Re: A Lifetime movie worth watching...

That sounds heartbreaking .... I'm not sure that I'll be able to watch it.

Re: A Lifetime movie worth watching...

It got a lot of press here because it was filmed in the Detroit area- Ferndale with the Noir Leather store for sure. I'd want to see it anyway to watch the development of the mother from intolerance to tolerance.

According to The View yesterday, from Sigourney's character's point of view she was doing what she thought best for her son. That makes the (true) story deeper than her being a cold hard bigot.

I hear ya oz............sounds like a great flick but I have a very tender emotional state when it comes to such matters............

Re: A Lifetime movie worth watching...

If it's well made and acted, I'd guess it'll win a slew of Emmies.

Re: A Lifetime movie worth watching...

Prayers for Bobby was an emotional and eye opening book. The true-life story took place in the SF Bay Area (where I live), which made it even more pertinent.

After reading this book (in 1996), I gave it to my mom in hopes it would help further our relationship. To this day, she has not read it and she refuses to watch the film this coming Saturday.

It may be emotionally painful at times, but I urge everybody to watch it (especially those who were raised in a religious home). You'll gain some insight as to what is happening with your parents/siblings and perhaps find a solution that can make your family-life a happier one!

Re: A Lifetime movie worth watching...

I'm making my mother watch it. Bitch don't have a choice. LOL

Re: A Lifetime movie worth watching...

it's only advertised every other commercial

Upon learning of her teen-aged son Bobby's homosexuality, his devoutly religious mother, Mary Griffith, resolves to "heal" him through prayer. His mother's unacceptance, combined with the intolerance of his community, result in Bobby commiting suicide.
After the death of her son, Mary re-examines the beliefs she has been taught by the Church, and becomes a national crusader for gay and lesbian youth.

Re: "Prayers for Bobby" on Lifetime

well that's the lesson, ravenstar. The lesson that she then tries to teach to others who are intolerant. "Do it now before it's too late like my situation".

Re: "Prayers for Bobby" on Lifetime

Re: "Prayers for Bobby" on Lifetime

Thanks for letting us know about it. It looks like it is going to be good.

No problem, I wanted to make sure everyone knew about it.

I know that most of the posts on here are porn related, but we must also address other issues that are related to being gay and how to deal with it in your life...cause lets face it...it's not easy being gay...so every bit of information helps.

Re: "Prayers for Bobby" on Lifetime

Why they gotta play it on Sat night though? This would be a nice Sunday movie. Remember when there was always a Sunday movie on? I miss that. Anyone know when else during the week it will get played? You know they are gonna play it at least 5 times.

Re: "Prayers for Bobby" on Lifetime

It'll play again on Sunday at 8PM EST

"Prayers for Bobby" Saturday Evening Lifetime T.V.

From the Los Angeles Times

TELEVISION

'Prayers for Bobby' profiles the making of a gay activist

Lifetime airs the story of Mary Griffith, who spurned religious ideals to champion gay causes after her son's suicide.

Gary Goldstein

January 24, 2009

Good things come to those who wait . . . and wait . . . and wait.

Just ask David Permut, Daniel Sladek and Chris Taaffe, who have jointly struggled for nearly 12 years to bring the emotionally charged family drama "Prayers for Bobby" to television. The result, on which the trio shares executive producer credit (along with Stanley M. Brooks), premieres at 9 tonight on Lifetime.

The project's long journey began in 1996 when Taaffe, then an actor also working in TV production, happened upon the Leroy Aarons' book on which the TV movie is based at a West Hollywood bookstore. He was immediately drawn into the chronicle of a suburban California mother's transformation from religious zealot and homophobe to prominent gay activist after the suicide of her 20-year-old gay son, Bobby.

Re: trailer for movie

Here is the trailer for movie .I have waited a long time to see this movie. It looks like a real tear-jerker (I have a box of Kleenix on the table ready). Check out the You Tube message board. As usual, the gay hating "bible thumpers" are out in full force. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBVcTCpKx3g[/ame]
