Chapter 11
​


Our vacation was off to a great start. After our afternoon of fun we went for a walk along the beach and then a swim in the pool at the motel. As we had a lunch out on our way there I cooked for us that night. Joel offered to help and I set him up to chop the tomatoes and lettuce for the tacos I was making. Dinner was soon ready and we sat on the balcony eating while watching the waves as the sun went down. It had been a great day.

The next morning we slept in and only got up when we got too hungry to stay in bed. It was a wonderfully sunny day and we decided to go down to the motel’s pool for a swim after breakfast. For such a small motel it was a decent sized pool and we had fun swimming and splashing each other. There wasn’t many people around so we went in the spa for a bit after we finished swimming. The last person in the area left so we thought it would be the perfect time to make out for a bit in the spa without being bothered. We kissed for a while till one of us pulled away. Then we dried off and went back to our room.

The next few days were idyllic. We did not do much, mainly we relaxed in our room or had sex but it was just nice to be somewhere different for a change. I thought I knew everything about Joel but this time away taught me even more about him that I didn't know. For instance he got on well with his mother but his Dad had been a bit distant when he came out to them and had only just recently come around to the fact that his son was gay and accepted it. On our last night I spontaneously told Joel that I loved him. He was a bit surprised but soon after said that he loved me too. It felt good to say that to each other and it solidified how stable our relationship was.

I did not want our vacation to end but all to soon we were on our way back home. The final semester of University had arrived and I was ready to do the best I could and hopefully graduate with decent grades. We decided to take a longer vacation at the end of University and I could not wait for that.

Sure enough, our final semester started and we both were soon busy with study and work. We found time to see each other whenever we could. Simon and Mark could see how deeply committed we now were to each other so gave us more space for it just to be the two of us. We still saw them but it was less often. It was nice to have such understanding friends.

Joel also became my study partner. We read over each others work whenever one of us felt we had finished an assignment and pointed out errors and gave constructive criticism. This was helpful and as a result my grades started improving even more. University was feeling less difficult then it had been in the past when I had less focus. Having Joel around had improved my life immeasurably. I felt so lucky to have him.

One night I was asleep when my phone started to ring at about midnight. I picked it up as soon as I realised what was going on. It was Joel, his mother had had a massive stroke and he was leaving immediately to go and see her. I said I was coming too and before he could protest I hung up, threw together some clothes in a small bag and was on my way to his house.

I love this story. I also love how when I give the characters voices I don't need to put on an accent cause I just give them voices that I'm familiar with.
 
Chapter 12​

Soon I was on my way and arriving at Joel’s place. As soon as I got there I gave him a big hug. We hopped into his car and were on our way to the hospital. The drive was going to take a few hours so I put some music on low and we just talked. Joel was in shock and I tried to distract him in whatever ways that I could. I was driving because I didn’t want him to have to worry about that. I asked if anything like this had happened with his mother before. He said it hadn’t and as far as he knew she was in perfect health.

As the scenery sped by and the sun started to rise we both started to calm down a bit. I held Joel’s hand when I could spare one from driving and we stopped for breakfast near the end of our journey. Both of us had pancakes and ate quickly, wanting to get to the hospital and see what was going on. Joel cried a bit and I comforted him. He didn’t want to lose his Mum and I hoped that he wouldn’t. We hit the road and drove for about another hour before we arrived at the hospital.

When we got there we rushed inside and Joel enquired about his mother. The staff told us where she was and we raced to her room. Joel’s Dad Ron was waiting in the hallway. I was introduced to him and he gave both of us a hug. He thanked me for driving Joel and we sat down to talk.

Ron told us that Joel’s Mum Julia was stable but it would be a long road to recovery ahead. The doctors had told him that normal function of her whole body might take a while. Also, that her speech might be a bit impaired. Joel was just happy that she was alive. I asked them if they wanted to be alone to talk and Ron waved me off saying that he knew how close Joel and I were and there would be no secrets between all of us. He talked for a while longer, reassuring us that for the moment Julia was ok. I sat down again and grabbed Joel’s hand. Before long all talking stopped and we both fell asleep right there, exhausted from our journey and eventful night.

A few hours later we both woke up and found that Ron had gone into Julia’s room. We joined him and found that Joel’s Mum was still unconscious. No one really knew when she would wake up but she was in no danger for the moment. Joel and I stayed for a while longer but when there were no signs of his mother waking up anytime soon we said goodbye to Ron for now and went to find a place to stay. After trying a few motels with no luck we found one quite close to the hospital that had some vacancies. Ron had said we could stay at their house but I felt I had intruded enough and wanted to give him his space.

The motel was nice and as both of us had only had a bit of sleep in uncomfortable hospital chairs we both decided to get some more rest. Ron would phone us if there was any news about Julia’s condition and we fell asleep bundled up together.

Chapter 13​

Joel and I awoke a few hours later, well rested but still a bit anxious. The next few days of waiting were very trying but finally Ron called us early one morning to say that Julia had woken up. Joel was extremely relived as was I and we immediately went to the hospital.

As soon as we got there we went to see Julia and Joel gave her a huge hug. She talked to us for a while, her speech was a bit funny but we could understand her. The doctor then came in and said he wanted to speak to Ron, Joel and I so we left Julia to rest and went outside into the corridor. Then the doctor told us that Julia had been very lucky, often people don’t make it or are severely paralysed but Julia was luckily not going to have to face either of those things. She was however going to have to do some rehab over the next few months to get her movement back to normal.

Once the doctor had gone we all sat down and talked about what we had just been told. Joel was telling Ron that he wanted to stay here for the next few months to help his Mum but Ron said it was important that we finish University. It took some convincing but Joel finally agreed on the condition that we go to visit his Mum as often as we could. I started to say that she barely knew me so maybe me visiting her would not be the best idea. Joel said that while Julia did not know me well he had told her how much we cared for each other and that he would be grateful if I would come with him on the visits for support and to get to know his parents better. I could see how much he wanted this and although I still felt like I was intruding I agreed. Joel gave me a big kiss and Ron hugged me. It had been a long few days but I was glad I could be there to support Joel and his family in their time of crisis.

Shortly after that we talked to his Mum and told her our plan. She agreed that we should keep going to University but she was glad we would visit her often. Her face lit up in a smile when I took Joel’s hand and once we said our goodbyes to her and Ron we left the hospital.

Soon we were back at our motel. We packed our things and checked out. It was time to go back home. After we had left the motel I said that I thought it was a good idea to stop for breakfast. Joel agreed and we found a diner on our route back home and stopped. It was nice to see that Joel had his appetite back as he mowed through his breakfast fast. While he had not said it I knew that the last few days had been scary for him. Once we were both finished we paid our check and were on our way.

Our car ride home was pretty uneventful. Joel told me how thankful he was to me for supporting him the last few days. I gave his hand a squeeze and said that it was my pleasure. I asked Joel if he wanted to stay alone at his place or spend the night with me. He chose the later and we drove straight to my place.

It was late afternoon by the time we got to my place and I made the both of us some dinner. We settled on the couch to watch a movie after we both had eaten. I was so engrossed in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood that I didn’t notice that Joel had fallen asleep right there on the couch. I turned off the movie and carried him to bed. Once I had locked the house and brushed my teeth I settled in beside him and fell asleep.

Sorry I'm a little behind with this reply. I hope others will chime in. I think this is a sweet love story with 2 charming characters. :)
 
A small critique:

I find that using weak verbs and adverbs make a story less interesting. Also, try to avoid using "get" and "got" as much as possible. Love your work and hope you keep this story going for a long time to come and maybe even get it published. I would so buy it if you did.

Chapter 14​

Many weeks passed and Joel’s mother was showing many signs of improvement so the rehab was working. For the first week or two she struggled but through sheer determination she eventually started to see encouraging signs. It was unfortunate that this happened to Joel’s mum but it was nice to spend more time with him.

We were well and truly finished with our holiday and school was challenging yet still fun at the same time. One day we were having lunch on campus and Joel told me he had something special to tell me. I stopped eating and looked at him straight in the eyes.

“I love you!” he said.

I said “I love you too!”

We both smiled and got up from, where we were sitting for a big hug and a kiss. I was so glad that Joel was in my life and that aside from his Mom’s medical situation things were going so well for us. Once we were finished lunch we walked to our next class holding hands. I told Joel he was going to get so lucky tonight. He grinned and slapped me on the ass.

It was hard to concentrate on class that day but I managed and soon enough we were headed back to my place for dinner. With Joel helping I cooked us a delicious Lasagne. Once it was in the oven we sat down and relaxed on the couch and watched the news. We decided to leave watching a movie until we started to eat.

The smell of the lasagne was mouth watering and as usual after a long day at University I could not wait to eat. After a bit over half an hour dinner was ready and after getting it out of the oven and letting it cool for a few minutes we dug straight in. While eating we decided to watch Speed as we both had not seen it in a long time. It was great as usual and after we finished our dinner we curled up together and watched it to the end.

Once the movie was over Joel reached into my pants and started jacking me off. I reached into his pants so I could do the same to him. Both of us got huge boners pretty fast and we decided to shift our activities to the bedroom. We were both so excited and in the mood after our declarations that day that our clothes were off very fast and we were soon making out while rubbing our hard dicks together.
