Attention Malaysia Airlines 777 missing between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing; 239 on board

It's an interesting aspect of idolatry toward government that people think it should be all-knowing, and hand them knowledge of every little detail. Even a handful of generations ago, people understood that there are things we'll just never find out, including how and where people die, and accepted that and moved on.

A mere handful of generations ago there were far more dictatorships that demanded their people accept their near-godhood, omnipotence, and omniscience. So it would seem that even tough you are half right you are also half wrong.....

Meanwhile 10000 times that number have died in Africa due to famine.

FACT.

^It is a first step, recovering said "black box" will be problematic, not only because of the depth but the battery life.

At least now that the search is for a pinger the search can continue at night, which increases the actual search time dramatically.

This daylight search from ships and with planes only on station for a few hours wasn't going anywhere.

CNN is still running this story non stop 24 hrs a day "Breaking News". Who watches this shit?????????
Hours of nothing and nothing hardly at all on the huge devastating oil spill in Texas City once again coating the beaches with oil and dead wildlife. Maybe Kirby Marine is paying CNN to focus on the non breaking news.

Yes i did Matt, though i am sure she was found, i mean i saw that particular episode of Star Trek Voyager.....;)

We have learned much in the investigation already. Searching for more clues will suffer diminishing returns. The most important life saving measures that must be taken we already know. It's clear that certain degrees of freedoms need to be taken away from pilots, e.g. smart computers could thwart deranged pilots from flying to Antarctica, shutting off communications, etc.

Not putting a price on closure, I suppose it is philosophical. It isn't my call to make. I am not saying the mystery is not captivating, but I don't see why any further searches are rationally justified other than the ping detected by the Chinese vessel.

When I want to chafe at the outrageous expense and risks incurred for the knowledge of how 239 lives were lost, I remind myself of the staggering wastes made every day by every government involved in the search for far more banal purposes.

I imagine the amount of wasted paper, not printed and stored, merely discarded, by the U.S. government, dwarfs the search costs.

Matt, you work in or near the beltway. Can I get an amen?

Worse situations make a bad situation okay :)

Get an amen? Tax dollars are putting luxury food on our tables

I suppose the search will never truly be over, just as the search for Amelia Earhart is not.

One thing is for certain. The battery on the data recorders is dying. The ships have days to find it, or at least confirm the signal, or it may be lost forever.

Unless they were jettisoned before the plane sank and are floating somewhere

Edit: Nevermind the words have the same origin so that wasn't original on my part.

They might never find bodies on the ocean floor. It's jet black down there.

You know, it's not too late to plant a seed on the web and create a conspiracy theory that the government (pick one) deposited two black boxes over in this area of the Indian Ocean while everyone was looking elsewhere, just to get this thing over with.

Didn't we go over this? Okay some of them actually are boxes. Another pet peeve.

What would happen if a foreign navy found the decoy... That would go over well.

A navy foreign to the one (pick one) that planted the decoy.

I don't sense incompetence. I sense secrecy. No country wants its military capabilities known.
