London Olympics 2012

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

NBC sucks, cant believe the opening ceremony is happening now but we cannot watch it until 7.30PM tonight. Not only do we have to wait but there will be so many commercials and filler, camera will go back and forth between a stupid talking head and the stadium.

When I watched the Diamond Jubilee on NBC, half of it was not even shown, I hate NBC

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

Fantastic so far.

I found a stream without commercials and without the us or canadian broadcasters blabbing through out.

love the internet.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

Big whoop dee do...who wants to see a bunch of half naked, sweaty, muscle men clambering about in tight fitting spandex showing off their junk-lumps for the world to see?

I got a haircut this afterlunch but ya don't see me making a thread about it. Wait, come to think about it, I probably will. It's kind of a fauxhawk slash ear-lowering. I tipped the guy a fiver(American)...

Here's a link of some of the opening ceremony.

The rest of the world can watch it live -- we in the USA are not allowed to, NBC says it too complicated to show live. So we have to wait until 6:30 and watch an edited version.

Hopefully, NBC will allow us to watch something more than just American participants this time.

Populous, the Kansas City, Missouri architectural firm behind most of the new sports stadiums in the world has designed the Olympic Stadium, the new Wimbledon, and other stadiums for the London games -- some are temporary and will be dismantled after the games.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

Bell Canada is Monopolizing the market right now :(

They own the broadcaster that is airing the olympics in Canada (CTV) and have decided not to broadcast it Over The Air Meaning you need Cable TV to see it.

Thankfully there is another station airing it. I'm watching it in Mandarin right now xD

Then you should be a good Canadian and get bell fibe.

I stay away from rogers and bell because their service sucks.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

I loved the James Bond/Queen. Mr Bean and music of the 60,70,80,90,00's bits. One of the best Olympic shows in years...

fuck the olympics. what about them HOlympics?

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

Now I know they did the sex pistols..........but damn would it not be amazing if they did the sex pistols version of God Save the Queen.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

FibeTV Is only available in Toronto and Montreal (I used to work for Bell TV) Outside of those cities it's satellite only. FibeTV is over rated its usually FTTN (Fiber to the Node) then regular RG-6 cable to your house. As well it shares your internet speed so if you have Fibe 25 internet you'll see speed loss everytime you watch tv. Rogers Nextbox2.0 is the same =\

I would never ever get rogers or bell.

my internet provider is a reseller of rogers and I found it sad someone from rogers came and I had to pay them 60 dollars to attach the modem which I bought. Then he had the nerve to criticise me for going to someone that provided me with superior service and faster internet.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

What an opening! The Olympic Torch is just beautiful. To all those who say screw the olympics know this.

For exactly two weeks every four years a cease fire is called for all wars. For two weeks Athletes from 204 nations, friend and foe come together for the chance to chase their dreams. To seek Olympic Gold, Silver and Bronze, to make their nation and familes proud and to touch the lives of countless millions around the world.

The Olympics have brought the world together in times of need. From 1948 in London, to 2012 in London. The Olympics have and will always be a testament to the saying "follow your dreams".

Good luck to all our Olympians. And Thank-you again to England for hosting the games for us.

I doubt Syria, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan got the memo. It doesn't unite the world for two weeks. It sucks money out of some poor city and it's tax payers and increases teh bottom line of sponsors, contractors. Sure, some people get some shiny coin validating a life's work, but out of the few who medal, think of all who get shafted.

Short of half-naked boys on the telly, I think the olympics is a load of bollocks. I'll save my curling jokes for the winter olympics.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

The opening ceremony was fucking amazing (bar the first 20 mins or so, and the snorefest that was introducing all 29729749399274729 nations).

The lighting. Amazing.

The scene with the Queen. Awesome beyond words. I was expecting an actress when they were in Buckingham Palace, not Old Queenie herself

The whole 60s/70s/80s/90s/00s thing was very well done. Very well orchestrated yet still very current (first Olympics opening ceremony to include actual Facebook status updates as part of the story!!).

The couldron at the end looked immense, much worth the wait!

Now let us all sit back for 2 weeks and watch this bunch of half naked hotties perform for us in front of our very eyes.

Awesome.

Does NBC have some sort of monopoly on the Olympics in the U.S.? If so, How? Why? That's just dumb.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

I wasn't planning on watching the Olympic event. I've been a bit cynical of the UK recently, and I guess the only media I've encountered has been regarding various screw-ups, so I was expecting the UK to embarrass itself in front of the world.

But my god, I'm glad I watched that opening ceremony! It was so powerful, so moving - the deaf percussionist, the booming steel hammers, the oppressive blackened towers rising up from the earth, the strip of gold flowing, hardening, borne aloft into the air and shining in the night... I felt so inspired. God save our nation.

So far -- NBC has made the show a advertisement fest for their new fall line-up. Guess we know what's ahead the next 2-1/2 weeks.

Mr. Bean so far had the biggest time slot -- what about Benny Hill?

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

Canadian host Brian Williams slammed it to the IOC when Israel entered the stadium:

"As Israel prepares to enter, my position is well known. It is one that I have taken at previous Olympics. It is wrong that the IOC refuses to have a minute's silence for Israeli athletes that were slaughtered in Munich."

Williams, of course, was referring to the murder of 11 Israeli athletes during the 1972 Olympics.

"It is a much bigger issue this year, as it's the 40th anniversary of Munich. Members of the Canadian government, yesterday, our Governor General, all calling for a moment's silence. Dr Rogge (Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC) says the ceremony is not the place to remember a tragic event, but, uh, it's tragic, however, it's one of the most significant and world changing events in Olympic history. It absolutely should have been done here. The IOC worries about politics. This event is political by its very nature."
