Probably not . . .last night I went over to my suck buddies house to do the deed. When I got there he mentioned that his back was killing him. I was thinking maybe a bj would help him feel better :). I even got into the Adidas sweat pants he wanted me to wear to make him feel better. About a half an hour into it, I noticed he was kinda out of it, and coming was not an urgent option for him. I told him no hard feelings "but you look hurt but you're cute as hell."

He laid face down on this bed as I was redressing. I walked over to him and just started to massage him, He told me the area were his back was hurting, so I started to rub and massage those areas. While I was massaging him I began to notice his knots, tension, soreness, and strain on his muscles. I went to work on them, and he loved it. Weirdly enough, I had an attachment to healing him, he mentioned I should become a MT. Since we actually both get massage on a irregular basis from our chiro appointments.

On the way home in the taxi, I told to the driver that him mentioning that I should become a MT kinda of excited me, in the sense I'd be part of a healing process, but as a male MT I wouldn't make money and would have to do it on side with another full time job as my career.

Has anyone here ever gone to massage school? Become a massage therapist???

I know a guy who does it for a living.
That's a friendship with very special "benefits" ;)

No, but i want to be a massage therapist for hot guys and make money.

Why wouldn't you make money doing it because you are male?

the two best MT i have had, i have seen a total of about 7 (2 guys the rest women) , have been women. my fave MT was really into deep tissue and she was like 5'2 and 105 pounds but gave the best massage hands down. the current one that i see infrequently is more holistic and intuitive about massage so I get this wonderful encompassing massage every time.

the two men massage therapist i had were really hot, by default. the first one i had to totally relax and zone out to the fact that i wanted to be sexual with him, so i couldn't relax as much.

and the second guy, i did end up popping a boner. he was totally professional and cool about it though, as i expected him to be.

could be just me, but i feel women and men are more uncomfortable with gay and/or straight men massaging them. the industry is dominated by women i think because of this reason. Also I think women are innately better healers with their female energies.

just my thoughts . . .

You're talents lie in making people feel good about themselves...

So I think ANYTHING in that realm would suit you...

Don't compare YOUR experiences with OTHER massage therapists...

Because YOU would be YOUR OWN...

It is kind of an interesting idea...

:):):)

yeah it really put a little spark in my mind . . .thanks for noticing..|

Well I don't know about all that but I would think most of your money would come from regular customers. If you could find some people who don't care then it would work. I don't think it would bother many people to be honest.

How would you be doing it anyway? At a certain place or going to peoples homes? I have a family member and people come to her house and she sometimes goes to their house to do it. Or you could do it in a hospital and then you wouldn't have to worry about people choosing you over someone else.

Heya Station,

I am an LMBT (Licensed Massage Bodywork Therapist).

It is a highly rewarding profession and the fastest growing in the past five years. As you already know Massage is used for a great many conditions and is becoming more widely used and accepted in the medical field. I choose to do it because since i was a kid i would give my mom and dad back/neck rubs, this also extended to family members and friends. They always told me that I knew where to find the correct spots and get them out. So after many years I needed a change. It lead me to becoming an LMBT.

In school we had a clinic which we would have people schedule appoints and also events we would go to outside school. I have only had 2 instances where someone specifically wanted a women - 1 was a woman and the other a man. I have worked on plenty of men and women. If people are open to alternative healing then the gender of the person isn't that important.

I will say that you have many opens and modalities that you can choose to specialize. I am going for my medical certification. I can work in a spa but it's not as fulfilling to me. You can make great money. You can work at a day spa/salon and negotiate a 50/50 split massage in my area goes for about 75-80 an hour. That's 35-40 an hour to you. You can also take clients at home on your off days and take the full cost of the massage. But I would suggest that if you do chose to become an LMBT ( I don't know where you live so I'm not sure what they are called there) Then start off at an established practice build a clientele get your name out their then start seeing people privately. After about 6 months and getting your medical cert. then you can work at a hospital at about 85 an hour our you can work at home with referrals from doctors. You bill the insurance and be your own boss.

Ok I see your in portland so it's LMT there and here is a link to a good site.

One other thing Portland is a hotbed for MTist, so it's very flooded and competitive. Otherwise it's one of the best places in the world for alternative medicine, too.

Station,

What area would you specialize in? Are you geared towards spa work? Medical (i.e. Cancer patients? A.I.D.S patients), Sport Massage?

There are so many different Modalities ( techniques) to choose from and you don't have to chose just one. Equine Massage is also an area that pays extremely well that you could also get into.

Hmmm off the top of my head I would think spa work since I am currently in the beauty industry and would feel most comfortable right way in that environment.

Ideally I would like to get into the massage I enjoy the most, deep tissue/Eastern centric massage, breathing techniques, healing/rehab massage . . .is there a certain name for the field???

Well all massage is based in Swedish/Deep Tissue. Sounds like you want to further develop in Thai Massage and Traditional Chinese medicine. Accupoint, Energy based modalities as in a holistic approach like Cupping, Accupoint, Rolfing, Integrative Reflexology, Reiki, Thai Massage and Lymphatic Drainage. These are all continuing ed so once you graduate then you can get certified to practice these techniques so starting in a spa would be great.

Also, there is a fairly new technique in spa work called Lypossage... That is a fairly high end service.

I'm planning on going to a Reiki session sooner than later, I'm really intrigued by it. Lymphatic Drainage and Cupping would be awesome too, nice I love the idea of detox, but I know at certain point balance is really important too.

I have a very strong interest in alternative medicine, but I don't know if I would be suited in it, would require lots of discipline and education. Perhaps I'll find a happy medium. Either way I want to make people feel good.

Well the three massage therapists that I see on a regular basis seem to make a comfortable living "wage" Of course even though they are professionally trained and very excellent from the pure massage standpoint; they are all into "erotic" massage. :)

Oh I have heard many of these accounts on a first hand basis from you . . .

The training in your area requires 500 hrs. It is the same in my area. However, the school i went to required 930 hrs of training to graduate. So almost any where i moved to i would over qualified to get a license which is a plus. The only state I believe that require more training is NY. The continuing ed. courses are about a day or weekend then your certified. Rolfing is more complicated and takes longer as well as Reiki but I here is rewarding.

Which gives us a bad name and we wrok hard to overcome. If people are going into doing "erotic" massages save your money buy a playboy video and advertise on Craig's list as an escort. Because that is what they are plain and simple. Healing has nothing to do with getting someone off. This also goes back to the OP's original fear of not making good money and having a bias against him being male. There is an inherent stigma attached to 1) Males who are more sexually aggressive in many peoples eyes(See British Airways thread) 2)That massage is has a sexual connotation that was not ever it's purpose but was twisted and subverted by people like you and the escorts you hire. It does make it harder for people to seek help and also for a male therapist to be trusted and sought out by women. Instead we get people like you calling us and asking for stuff any legit and ethical LMBT would participate in given our training.

There's another Jubber here that goes by the name Georgiadude. He's going to school right now for massage therapy. You might try contacting him. I'm sure he could answer a lot of questions you might have.

I was not attempting to degrade you in anyway. One of the masseur's I go to is highly trained and probably one of the best "pure" massage therapists that I have experienced. He has the best pure massage techniques that I have ever experienced from any massage therapist. He has compledted over 500 hours of training. . The fact that there are erotic elements to his massage sessions is an added benefit. There is a substantial difference between escorts and erotic massage therapists. And I would appreciate it if you would not imply that these type of massage therapists are escorts. Nor would I ever hire escorts.

In area of country where I live, it is clearly defined in advertising as to what type of massage each therapist does. It is not a matter of calling and asking what type of stuff the therapist does.
