Well - it is only a few days to go, the athletes are moving in, the security arrangements and some of the organisation (bus drivers getting lost and taking 3-4 hours rather than 45mins to deliver athletes to the village) seems to be rather in disarray #-owhich I wouldn't have expected.

Nevertheless, hopefully once games themselves take centre stage, things will come together. I doubt the Aussies will be quite a strong as some recent games (especially Sydney - great memories!) but I shall be following as much as I can - and will no doubt have the customary 'Olympic rings under my eyes'.

Who else will be watching - and what sports? I try to see as much as I can of the swimming, track & field, marathons & triathlon in particular. Wonder if we will also get good coverage of the Paralympics? Some of those people are just utterly amazing - swimming, track, basketball and 'murderball' being highlights for me.

Who else? What will you be watching? Athletes to watch out for?

Please share :)

I shall be watching. Saw the Olympic flame today, the atmosphere was electric. I shall be at the park for Basketball and Athletics. The Olympic park is just a short bus ride from home. London is looking great. And the weather forecast is hot!

Are you getting any extra Olympic TV channels downunder? From Monday in the UK we will be getting 24 Olympic TV channels from the BBC.

Well, I'm glad to see we DO have some non Americans looking in to talk about things other than baseball and US football. :p

Just had a look at next weeks TV guide. Channel 9 has the rights to the games here - and the first day they show the opening ceremony from 5.30am to 9.30am our time (repeat at 2pm - usual overkill ).

I have to admit that opening ceremonies don't interest me that much, apart from the parade of athletes. The first day of competition is covered from 6.30pm through till the next morning. Not sure how much will be live and how much will be replayed given the 9hr time difference - but it looks as if we ought to see plenty. :D

How are feelings in the UK about the games now? We keep seeing coverage here of lack of security/Army being brought in, people whinging about the disruption, the London Eye being tuned to positive/negative tweets (and seemingly spending more time in negative colour than positive) and that idiot Boris Johnston alternately making inane comments about athletes buses getting lost = sightseeing and going on a rant against the Brits failing to embrace the occasion. Is it really that bad?

I know when they were held in Sydney (and I was fortunate enough to be there for a lot of the athletics, as well as marathons/triathlons/road cycling) there were initially concerns abut the transport capabilities - but it all went remarkably smoothly, the volunteers were great, most people I connected with seemed very enthusiastic - and, of course, we even got the 'best ever' tag at at the end, which was the icing on the cake.

Anyway, being a sports nut - needless to say I shall be watching as much as I can. ;)

Hi TriBi, I live in the main Host Borough, and feelings here are that most people are looking forward to the games, and the kids are having an extra long summer holiday this year, so their happy. The Olympic flame passed close to my home yesterday and the streets were packed, we have had a weekend of festivals in London. Security is always going to be an issue, but security is high in London and at the Olympic events. Road journeys have been getting difficult and more changes are to take effect this week. But the problem in London is that one minor road incident can cause major problems. None the less I am looking forward to being at the Olympic park.

And we are also celebrating a Brit winning the Tour de France.

A contrary view for you TriBi. I easily avoided seeing the Olympic Flame in York (where I live) and Leeds (where I work) and will positively avoid watching any of it on TV. I certainly won't be going anywhere near London for the next couple of months. I've been sick of all the hype about the bloody Olympics and the extravagant amounts of money being spent (wasted) on it for several years already. I'll be happy when it's all over, safe in the knowledge that it won't be held again in the UK in my lifetime.

Oh an Australian news channel covering the negative aspects of the games in Britain - now theres a surprise.

There is excitement in the air. The weather turning hot and sunny has something to do with it but also the fact that everything is beginning to start. People are beginning to decide which games they are going to see. I have been invited to three Olympic parties and deep down is a certainty that we do big events rather well ie jubilee, football tournaments.

There will be glitches. There is with every games but I think the momentum and drama of the games will kick in. Also London is a great place for community. People have been getting out the flags and cheering on the flamerunners. Londoners will line the streets as they do normally for the marathon etc.

it should be a great games.

By far the most negative reporting I have read has all been from the UK, so it is not surprising that other countries would pick up on it; after all, that is all that is considered news these days.

e!

I have been thinking that for a while. I wonder if our press knows how destructive it is. Its been trying to create a crisis over buses going in the wrong direction. Our press loves hysteria.

But hopefully, things will improve once the games begin.

Excitement is certainly in the air. Tonight is the second rehearsal of the opening ceremony. Living close to the stadium I have a flavour of it. Festival starts here early morning on Friday. This time next week I shall be in the Olympic Park.

Great Britains World Olympics show.

Ok you soccer jocks out there. I've been watching soccer all day and am enjoying it, altho I do not know the rules. So, I'm asking kindly. When Mexico played and then Brazil played the guys that made the score would stick his thumb in his mouth.
Now I ask you kindly, why?

Best wishes London.
Good luck topping or even coming close to the Beijing opening ceremonies. That was the most awesome event I've ever seen, anywhere, for any occasion. Period. Mind fucking blowing.

I'll be watching tomorrow evening in big screen HD and surround sound. Michael Phelps. Yum.

Comcast has given us two new Olympics only HD channels in addition to NBCHD, MSNBCHD, CNBCHD coverage and the On Demand stuff.

Come on Bob Costas, over glorify this billion dollar track meet in a way only you can do.

The excitement is growing here. It all seems very surreal, that the Olympics are happening just a short distance from my home. I was in the supermarket earlier today and met a group of guys from the Swiss team, doing there own shopping.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

RAF Red Arrows perform flypast at 20:12 over stadium tonight.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

Oh yes, I'm so excited too!!! I have such admiration for all the athletes, olympic, para and special. They truly are incredible people. GO EARTH!! Yay!!!

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

^^ Has meant that the daily commute has been bad. But to have the Olympics happening close to my home, I can put up with a bit of disruption. It's a once in a life time event here. RAF Red Arrows flew over the stadium at 20:12, it was a great site. Two weeks of partying!

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

I watched the Men's Soccer game on MSNBC yesterday..Gabon VS Switzerland...It was intense..The Gabon players were Exotic looking and I love the Rainbow of hair-colors the players sported...

Every Country has Women participating for the FIRST time EVER....

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

GO CANADA!!! I'm totally stoked. not a huge sports fan, but the Olympics are always awesome. Love em.

I'm watching the pre-show right now... I do find it kind of funny that one of the broadcasters mentioned the heightened security, and referenced it by saying the Olympics have "become an extension of war"... when really they always have been lol.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

I'm gonna record the 5hr opening ceremony tonight so I can watch it sometime on Saturday or Sunday...Parts of the Ceremony is top secret...

Which world famous brit singer(s) will close the event tonight? Sir Elton, Paul McCartney, Joss Stone, Sade, Adel?

I'd like to see Seal perform....PLEASE, please, PLEASE no Tom Jones...

American here. I am anxiously awaiting the OC tonight. I am a huge Olympics fan and I enjoy watching all the sports. I went to the winter games in Salt Lake and it was amazing, something about it makes it more exciting than other sporting events.
