No one ever said that murderous acts are the preserve of muslims. But at this point in time, terrorism has an appeal for some muslims. Therefore increasing the number of muslims increases the risk.

He also said religion had nothing to do with it, but the harsh position of Islam against same sex, was without doubt part of the killers thinking.

We don't know the reason for the murderer's actions. Speculation is not evidence of anything. The police investigations will reveal all we need to know in due course.

I agree. While attempted mass killings might not reduce in terms of occurrence, the number of people killed in each attempt would be lower if the gunman didn't have access to weapons designed for warfare.
