows you to trust whatever Manning's lawyer says? Works both ways. You're taking his lawyer's words as the gospel when she has every reason to lie.

I'm still waiting for the military's response to these accusations. And that's exactly what they are, unsubstantiated accusations.
so why is there no reaction? probably because they would be lying if they would deny it

And lastly, I don't really give a damn about what a foreigner thinks about our legal system. If Americans are fine with his treatment, screw off and mind your business.
well why don't you and your fellow americans screw off then and leave libya alone then? or the rest of the world

This type of flawed thinking is exactly what earns us Americans so much scorn. You've sequestered the "foreigners" without understanding that we are part of an international community.

edit:
Oh and by the way, regarding this: "If Americans are fine with his treatment"
Speak for yourself - cause I am not fine with it.

^^^ so according to your "logic", the US Military will torture people but they won't lie. Lol. Can't make this stuff up guys. Lol.

^^^ Please tell me what I've done to Libya? Or anybody here has done to Libya. We have a vessel nearby but we've done absolutely nothing to Libya in this latest flare up.

Well, please post here your letter to your congressperson denouncing Manning's treatment. Otherwise, talk is cheap.

This is a callow response and addressed the afterthought/edit part of my post.

Perhaps eventually you will gain some perspective and understand that other countries and the US are tied together in their fates. Constantly treating people as the "other," the outsider, the foreigner is not only xenophobic but utterly counter productive.

no need to make this up. see abu ghraib. silence is easier than a lie.

nobody has yet. but many are demanding that your president does something to save some oil for america or so

Again, you foolish said America is torturing Manning but the military can't bring themselves to lie about it? This has to be a joke. An early April Fool's joke.

We buy NO oil from Libya. What are you talking about. And when does a minority overrule a majority of people. Polls are saying Americans want to stay out of Libya.

You're not making stuff up again are you?

Some of the people on this forum make me fucking wretch. "Oh aye, do what you want to him, torture and execute him!" Fuck off. The classified documents he leaked show the blatant war-crimes commited by your country. But then again, right wing americans are quite keen on seeing foriegners being butchered indiscriminately as long as it's in the name of "National security."
