Nick, I don't think you have any standards any more except "what Nick wants". You expect Obama to compromise his character, and you come down on others for sticking to theirs. There is no way under the sun that someone who said "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman" can say anything that will sound like "Go vote for gay marriage". Do you really expect someone who thinks what you're doing is wrong to support you in it?

Compromise his character ??

:rotflmao:

President Obama's answer to a 1996 Outlines newspaper question on marriage was: "I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages."

Which character, which principled position, would he be compromising?

Name any other elected official who went from supporting same sex marriage and declaring he/she would fight efforts to prohibit them to being opposed to same sex marriage.

Barack Obama has no character, certainly not where gay rights or same sex marriage are concerned.

And anybody who is a fierce advocate of gay rights and also of civil rights and opposed to discrimination, would have no problem supporting No on 1. He needn't have said a word about same sex marriage, for or against, he could have said it's outrageous that the civil rights of a minority are being determined by a majority vote, that issues of civil rights and discriminiation should be decided by the courts and legislation: vote No On 1 and don't allow oppression of a minority by tyranny of the majority.

But this nonsense, that Obama would have been compromising his character by issuing a strong statement in support of No On 1, goes along perfectly with what Elvin and so many other gays have been saying this past year. And that's the reason Obama isn't going to do squat for us. It's not Republican's fault, it's not religious bigot's fault, it's not old people's fault, its the fault of liar Obama and the gays who make excuses for him. Our opponents never promised to stop opposing us and they're not going to; the only way to win these battles is for our side to win, and we can't win if gays are devoted to defending Obama who promised to be our fierce advocate and won't do it.

This is what happens when your devotion is to a personality rather than a cause.

LMFAO, your arguments keep getting more and more absurd.

"Yeah, it's not the bigots' fault, they can't help being that way."

What a crock of shit.

That's exactly who's fault it is.

Your effort to blame those who support gay rights for the bigots' intolerance is quite revolting.

Of course that's not what I said.

We have a President of the United States who claimed to be our fierce advocate and he hasn't helped. We have supporters who don't vote. And there are Democrats who vote against us. That's three areas we could concentrate our energy and resources where it might actually help. But you guys would rather bitch at people whose minds and votes we'll never change.

I wouldn't have voted no on 1, because it would only change which minorities are being persecuted, by shifting one group from the persecuted column to the persecutor column. "Gay marriage" laws are still persecutory, because they're about special interests, not about equal rights.

So he could have said "it's outrageous that the civil rights of a minority are being determined by a majority vote"... and said that no matter which way someone voted, it would be a vote for persecution, so the best thing would be to not vote at all.

Yeah, blame it all on Obama.

Why not blame it on the people who said they were going to go to the polls and vote no but didn't show?

As for that fierce advocate bit, all you're doing (again) is criticizing him because he isn't doing what you want.

This is what happens when your devotion is to a personality rather than a cause.

And just what personality is he devoted to?

You're evidently devoted to your own, since the basis of your relentless persecution of Obama is that he won't do things the way you want him to. But who's he devoted to?

Man, you are not making ANY sense whatsoever. Still Obama's fault? EH?
But you know, if you are going to lie and make up crap, at least do some homework or quote where I have said ANYTHING remotely close to what you are saying.
I have NEVER been happy with Obama on gay rights. And I have written, called and even stopped at his house at 1600 and voiced my displeasure.
Go find me a quote where I have EVER said or taken the position that you just stated above. I'll wait.

I used to have respect for your posts and opinions. I can't say that any longer. [-X

I'm getting there.

Of course that's not what I said.

But you said it was all Obama's fault.
Though I suppose it could be all his, all the people's who didn't show up and vote, as well as the idiots who believed lies and voted the other way -- responsibility is not a game of sums.

BTW, who's "you guys"?
