Unfortunately some gay men are, in fact, voting for Mccain.
gay men, like str8 men, like lesbians, like str8 women, like transsexuals ....................
evaluate pres candidates on MANY issues
not just single issues
JMac is clearly on the defensive here - and has to say what he says - to protect his right flank - and it sucks
I don't think he really believes it - I don't
I could be wrong
George S really went after him here - clearly on a fringe issue
what is obama's position on this and gay marriage?
Maybe the biopsy they took near his temple will turn out to be recurrent melanoma. Its not nice to wish bad things on people, but I'm far from nice so, I'll do it anyway
I think anyone voting for McCain that is gay doesn't really respect who they are. Plain and simple

So in a way they don't have respect for themselves

So true. Pity ain't it.![]()
You have to remember... if someone grew up in a conservative environment and all they hear is republican its so embedded into them and they learn that its the only way from their parents... how do you change someone who thinks they've been right for so long. It also hurts their view of their own family or community. Nobody wants to hear they are wrong. They feel so strongly to defend the Republican party that they will give up their own dignity of who they are.
So in a way they dont have respect for themselves
Why are you a "good gay" if you're Democrat and a bad one if Republican? As far as I can see, little progress has been made with either party. One pays lip service and the other is more overt but neither is making strides. Neither candidate supports gay marriage but wait, Obama supports civil unions so we all rush over to his side? "Supports" and will "push for" are two different things. Frankly, until a candidate comes out and says, "I will make it a point to fight for civil unions or gay marriage within my first 100 days of office" that issue is simply off the table for me.
Thank you Chance for stating what anyone who isn't a puppet should have have figured out for themselves. Gay menand women aren't stupid. They think of many issues as important issues when they get to the ballot. I'm not a Republican,i'm registered non partisan so i'll never become like the followers i witnness. I know many pro life people who are voting for Obama over McCain. If the posters denouncing you think i should try to convince pro lifers to not vote for Obama because he's pro choice then i suppose i could try that. With so man issues at hand other than abortion it only makes sense i give it a shot.
Chance dismisses gay adoptions and all the related gay civil rights as "a fringe issue" so clearly he and folk like him aren't going to have a problem in voting for McCain despite his anti-gay positions.
To those, for whom gay civil rights are more than just "a fringe issue", McCain's anti-gay positions pose more of a problem. Not just in themselves and the harm that a McCain Supreme Court will do when it recriminalizes gay sex. But also because gay rights are as good a focus on how a presidential candidate will treat individual liberties, the Constitution and Americans he disagrees with, etc., as any other.
McCain splutters out his anti-gay positions and has promised to stack the Supreme Court with anti-privacy (i.e. anti-gay) justices. It's just more Bush.
Don't think gay rights are a priority and want more Bush, then vote for McCain.
But it seems perfectly reasonable for other folk to see that as a foolish decision.
The only thing the Republicans seem to do well is to get people to vote against their self-interest.
