Nice topic and please go on with giving more examples. The reply of pat grimshaw is a common reply of alot of christians. 'This part of the bible' / 'this quote somewhere in the bible' is outdated (etc.).

So that's true for all items in the bible? Or only for a selective part of the bible? Which bible? Which version? Which parts? And who decides which parts of the bible are outdated? You? I? Or pat grimshaw? Why him? Are atheïsts allowed to debate about this kind of items?

As far as Christians and the OLD TESTAMENT (before Christ), some of these antigay screamers even QUOTE that it comes from Leviticus, so they're not even TRYING to hide that they're quoting from the Old Testament.

The "Christians" (in quotes because hate is a very un-Christian trait) who throw around the Leviticus quote about "laying with mankind" are also the ones who tend to vote for anti-gay ballot measures. So, yes, they are directly affecting our own lives. They are actively trying to deny us rights.

It's funny, most of these people never seem to have an answer when OTHER quotes from Leviticus are given back to them as examples of how ridiculous it is, such as not eating shellfish or getting a haircut. I remember seeing a picture of a guy getting Leviticus 18:22 tattooed on his arm because homosexuality is such an abomination...apparently forgetting that Leviticus states that getting a tattoo is also an abomination.

Ergh, it's times like this I wish I remembered verses and chapters better.

I believe it is in the book of John, if not John then Mark, but there is a story of a man who approaches Jesus and basically asks about becoming one of his followers. At first, Jesus tells him that he should give up all his possessions and live a humble life. Jesus tells the man that he does not HAVE to physically follow him, as to do so would be an act of hypocrisy and would be nothing more than a vanity project for the man's own ego.

Three sentences later, Jesus seems to have forgotten what he told the man and instead insists that he should give away his good and PHYSICALLY follow Jesus wherever he goes.

And it's little passages like that that make you question the whole book.
