Mets forever

Yeah that tounge is fun, but his smile gets me every time

And Mets fans are thrilled he'll be flashing those smiles for them at least through 2013!..|He just wants to get better each year and has a great passion to win,we are fortunate to have such a great guy to cheer for off the field as the tremendous talent on it!:D

Quick expression of congratulations to Carlos Beltran and David Wright for their second and first, respectively, Gold Gloves!!!

:=D::=D::=D:
I loved that Wright won and A-Rod didn't

I loved the Daily News story headline: "A-Rod who? David Wright wins Gold Glove"

I also loved how Omar Minaya was on record as saying he wants David to stay on 3rd.

"We don't need to fill third base," Minaya said yesterday. "I'm telling you, today we're very happy with David Wright at third base." and "We can't move David. No one is untouchable, but he is the face of our franchise. That would be more than a baseball decision. David Wright is part of our core, part of our nucleus. I don't see any scenario where that happens."

So it didn't seem the org was too interested in acquiring A-Rod, but then you hear about the "SECRET TUESDAY NIGHT MEETING" with Scott Boras. From SI.com,

"Mets general manager Omar Minaya told Boras in their clandestine meeting that the team planned to monitor the A-Rod situation for now, according to a team official, a position that makes sense for all interested teams, considering no monetary offers are allowed until Monday. Mets people say they have interest in Rodriguez, and have a figure in mind, but don't plan to engage in a bidding war for his services.

Minaya declined comment on the meeting, and as for A-Rod, Minaya repeated his mantra that he's one of the many free agents the Mets are evaluating. Boras also declined to discuss the meeting."

Oy. The suspense is killing me. I say pass up A-Rod in favor of some beef on the mound!!! Cultivate Wright into the superstar he can become. But most Mets fans are saying that, right?

Sonny, I do!!! They are on my desktop at work...I have everything Mets and Giants!!! LOVE THEM BOYZ!!!!

I know, I know, it was the wost collapse in baseball history, bla, bla, bla
But I am now and will always be a Mets fan, nothing will ever change that.
I send this message to all my friends that are Mets fans, don't let what happened in 2007 cause you to abandon the team. They gave us a lot of great games, we have watched all the guys grow as a team, and we were there for them thick and thin. Don't forget they held on to first place for all but three days the whole season.

Wear your Mets shirts and hats with pride, look forward to 2008 with excitement and anticipation for a great season and championship.

Looks like we lost Glavin, he has declined his 2008 player option worth
$11 million and instead collected a $3 million buyout.
The decision does not preclude his returning to the Mets, but I think if he decides to continue playing it will be as a Brave.

LET'S GO METS!

wilehart!!! It's about time you got your ass into the baseball threads!

I :luv: David Wright....he is so hot..

discuss as well sonny ;)

The season ends in collapse and very little changes so far it seems. We need grinders and we're not getting them.Tom Glavine goes,so we need Pedro to pick up big.Humber,Maine,Perez have got to step up consistently...and I hope we are in the market for another top flight pitcher.Minaya is still pretty much standing pat,and I don't think the Mets can afford to go in essentially with the group that fucked things up.I hope A-Rod is only a mild interest on the part of the Mets, just a courtesy call in case he doesn 't get the megaoffers he and Boras are hioping to score. In my book, only David Wright,Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes(albeit coming back playing consistent aggressive ball rather than streaky funks like last season)shoould have been settled offensive pieces....the Mets need to bring a little more youth and athleticism elsewhere.(In system or through other organizations)

You got that right!! David has only just begun to wow us. 30/30 last season was just the start..|

I agree about the pitching, I am pretty sure Glavin is headed back to Atlanta,
and that's fine. just did not play well for us, not a good fit. Good luck Tommy!

I also agree about think Minaya's efforts, he is more focused on hooking up with Scott Boras to get a leg up on other prospects besides A-Rod. Omar needs to work on upgrading the Mets' pitching staff. The Mets have spoken numerous times with the Athletics about Joe Blanton and with the White Sox about Jose Contreras and Jon Garland, all of whom are available. I would also like him to go after Silva or Santana
Another problem are the Closers who were so ineffective when they have to pitch 6 outs. What's with Willie leaving some of em so long? It seemed like a big ego trip not to pull wagner.
Oh, and yes, youth is the ticket, first of all Reyes needs to focus, he sucked in September, where as Wright was awesome with his clutch hitting. I don't want the Mets to give up Gomez either, that kid is going to be great!

Garland is a good idea,Contreras too old and inconsistent.Heard possibly Oakland's young pitchers Rick Blanton and Dan Haren were available.either one would be a great addition.Though the opportunity to get Johann Santana from the Twins,if it presented itself, has to be fully engaged of course...he's the best true number one starter available.

It's cute that among those most surprised by David Wright's Gold Glove at third base for the NL was David Wright himself. Not satisfied wiith huis fielding consistency,he admitted he feels he still isn't where he wants to be defensively, but like the David Wright we've come to adore he is going to give his damnedest to get to the point of defensive excellence.

I definitely hope we hang on to Carlos Gomez even over the brilliant talent but inconsistent effort of Lastings Milledge, who could help land us a top quality young veteran type.I read he's actually supposed to be faster than Jose Reyes at 6'4,210 pounds, which is amazing to comprehend. He can be a real star if he can get his tools together, and he seems to be the kind of person who wants to make the effort.

Who do you think will ultimately be the catcher of the Mets? They seem to be open to a return for Paul LoDuca, whose effort and passion I love...but only if they have no other real choice it appears.

I was just viewing online in the Mets official website the vitual tour/representation of the complete CitiField when it opens in 2009.God,what a beautiful stadium and a first class venue for Mets fans to cheer on their guys for years to come.when it opens, the way it looks and the team on the rise...it's going to be FANTASTIC!..|

LOL!!! ABsolut, definitely, man!! David Wright is soooooooooo hot! I love Carlos Beltran as well...However, Grady Sizemore is my choice for cutest centerfolder!!

LET GO METS!!!!

Absolut, I'll be checking the baseball threads more oftern..I gfot alot to say about baseball!!

Yup, he has made some bad throwing errors, but people are too quick to forget some of the awesome plays he made as well. I mean SPECTACULAR!

I am not a Milledge fan, he is too much the fool and not in my opinon a team player. Case in point, last year when he purposely came into the pitch and allowed himself to get hit by the ball. The replay clearly showed that he did, I could not believe the ump did not catch it. The guys calling the game in the booth noticed it as well. We had a man on third and Milledge's job was to bring him home. I have been sour on him ever since. Pissed me off when Willie gave him more playing time than Green. Milledge pulled some crap in the clubhouse as well and is not "one of the guys". In addition, so ok, he had some good at bats but nothing that consistant.
You are right on about Gomez, in fact, Reyes has even said Gomez is faster than he is. Ever see them run out to the field together at the start of an inning? pretty impresive and damn fun to watch. Have you seen that kid Fernando Martinez?
19 and full of spunk, he is another one to watch.

Who do you think will ultimately be the catcher of the Mets? They seem to be open to a return for Paul LoDuca, whose effort and passion I love...but only if they have no other real choice it appears[/QUOTE]

Tough question. lo Duca of course wants to come back, but the Mets are holding out. They have other trade options they might be interested in. They have among others, Pelfrey, Humber and Milledge. I don't want to lose Gomez or Fernando Martinez, I think maybe they are looking at Olivo or Laird, but of course neither one is better than Lo Duca. They also have a kid in Minor league AA, Nickeas, I think his name is.
I really want paul back, but The only guy I want if not Lo Duca is Pasada. Castro is coming back too.
I am also wondering what is going to happen at second. Castillo may not be back.

Lastly I want to say one more time, I don't want A-Rod. It is looking more and more now that he will go to the Dodgers. Please LA, TAKE HIM!
Oh and now looks like Mazzilli won't be going with Torre after all, he has now said he wants to stay put, a family thing.

Good points, sonny.I wish I did get to catch Gomez and Reye's running drills before the games, but I didn't get to Shea this past season (Usually in the past years I've caught a couple of games a season). Will definitely try again next season,Shea's last...it seems like watching them race each other is a treat for the fans.

If Milledge goes for Santana,I'd be all for that(Humber or Pelfrey as wll would have to go)I would rather have Gomez over Milledge, and hope he can develop with a lot of playing time in left or right(depending on where they use Moises Alou).I've heard of Fernando Martinez, and he's good enough to be ready for 2009 or 2010.Not as much speed as Gomez, but tremendous hitting and power potentials.New York outfield by 2010 of Carlos Beltran,Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez, with Endy Chavez as a fourth outfielder, could be a really good one.

I am not too crazy about Castillo, think he has a problematic knee that going beyond two years guaranteed may be a tough order as his defensive range and speed may soon become pretty limited.Go quick and younger there soon, only sign him to a shorter term contract.

Don't know what is going to happen with the catching situation,Posada wants four years and at his age even going three may be a reach. Will be interstuing to see if Lo Duca comes back or not.Though keeping Castro as one of if not the best backup catcher is a great move.

I don't know about A-Rod...He would definitely NOT be my priority this offseason,(Santana would be far and above the first priority, though the Yankees appear to lust after him as much and have the prospects to get Minnesota's attention as well)but depending on the years and money,I wouldn't be dead set against it.I'd like to see how much the Dodgers and Angels, the only other teams really interested in A-Rod will overpay to get him.Rodriguezay love the idea of playing on the Weat Coast, but he doesn't love Joe Torre or Vladimir Guerrero near enough to give them any discounts out West.Scott Boras has that obsession of the most eye-opening,sanity-defying contract ever to score for A-Rod.

Finally, have you seen the virtual representation of CitiField on the Met's website? What an incredible ballpark and a must go destination that will be the pride of New York and Mets fans for years!:D

That it is, they have also run the bases together, with Willie laughing his butt off.

I would not miss Milledge, but I would maybe like to give Pelfrey another shot. He was impressive in spring training, but not so much in the regular season.

Well, he is an all-star, I like what he does as a No. 2 hitter, such as giving himself up, hitting behind the runner and taking pitches. He hit about .300 last season, and was a tough at-bat, he would grind it out. I think he would have done even better had Reyes not slumped in the second half of the season.
I hear what you are sayin about his chronically sore knees, but he did play in 50 of 56 games after the Mets acquired him.

Yeah I have, and when you attend games at Shea you can se the progres every time, really amazing. (amazin)
They are going to take Shea apart right after the last game of the 2008 sesaon, they can not implode. The area will be made into parking for Citi Field with all the bases left intact. That's an opening day I will not miss!

Last week was a pretty good week for Carlos Beltran and David Wright. They each won Gold Glove honors and today they earned National League Silver Slugger Awards. For Beltran, it was his second consecutive Silver Slugger, while for Wright it was first. Wright and Beltran combined for 75 doubles, 63 home runs and 219 RBI.
They became only the third and fourth Mets players to register a 30-home run and 100-RBI season.Strawberry and Piazza also accomplished that.

Wright hit .325 with 42 doubles, one triple, 30 home runs, 34 stolen bases and 107 RBI. He became the third player in Mets history to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in a season.

Do you get the idea that maybe I like, no, love this dude. ;)

Then there was this crack from Chipper Jones,

“When I found out (Wright won) I was speechless, for quite some time. Certainly the guys with the least amount of errors and best fielding percentage quite obviously didn’t win it…”

“I wouldn’t have been disappointed had someone like Feliz or Ramirez won it. I’m a little confused by the final tally — that’s a head-scratcher for me.”

Well, chop fuckin chop :p

Well,if Chipper were all that great a consistent third baseman, the Braves would not have moved him to the outfield for a few years? He may be playing back at the hot corner, and I love his gamer attitude on the field...but methinks "Larry" is a bit jealous?:p

You bet, ..|
The poor bastard may now realise he will never be the third baseman Wright is. David's awards are validation of his talents, something Chipper can not accept.
