Male model charged with murder of gay activist

this isn't a case of true love between a fashionable silver fox and some sweet young stud.

This is a creepy-lookin old guy and his young psychotic model/traveling companion. It is sounding like the victim may have a history of using money, position and promise of fame to get what he wants out of attractive young men - gay or straight. That certainly doesn't mean he deserved to be beaten, tortured and killed or had it coming, just that it was his sexual manipulation of a young, strong and apparently unstable man that got him killed. Not a judgement, just a fact. There is nothing wrong with older/younger relationships... this problem was about something else... transactional relationships are a minefield.

This is HUGE in Portugal right now. Everyone's talking about it. Carlos was very famous here.

Quite frankly, I think Carlos got involved with someone who was heavily confused regarding his sexuality...occasionally bouncing back to that denial stage that, unfortunately, many bisexual and gay man go through (some get stuck in it though).

Renato said he wanted to get Carlos cleansed from the "virus", to exorcize the homossexuality out of him.
Renato's also said "I thought I was gay. But I'm not anymore". This SCREAMS denial!

I don't think we'll ever know the whole truth. There's always 3 sides of every story...one's side, someone else's side and somewhere in between. Well, there's only one side of the story we can hear.

Also, let's quit the "oh the dirty old man went after the poor guy" thing, shall we? The dude was 21 fucking years old! He knew what he was getting himself into. He also wanted a boost in his modelling career and Carlos had LOTS of connections in fashion, politics, arts...you name it.



Renato's family and friends are obviously in shock and in denial themselves, which is normal for someone in their position of course.
Their claims that Renato was heterosexual because he had lots of girlfriends in the past and always flirting with them are laughable...as if that proves one's sexual orientation in one way or another.
They're also in disbelief that he could ever do such a thing...he was said to be the perfect boy, very kind, loved by everyone...well, such is the case with many serial killers and sociopaths...they project the image of the perfect citizen almost...it's the perfect mask.
But I completely understand their disbelief and shock...I would probably say the same thing if my brother or my best friend had done something similar.
 
They've been dating for 3 months. He would go to Lisbon to be with Carlos and lie to his family and friends saying he was going to some auditions and stuff like that. He would travel with Carlos to several places and tell them he was going to look for job opportunities as a model.

There are text messages from Renato saying stuff such as "I love you" among other things.



One thing that is strange...you may believe it or not but Carlos has said for years now that he had a feeling he would not die from natural causes but rather from being murdered and that he would like to die in New York.
A friend of his said Carlos told him in December "I don't know why but I've got a feeling my time is coming...soon".


Another thing, he wrote an autobiography in which he fully admits liking younger guys, in their 20s and 30s...he was completely out, for years now, and he never kept a secret regarding his preference for younger guys. It was well known.
The guys are in their 20s and 30s so spare me the "oh poor them" bullshit. They knew very well what they were doing.
 
The old man was clearly some sort of sicko. Did he deserve to have what happened to him? I don't know. If he was grooming young men, barely men, 20 is quite young and still impressionable... There was possibly a lot more going on then we know about. And what if the family's claims of the young man's heterosexuality is true? How long do you think a straight man can allow himself to be molested before he snaps?

Pedos never heal. They never get over their mental disorder.

I, personally, don't understand the attraction either but it's not up to me to understand, like or dislike. It's up to them. And there's lots of really young guys, around 16-18 even and younger, who are attracted to much older guys.

I would NEVER date someone who's old enough to be my father, let alone my grandfather. But that's ME. Tastes vary from one person to another. The guy was 21yo, he was NOT a fucking child by any means. He knew what he was getting himself into. He was, if anything, greedy and thirsty for a career and fame...did it cloud his judgement? Perhaps but that can happen to everyone, in any age, at any stage in their lives.

Some people also say men dating men is fucking weird and creepy, ya know?



How can we demand acceptance and tolerance towards diversity and difference when we, in the gay community, can't seem to do it ourselves?

You don't have to like nor agree with it...as long as people are happy and not hurting anyone, respect their choices and just...LIVE AND LET LIVE!
 
Lets just cut to the chase, M'kay? If the older man didnt have money. I doubt the younger guy would have been with him. Money buys alot of things in life. Including a younger mate.

You are right, as for ugliness, the wannabe model (he wasn't even that) was just as ugly, only less rotten.
If I had the habit of laughing I would laugh so hard when those horse-faced, bony spiky twinks on porn sites or escort listings are presented as youthful, desirable sex objects...

You are right - a thirty year old could show a predatory disposition regarding a forty year old. What I don;t understand then, is that you don't extend that logic to consider how it is that you missed that the younger man in this case MURDERED the older man, and yet the word 'predatory' is referenced to the older man, not the killer, who is clearly predatory by definition.

This is sad on all levels. A hookup gone horribly wrong with a closeted rentboy who went crazy for some reason.

I don't know if this was premeditated or something went terribly wrong during this session but for now it looks like a hookup gone wrong, even though the news said they were "dating".

It was NOT a hookup. They WERE, in fact, dating for about 3 months.
Carlos' friends (journalists, politicians, jet set, etc) have met Renato in different occasions. One of them went to their place with them and reported that they didn't want to go with him for a walk 'cause they were tired. They then went to the bedroom, according to them, to take a nap.
