Mariah Carey still holds the record for being the female artist with a song that has spent the most weeks at #1 on the U.S. pop charts and the song's called "One Sweet Day" which was released as a single waaaay back in 1995 and spent a total of 16 (non-consecutive) weeks at #1. Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" is currently in it's 10th (consecutive) week at #1 and there's a chance it could surpass Mariah's record, but the problem is, it's losing steam. The song is basically now starting to lose both airplay and sales points.

I'm rooting for Beyonce because I think she's adorable. I used to find Mariah Carey adorable a long time ago, but nowadays I think she's just annoying and overrated. I think that there's just too much of a spotlight on Mariah and that she should share it.

If you're rooting for Beyonce like I am, you could call your local major Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop radio station to request for “Irreplaceable” to help increase the song’s airplay points and what you could also do is you could download it on iTunes or you could purchase it it's available from a major music store which has SoundScan technology to help increase the song's sales points. And please to try to convince your friends and family to purchase it and to request for it on Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop radio. Beyonce being the underdog, let's hope that her song will be able to make it to 17 weeks at #1 at least to beat Mariah Carey’s record.

In the music video for “Irreplaceable”, Beyonce is just playing a character, the Medea “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” character which really isn't part of Beyonce's own character at all. The way she sings “I can have another you in a minute, matter fact he’ll be here in a minute” and “I can have another you by tomorrow” in the single is different than the way it is in the music video. In the single, she sings it in desperation, whereas in the music video, she sings it in furious fashion because she’s just playing the Medea character. The music video is hilarious and here it is from YouTube.com.

Here's the music video for "One Sweet Day" by Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey which has spent 16 weeks at #1:

Yup, Mariah Carey used to be dark-haired and demure up to her Daydream album, I believe.

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

I absolutely hate this song of hers! Specially the chorus, "to the left to the left," if i hear it again i'll probably want to kill myself... It's truly not that good, at least compared to Mariah Carey's and Boy 2 men song.

Poor Mariah. Can't sing anymore.

I'm sorry, but you can't compare "Irreplaceable" to "One Sweet Day." "Day" is a classic. I like "Irreplaceable," but I can admit that it's a FAD song; it won't stand the test of time. And please, Beyonce can never lay a hand on Mariah. Mariah doesn't sing like she used to, but she still has a very powerful voice. Sorry, but you sound like some obsessed fan. Dude, it's just a song. Don't ask people to call a radio station to request it. If people like it, they will buy it. They are not going to call a radio station because you asked them to.

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

Everyone has an opinion, whether positive or negative of "Irreplaceable" and that's okay, I’m not offended by any of the negative comments. And I'm really not an obsessed fan of anyone, and I just want to make it clear to everyone that I 'm not offended by that comment about me sounding like an obsessed fan.

I wasn’t just expecting anyone to request and purchase “Irreplaceable” just because I asked them to, I made a particular post to call all Beyonce fans in this website and I’m thinking if someone else who is a Beyonce fan sees my post, they just might be influenced to request and purchase Beyonce’s song, that’s all. We Beyonce fans influence each other.

A lot of Beyonce fans like me might think it’s great if she beats Mariah’s record. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Mariah Carey and I really don’t care if Mariah continues to have more success than Beyonce in the future, but I just find Mariah a little annoying like how some people find Paris Hilton or Christina Aguilera a little annoying. Obviously people do find Mariah Carey a little annoying, hence the term “Mariah Scarey” which I think was started from “Will & Grace”. So Beyonce beating Mariah’s record would just put a small smile on my face since I’m a Beyonce fan and that I find Mariah a little annoying, that’s all. And if Beyonce never breaks any of Mariah’s records, I couldn’t care less, I’m not gonna be angry or sad about it. And when I said “I think that there's just too much of a spotlight on Mariah and that she should share it.”, I’m not upset that Mariah has more of a spotlight and if Beyonce never gets the same amount of spotlight, that’s fine with me because like I said, I’m not an obsessed fan of Beyonce and I don’t hate Mariah Carey.

Granted that “One Sweet Day” was a nice #1 hit song for both Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, but I don’t think the song is considered classic. I don’t hear it on adult contemporary radio stations nowadays and I live near a very major U.S. city, so it’s not a radio station from a rural area that I listen to. I still hear “Vision of Love” and “I’ll Make Love To You” played sometimes on radio, so I think those songs are considered classic. Anyway, you never know if “Irreplaceable” will become classic, it’s too early to tell. And if it doesn't become classic, that's fine by me because like I said many times before, I'm not an obsessed fan.

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

"One Sweet Day" is such a classic song that people still listen to and love to this day. I love Beyonce but I don't see "Irreplaceable" as a classic in the making worthy of spending that many weeks at #1.

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

You say:

"the problem is is that 'Irreplaceable' is losing steam"

Excuse me but where is THE PROBLEM??????!!!!! (!)

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

I'm a huge Mariah fan, but One Sweet Day is one of my least favorite singles she's released. "We belong together" spent 14 weeks at # 1. I much prefer that song

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

To the left , to the left hmmm.....I love it!

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

Irreplacable is replaced at no.1. It's now at no.2 this week. Great Nelly gave Beyonce a kick down. You go Nelly!

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

LMAO!!!!!!

Yeah, I agree that remark was pretty funny and clever...hmmm, I take it you guys aren't rooting for Beyonce like I am :D but touche, renegade_killerbee ..| .

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

Starlight70, I wasn’t surprised that Nelly Furtado took over the #1 spot because I think “Say It Right” had a boost from more airplay and it’s great that she now has another #1. I’m becoming a Nelly Furtado fan too and in fact I’m gonna buy her album, but I hope Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” will take the #1 spot again and stay there for another seven weeks to beat Mariah Carey’s record.

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

Mariah Carey’s “One Sweet Day” did stay at #1 for 16 weeks, but it wasn’t 16 consecutive weeks, so that means if “One Sweet Day dropped from #1 and eventually went back up again to #1 and then dropped again and then went up again to #1, then the same can apply to “Irreplaceable”. “Irreplaceable” has been at #1 for 10 consecutive weeks and now it just dropped from #1 to #2.

“Say It Right” isn’t really a new song and it’s just about as old as “Irreplaceable” (“Say It Right” debuted on the Hot 100 14 weeks ago, whereas “Irreplaceable” debuted 17 weeks ago).

Since “Say It Right” is about as old as “Irreplaceable” and got a lot more airplay late in the game, then it means that if “Irreplaceable” starts to get more airplay like “Say It Right” then it just might be able to go back to #1 and challenge Mariah’s record. So to all my fellow Beyonce fans here, if you want her to be in the record books, please keep requesting for “Irreplaceable” on Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop radio and what could also help is if you could download the song or purchase it in-store. And please also try to convince others to do the same.

It was someone else who let me know about Beyonce being the underdog, and so if we spread the word around, “Irreplaceable” just might be able to beat the diva’s record. Thank you.

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

I think Irreplaceable is a awesome and its my favorite song that Beyonce has released to date. And I also love One Sweet Day by Mariah.

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

I like Get Me Bodied. I hear that's the next single. I don't like any of the other tracks from that horrid album, so I'm praaaaying it is.

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

I prefer Upgrade U.

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

To Internet Enthusiast Mariah Carey's single "One sweet Day" did stay number one for 16 CONSECUTIVE weeks. It is the longest RUNNING number one single in history. If you were to watch the Billboard Shows, or Award Shows, they state that. Even in the Billboard #1 book. Thank you Much

The one that is not at consecutive record is We Belong Together. Carrie Underwood brought it down for a week.

Re: Beyonce being the underdog, she might be able to beat Mariah Carey's record!!!

Someone told me it was "One Sweet Day" that spent a non-consecutive run and I guess whoever told me was confused between that single and that other one, "We Belong Together" which spent 14 weeks at #1. But thanks for the information you guys, now I realize that it's "One Sweet Day" that had the consecutive run atop the Billboard Hot 100 whereas "We Belong Together" spent the non-consecutive run there.

And yeah I agree, the big diva's "One Sweet Day" is the longest running #1 in U.S. music history...so far anyway.
