Quick expression of congratulations to Carlos Beltran and David Wright for their second and first, respectively, Gold Gloves!!!

I loved that Wright won and A-Rod didn't
I know, I know, it was the wost collapse in baseball history, bla, bla, bla
But I am now and will always be a Mets fan, nothing will ever change that.
I send this message to all my friends that are Mets fans, don't let what happened in 2007 cause you to abandon the team. They gave us a lot of great games, we have watched all the guys grow as a team, and we were there for them thick and thin. Don't forget they held on to first place for all but three days the whole season.
Wear your Mets shirts and hats with pride, look forward to 2008 with excitement and anticipation for a great season and championship.
Looks like we lost Glavin, he has declined his 2008 player option worth
$11 million and instead collected a $3 million buyout.
The decision does not preclude his returning to the Mets, but I think if he decides to continue playing it will be as a Brave.
LET'S GO METS!

The season ends in collapse and very little changes so far it seems. We need grinders and we're not getting them.Tom Glavine goes,so we need Pedro to pick up big.Humber,Maine,Perez have got to step up consistently...and I hope we are in the market for another top flight pitcher.Minaya is still pretty much standing pat,and I don't think the Mets can afford to go in essentially with the group that fucked things up.I hope A-Rod is only a mild interest on the part of the Mets, just a courtesy call in case he doesn 't get the megaoffers he and Boras are hioping to score. In my book, only David Wright,Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes(albeit coming back playing consistent aggressive ball rather than streaky funks like last season)shoould have been settled offensive pieces....the Mets need to bring a little more youth and athleticism elsewhere.(In system or through other organizations)
wilehart!!! It's about time you got your ass into the baseball threads!

It's cute that among those most surprised by David Wright's Gold Glove at third base for the NL was David Wright himself. Not satisfied wiith huis fielding consistency,he admitted he feels he still isn't where he wants to be defensively, but like the David Wright we've come to adore he is going to give his damnedest to get to the point of defensive excellence.[
Yup, he has made some bad throwing errors, but people are too quick to forget some of the awesome plays he made as well. I mean SPECTACULAR!
I definitely hope we hang on to Carlos Gomez even over the brilliant talent but inconsistent effort of Lastings Milledge, who could help land us a top quality young veteran type.I read he's actually supposed to be faster than Jose Reyes at 6'4,210 pounds, which is amazing to comprehend. He can be a real star if he can get his tools together, and he seems to be the kind of person who wants to make the effort.
I am not a Milledge fan, he is too much the fool and not in my opinon a team player. Case in point, last year when he purposely came into the pitch and allowed himself to get hit by the ball. The replay clearly showed that he did, I could not believe the ump did not catch it. The guys calling the game in the booth noticed it as well. We had a man on third and Milledge's job was to bring him home. I have been sour on him ever since. Pissed me off when Willie gave him more playing time than Green. Milledge pulled some crap in the clubhouse as well and is not "one of the guys". In addition, so ok, he had some good at bats but nothing that consistant.
You are right on about Gomez, in fact, Reyes has even said Gomez is faster than he is. Ever see them run out to the field together at the start of an inning? pretty impresive and damn fun to watch. Have you seen that kid Fernando Martinez?
19 and full of spunk, he is another one to watch.
Who do you think will ultimately be the catcher of the Mets? They seem to be open to a return for Paul LoDuca, whose effort and passion I love...but only if they have no other real choice it appears
Tough question. lo Duca of course wants to come back, but the Mets are holding out. They have other trade options they might be interested in. They have among others, Pelfrey, Humber and Milledge. I don't want to lose Gomez or Fernando Martinez, I think maybe they are looking at Olivo or Laird, but of course neither one is better than Lo Duca. They also have a kid in Minor league AA, Nickeas, I think his name is.
I really want paul back, but The only guy I want if not Lo Duca is Pasada. Castro is coming back too.
I am also wondering what is going to happen at second. Castillo may not be back.
Lastly I want to say one more time, I don't want A-Rod. It is looking more and more now that he will go to the Dodgers. Please LA, TAKE HIM!
Oh and now looks like Mazzilli won't be going with Torre after all, he has now said he wants to stay put, a family thing.
Good points, sonny.I wish I did get to catch Gomez and Reye's running drills before the games, but I didn't get to Shea this past season (Usually in the past years I've caught a couple of games a season). Will definitely try again next season,Shea's last...it seems like watching them race each other is a treat for the fans.
That it is, they have also run the bases together, with Willie laughing his butt off.
If Milledge goes for Santana,I'd be all for that(Humber or Pelfrey as wll would have to go)I would rather have Gomez over Milledge, and hope he can develop with a lot of playing time in left or right(depending on where they use Moises Alou).I've heard of Fernando Martinez, and he's good enough to be ready for 2009 or 2010.Not as much speed as Gomez, but tremendous hitting and power potentials.New York outfield by 2010 of Carlos Beltran,Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez, with Endy Chavez as a fourth outfielder, could be a really good one.
I would not miss Milledge, but I would maybe like to give Pelfrey another shot. He was impressive in spring training, but not so much in the regular season.
I am not too crazy about Castillo, think he has a problematic knee that going beyond two years guaranteed may be a tough order as his defensive range and speed may soon become pretty limited.Go quick and younger there soon, only sign him to a shorter term contract.
Well, he is an all-star, I like what he does as a No. 2 hitter, such as giving himself up, hitting behind the runner and taking pitches. He hit about .300 last season, and was a tough at-bat, he would grind it out. I think he would have done even better had Reyes not slumped in the second half of the season.
I hear what you are sayin about his chronically sore knees, but he did play in 50 of 56 games after the Mets acquired him.
Finally, have you seen the virtual representation of CitiField on the Met's website? What an incredible ballpark and a must go destination that will be the pride of New York and Mets fans for years!![]()
Well,if Chipper were all that great a consistent third baseman, the Braves would not have moved him to the outfield for a few years? He may be playing back at the hot corner, and I love his gamer attitude on the field...but methinks "Larry" is a bit jealous?Last week was a pretty good week for Carlos Beltran and David Wright. They each won Gold Glove honors and today they earned National League Silver Slugger Awards. For Beltran, it was his second consecutive Silver Slugger, while for Wright it was first. Wright and Beltran combined for 75 doubles, 63 home runs and 219 RBI.
They became only the third and fourth Mets players to register a 30-home run and 100-RBI season.Strawberry and Piazza also accomplished that.
Wright hit .325 with 42 doubles, one triple, 30 home runs, 34 stolen bases and 107 RBI. He became the third player in Mets history to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in a season.
Do you get the idea that maybe I like, no, love this dude.
Then there was this crack from Chipper Jones,
“When I found out (Wright won) I was speechless, for quite some time. Certainly the guys with the least amount of errors and best fielding percentage quite obviously didn’t win it…”
“I wouldn’t have been disappointed had someone like Feliz or Ramirez won it. I’m a little confused by the final tally — that’s a head-scratcher for me.”
Well, chop fuckin chop![]()
