McCain wants debate postponed, asks Obama to agree

Re: McCain wants debate postponed, asks Obama to a

Real reason for Mc wanting to postpone the 1st debate is to either push the VP debate back or cancel the VP debate altogether. The do NOT want Palin exposed that much, especially live.

The REAL Reason or just your fantasy ?

Seriously why all the posts about Palin not being ready for Prime Time ?

She would be more then ready for this "Debate" after a months time with her trainers. ( Does JRB-foot in mouth-) even have 1 trainer ?

Me thinks you's all fear that she will sweep the floor & vacuum the carpet !

A fact you may not want to face, is that the Female voters will go over the top with what they hear from her and hold hands and say... Ya , You Go Gurl.

Ya Dims fear her and are in denial , and you are still pissed that HRC is not on that stage or any other stage. :gogirl:

Re: McCain wants debate postponed, asks Obama to a

especially if he shows up to debate and McCain doesn't, yet he's still doing the D.C. thing.

Then BHO will have a one hour press conference debating his own dreams. And look like a fool standing there by himself while JMac is doing his job !!

I'd say the fear, if there is one, is that she will appear like an ordinary American woman, not an elitist, not an in-your-face feminist, and so in spite of doing poorly will be seen as "winning" the debate.
After all, looking back at presidential campaign debates, the "winner" tends to be the one that made an emotional impact which resonated with people.

No, he'll look like someone who is capable of doing his job on two things at once, while McCain can't.

^Don't forget that he hasn't voted on a bill since April.

>>>Don't forget that he hasn't voted on a bill since April.

Reagan actually had it right. Facts are stupid things. This won't matter in the slightest, so long as he can get America to think/remember that he "jumped in first to save America while slow-thinkin' Obama kept on stumpin'."

The reality doesn't matter, it's the spin that matters, and this EASILY spins in Mccain's favor.

True, but thankfully polling shows otherwise so far. SurveyUSA polled 1000 people and got the following results, but they rightly mention that early polling on breaking news can change rapidly.

The survey is here in full , but the basics questions and results are:

The first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama is scheduled to take place in two days. Should the debate be held as scheduled? Should the debate be held, but the format changed to focus on the economy? Or, should the debate be postponed?

Hold as scheduled 50
Hold with focus on economy 36
Postpone 10

Is the right response to the turmoil on Wall Street to suspend the campaigns for president? To continue the campaigns as though there is no crisis? Or, to re-focus the campaigns with a unique emphasis on the turmoil on Wall Street?

Suspend 14
Continue 31
Refocus the campaign 48

If Friday's presidential debate does not take place, would that be good for America? Bad for America? Or would it make no difference?

Good for America 14
Bad for America 46
No difference 35

Did you see Palin's response when Couric asked her about Rick Davis working the McCain campaign and taking lobbyist money from Freddie Mac, TWICE?!
It was fucking embarrassing!

Uh, JMac hasn't been in Washington for a year. He's missed more votes (350+) than any other Senator this year.

Do you really want to get into the voting? I mean Sen Obama dosent really have a great record of voting himself, and that includes his entire time in the US Senate.

I'm talking about this election year. McCain has missed more votes than any other senator, but suddenly he needs to inject himself into matters he admits he knows nothing about?
Why does he feel the need to get in the way, besides the bumbling Palin, his own gaffes, his ties to the economic woes we're going through, and the conflict of interests his campaign manager has been caught in?
I get he's trying to come off as a leader, but if you look underneath the sheep's clothing you see a wolf who's looking to escape his problems.
Back when he was enjoying the Democratic primaries and sopping up the drama that was Rev. Wright, I bet he never imagined he'd be caught in a stew like this.
And yet, through all that fire, Obama never felt the need to suspend his campaign.

Re: McCain wants debate postponed, asks Obama to a

Yes, according to Kansas City info-zine:

McCain is this Congress' most absent senator, having missed more than 64 percent of votes since January 2007.

His Senate office did not return repeated inquiries for comment.

Not surprisingly, Obama is the second-sparsest voter outside of Sen. Tim Johnson, D- S.D., who missed time to recover from a brain hemorrhage. Obama has missed 46 percent of votes since January 2007.

But, where does Obama fit in that scheme, behind McCain and a guy with a brain hemorrhage....

Re: McCain wants debate postponed, asks Obama to a

^ It's not clear what your point is.

Obviously, they were both engaged in their campaigns and presumably voted when they thought they needed to make a difference and not where whatever they would be voting on would pass or fail with or without their vote.

In any event, Obama's record is still 20% better than McCain's.

McCain's pulled his dog-ate-my-homework pussy excuse before:

McCain also “suspended campaigning” when he ran for president eight years ago. After telling the press (his base) that he was going to announce his run in March 1999, he melodramatically “postponed” the announcement because of the U.S. bombing of the Serbs in Kosovo (and the rest of Serbia).

On a single day during this brave non-postponement, McCain appeared on Fox News, MSNBC, Larry King, Charlie Rose and the business channels to talk about Kosovo and his suspended campaign.

But nobody’s falling for that trick anymore.

Re: McCain wants debate postponed, asks Obama to a

This is a bold move by McCain.

If nothing comes of it obviously it won't help McCain, but if he manages to be instrumental in brokering some kind of deal between Dems and Republicans, Congress and the White House, it could help him. And the truth is, he's been instrumental in bipartisan agreement in the past.

Obama asked McCain to join him in signing a joint statement calling for bipartisan unity to deal with this crisis. That's words. If McCain pulls this off, it'll be action.

Obama and McCain are meeting with President Bush today, which is happening because McCain made it happen.

Another bold move by McCain -- sure is interesting watching these twists and turns unfold.

Re: McCain wants debate postponed, asks Obama to a

^ I don't think one needs to get into all of that.

It's a failing campaign stunt that McCain has tried to pull before.

Hopefully, people will see through it.

Com'on letme you know that is not going to happen. There's going to be one debate on foreign policy and you're suggesting McCain might not show up and instead will work on a bailout plan which a lot of the country is against?

I think not.

Re: McCain wants debate postponed, asks Obama to a

Political move on McCain's part....sure.....but also made Obama look bad.

They are both paid Senators. This is their job.

What's Obama to do? Be absent at the most important vote of his short Senatorial years? Or go and vote "present" once again?

Looks like the White House meeting saved face for Obama. Low blow for the the Democratic candidate......

Re: McCain wants debate postponed, asks Obama to a

Reported today in WaPo:

The director of the Congressional Budget Office said yesterday that the proposed Wall Street bailout could actually worsen the current financial crisis.

During testimony before the House Budget Committee, Peter R. Orszag -- Congress's top bookkeeper -- said the bailout could expose the way companies are stowing toxic assets on their books, leading to greater problems. ...

Orszag offered alternatives, such as equity injections into particularly troubled companies, but allowed that those could lead to further problems, as well. In the end, he said, Congress must pass some sort of relief, if only because Wall Street is expecting it.

"If we did nothing, there is a significant risk of another collapse of confidence in the financial markets," he said.

This is a really complicated mess, and potentially a huge disaster, and I'm beginning to think McCain's move to suspend his campaign and return to work in Washington might be smart. Obama may have to do some fancy footwork to not look like he doesn't know how to prioritize.
