What do you consider real? Name some bands or songs so we have some idea what you consider real.

I'm down with punk more than metal, though I do like metal. Punkwise I like the older stuff: Exploited, Crass, Total Chaos, Bad Religion, Misfits, Anti-flag and stuff like that.

Hell Yes! Fear, Discharge, Streelight Manifesto(more ska than punk), Caustic Christ, Dead Kennedys, Lower Class Brats, A Global Threat, OP IV, many many more on the punk side. As for metal: Stormlord, Agathodaimon, Cradle, Dragonforce, Dimmu Borgir, Black Sabbath etc.

I thought that I was one of the few that listened to the stuff and went to shows and what not.

Care to give any examples?

There's huge gap between metal and punk. They are definitely not one and the same, new or old.

Me? I hate punk. No offence to those who like it, I've just never identified with it in any capacity. I just can't relate to the 'being grounded', 'living in my parent's basement' whine-rock that is considered modern-day punk. If you're referring to old-school punk-rock such as the Sex Pistols and Iggy Pop, maybe.

You want to talk about Pantera, early-day Metallica, Iron Maiden and Black Label Society? Or legitimate rock 'n' roll such as Ozzy and Alice Cooper? I've got all day...

ya, that's what I think of when talkin about Metal, Like some Pantera & Iron Maiden, LOVE old Metallica, only know one song by BLS but love that one song (don't ask me the name, I can't remember shit for names) ;)

I do love older stuff like Pantera, Sepultura (my first concert when I was 13), and old Metallica. I also you to like stuff like Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse. Punkwise I also used to like 7 seconds.

And Hot Tamale, I doubt he was talking about current punk, which is more pop than punk, and a whole lotta suck.

My favrotie bands...

Soilwork
Darkane
Mnemic
Nevermore
Extol
Arch Enemy
Slayer
Judas Priest
Dimmu Borgir
Shadows Fall
Scar Symmetry
In flames
The Haunted
Strapping Young Lad
Eyes of Fire

I could go on...

there's a good deal of metal fans here.

NO... they're Canadian. They're very angry thrash but are still quite melodic and have the twisted sense of humor of Devin Townshend thrown in.

"All Hail the New Flesh" is one of my favorite songs ever.

Sample lyric:

"All you are is all you are. I'm sorry."

Oh, and by the way... you have to understand his sense of humor... when he's saying "you're all gay" or "Fuck you all", he's making fun of other metal bands.. he's not homophobic in the least... just wait til that silly intro is done, and hear the song... I love that band.

I'd highly recommend giving BLS a listen. They've released 8 studio albums since 1999 and already own a catalog of music that blows the work of most Rock n Roll Hall of Famer's out of the water, IMO. Nothing particularly "artsy", just straight-forward hard-rock. You can find a bunch of their stuff on YouTube, and also under Zakk Wylde.

This one here was their lead single from their current album that they released last fall:

And this one here is just a nice little guitar instrumental from Zakk ..|

Anyone else like Iron Maiden's latest album that they released last year? Those guys sound as good as ever.

I love Zakk Wylde and the BLS.

Seen them play live a few times, and without zakk, that "Off the Ground" album by Ozzy would have sucked.

I haven't had a chance to seen them live myself, but a number of friends of mine have seen them and are also big fans but found their shows to be kinda boring. I'd have to see them live myself to say, so who knows.

Which Ozzy album do you mean? Down to Earth, his last studio album? (Not including his Under Cover cover album). If that's the case then yeah, that album was a pretty lackluster effort.

I'm actually really looking forward to Ozzy's new release this year as Zakk will be writing with him this time, which he didn't do on Down to Earth. Last time that happened they put out Ozzmosis, which I thought was one of Ozzy's more under-rated albums.

Sorry.. "Down to Earth".

"Off the Ground" was the stinky Paul McCartney album.

Soilwork -- Are you an Ozzy fan? Also, out of curiosity, how did you find BLS live? Although I loved their 'Boozed, Broozed and Broken Boned' as a live DVD, I could see what my friends meant with them being less than jaw-dropping as a live show.

happy-boy -- Yeah, that's more of what I would consider "punk". Still never really "got it", I guess. Anything nowadays regarded as "Emo" I consider whine-rock. But hey, the guitar player from Hedley lived beside me for a number of years. I've always hated that band so when my Mom told me that he plays guitar for them I had to laugh. It all makes sense now...

And here's some Pantera for ya. Fuck I love this song. Just too bad how the band ended, and then with Dimebag being "Shot to Hell" on stage. Guy's a fucking legend.

I AM an Ozzy fan, but only in so much as I get a kick out of him.

He's done some amazing stuff, and some shit.

But I liked how Zakk Wylde just comes out on stage and does his thing without theatrics or gimmicks.

Yeah, I hear ya. The one thing you can't say about Ozzy is that he doesn't entertain you.

Me, as far as solo rock-acts go, I'd put Ozzy and Alice Cooper as my top 2. But of course, I'd list myself as more of a "Rock" fan than anything, so there's a large portion of metal that I don't necessarily like. My problem is I find a lot of those bands to be ridiculously talented, technically, but I'm not a huge fan of the 'stick the mic down your throat and scream as loud as you can' vocals.

Although I might personally recommend, for no apparent reason  (my personal favourite is 1600):

About Zakk, I guess that's the hit or miss thing about him. Some like his guitar-solo shred work, some don't care for his on-stage guitar-solo 'masturbation'.

Regardless, here's a nice guitar solo from Zakk, early Ozzy days. (I have an mp3 of this solo that is far more polished but have never found a YouTube video of it. Must have been the same tour...).

I_Alone, tell us more about which bands you like...
