Matthew Shephard Act passed!

I don't wanna rain on your parade, but it has only passes in the Senate. There are many more steps before it becomes a Law.

But here is to hoping that it happens, and soon!

We know that, but at the very least we should celebrate the fact that we have one foot in a door which was once closed.

If bush vetos it, he's got alot of angry citizens against him.

If he doesn't veto it he's got alot of angry citizens against him.

It's up to him, but using the veto probably goes against his already corrupt faith.

A step inside a once tightly shut doot.

Bush has to really tread carefully this. It will be interesting to see what he does.

The White House has promised to veto it if it comes across W's desk.

W hasn't actually said that he'll veto it. Just the White House, whoever that is.

The Senate attached this bill to a Defense authorization bill as a rider . . . and it passed. Since the bill differs from the version passed by the House, it goes to a conference committee to negotiate the final version.

The House had already passed the hate crime bill. So the rider might stay on it.

Administration aides said they would recommend vetoing the hate crime bill when it stood alone. It's anybody's guess whether the President would veto it as a rider.

If it's vetoed, it might still be passed with a 2/3 majority in each house. The hate crime bill does not have a 2/3 majority in the House of Representatives.

It is absolutely too early to start celebrating. It's time to be calling your Representative to support the Senate's hate crime provision in the Department of Defense Authorization Bill.

This may sound like stupid question but what the hell was the bill doing here -

The Senate in a bipartisan vote of 60 to 39 accepted cloture which ended debate on the bill and then moved to approve the Matthew Shepard Act by a voice vote -- attaching it as an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2008 Department of Defense Authorization bill.

great place for the bill to be attached - but maybe it will get passed as it is part of Defense Spending Bill and we know we need all of those that we can possibly get.](*,)

The President has threatened to veto the legislation, calling it "unnecessary."

And how much unnecessary rubbish has he signed into law.

I'm waiting for another signing statement.

Sen. Kennedy (the Senate sponsor of the hate crime bill) introduced the amendment
arguing that it was appropriate because hate crimes are a form of domestic terrorism.

What it all boils down to is Bush (and all of is toadies he's added to the fed government) don't want to sign or pass any laws that give homosexuals rights or privileges because it goes against his faith. Oh, Bush may try and pass it off as politicking, but it's blatantly obvious.

It's disgusting.
