Mariah Carey still holds the record for being the female artist with a song that has spent the most weeks at #1 on the U.S. pop charts and the song's called "One Sweet Day" which was released as a single waaaay back in 1995 and spent a total of 16 (non-consecutive) weeks at #1. Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" is currently in it's 10th (consecutive) week at #1 and there's a chance it could surpass Mariah's record, but the problem is, it's losing steam. The song is basically now starting to lose both airplay and sales points.
I'm rooting for Beyonce because I think she's adorable. I used to find Mariah Carey adorable a long time ago, but nowadays I think she's just annoying and overrated. I think that there's just too much of a spotlight on Mariah and that she should share it.
If you're rooting for Beyonce like I am, you could call your local major Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop radio station to request for “Irreplaceable” to help increase the song’s airplay points and what you could also do is you could download it on iTunes or you could purchase it it's available from a major music store which has SoundScan technology to help increase the song's sales points. And please to try to convince your friends and family to purchase it and to request for it on Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop radio. Beyonce being the underdog, let's hope that her song will be able to make it to 17 weeks at #1 at least to beat Mariah Carey’s record.
In the music video for “Irreplaceable”, Beyonce is just playing a character, the Medea “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” character which really isn't part of Beyonce's own character at all. The way she sings “I can have another you in a minute, matter fact he’ll be here in a minute” and “I can have another you by tomorrow” in the single is different than the way it is in the music video. In the single, she sings it in desperation, whereas in the music video, she sings it in furious fashion because she’s just playing the Medea character. The music video is hilarious and here it is from YouTube.com.
Here's the music video for "One Sweet Day" by Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey which has spent 16 weeks at #1:
Yup, Mariah Carey used to be dark-haired and demure up to her Daydream album, I believe.
