Marco Rubio’s compelling family story embellishes facts, documents show

If his parents told him the story of leaving Cuba, AND no one ever told him otherwise, Was he embellishing or lying?
If anyone lied it was his parents, Rubio is only guilty of believing the stories.
My parents told me that every Spring, a rodent had visited our house, leaving me with jelly beans and chocolate bunnies.

Oddly, in the same interviews in which Rubio claimed his parents came over "in 1959," he sometimes also added "when my brother was six."

Rubio's brother was born in 1950.

Either Rubio doesn't know how old is his brother, or he can't do simple math.

More discrepancies emerge in Marco Rubio’s story of family history

He doth protest too much.

Try it, you'll like it! :D

Hopefully someday we'll know more about Obama's past since we basically don't know much about him --- other than what he wanted us to know.

Vetting of political candidates is good.

Springer, this thread is about Marco Rubio. Stop your derailing.

You know what I'm talking about. In virtually every thread Springer posts in he twists the topic to Obama / Democrat bashing. And he gets away with it.

In the four posts he made in this thread two of them have been about the President and none of them about Rubio.

The introduction of the topic appears to include discussion of Obama, as he is also mentioned in the opening post.

Actually, I was mocking derailers. The real derailers are a form of self-parody. *|*

Well I do know of some not quite true stories my parents told me and I believed for 40 years.
Grandma also - lol She slipped up talking about when she got married, Mom said she couldn't have because she was born 2 months later. !oops!
Just saying - Growing up you believe what you are told- UNTIL you find out differently.

BINGO! :=D:

The racist teabaggers will support the American military when it pleases them. I wonder how many of those low-lifes have the bumper sticker that reads, "I Support Our Troops"?

I'm starting to wonder why none of the Teabaggers had their skulls cracked by the police like that soldier the other day.

They've been treated with kiddie gloves. They were bringing guns to rallies too.

I think this is a case of reverse ageism. The cops went ruthless on the younger crowd while letting gramps do whatever the hell he wanted.

It's not "reverse ageism." It's plutocracy. The police aren't going to hassle the 1% for whom the tea baggers advocate, and for whom the police work.

This sort of thing is more than just a "story". I lived among the Cubans in Miami for a year, and ran into the mythos, the epic, the accounts spun for their impact, for their finales that fit the big legend about Castro. As with many such things, different tales within the whole may actually contradict each other in such things as dates, but that goes unnoticed because the tales are never considered together, only individually and with respect to the whole mythos.

I knew several dozen people who told tales which contradicted each other, but they never noticed. And as their kids absorbed the mythos and took on the legend, they accepted the individual tales as true without ever comparing them.

I think that's what's happening with Rubio: he's known the stories, sometimes even the same set of events from a different perspective, but has never compared them directly, only seen how they fit the whole. Now others are looking at the tales, not as pieces supporting the mythos and relating only to it, but in comparison to each other -- and the pieces don't match. And as Rubio is made to do the same comparison, he suffers some cognitive dissonance and presumably is forced to reassess the mythos and legend.

For a great example of how this sort of thing works, look at the first two chapters of Genesis: Taken literally, they contradict each other (a lot worse than Rubio's stories). But they're not supposed to be looked at in comparison with each other, rather as pieces of a 'mythos' or 'legend' of God creating everything.
