I know, I know, it was the wost collapse in baseball history, bla, bla, bla
But I am now and will always be a Mets fan, nothing will ever change that.
I send this message to all my friends that are Mets fans, don't let what happened in 2007 cause you to abandon the team. They gave us a lot of great games, we have watched all the guys grow as a team, and we were there for them thick and thin. Don't forget they held on to first place for all but three days the whole season.

Wear your Mets shirts and hats with pride, look forward to 2008 with excitement and anticipation for a great season and championship.

Looks like we lost Glavin, he has declined his 2008 player option worth
$11 million and instead collected a $3 million buyout.
The decision does not preclude his returning to the Mets, but I think if he decides to continue playing it will be as a Brave.

LET'S GO METS!

A very disappointing way to end the season, but I'll be ready when April rolls around to cheer them on again, been doing since "62. If Glavine leaves, so be it, we need to get Pelfrey and Humbar up to speed, and hopefully someone for the bullpen that can strike someone out for crying out loud!

You are so right about the pen, I dono what the hell happened there.
Maybe Billy Wagner was right when he said, "Rick Peterson does not know how to run a bull pen". It was a lousy thing for him to say publicly, but I was beginning to get concerned about the pitching for a while there.
Pelfrey was hot during spring training and I was glad when he got a spot in the rotation, but he has not produced since. Glavin never really fir in as a Met his best days were as a Brave. Speaking of Wagner, that boy needs to stop blowin saves, Lately, I have been getting a little nervous when he takes the mound, too much drama with the opposing team team getting ahead of him in the count and scoring base hits.
Then we have Reyes who basically crashed and burned in September, he needs to come back focused. He is an amazing athlete capable of doing much better.
Basically they are a good fit, working and playing well as a unit and protecting one another. Perhaps next year Willie will appoint 30-30 man David Wright as captain, he may be young in years but very mature when it comes to supporting and leading the team.

My first Mets game was in 1990, as a 10 year old kid with a love for the game.
My dad took me to Shea to see David Cone pitch, and John Franco close.
I remember seeing Todd Hundley, HoJo, Kevin McReynolds and Kevin Elster.
We went to the shop and dad bought me a Mets cap and jersey.
I was hooked.!

Every Met fan here will join in and appreciate my happiness today.

Phillies lost!!! Fu@#ing Phillies lost!!

The last incredible season ending collapse was in 1964 by the very same Phillies;) I was shocked that both the Cubs and Phillies were swept, but the sweep by the Rockies was especially sweet. The Phils are gonna watch the playoffs at home just like the Mets.I think the Mets play was infectious,as Phillie seemed compelled to do a reasonably credible imitation losing in several different ways, just as heartbreakingly as the Mets did in their collapse.

I think with some adjustments to the roster, getting some grinders who would never play complacent or let slumps affect their overall game..and some middle relief and a proven stabilizing veteran big game starter(Under 35,0f course)the Mets will be primed to get into the playoffs and go for a deep run.Yet as these playoffs have proven, pitching and team ball is as always the best way to get through to the World Series.

Well said Sausy, it will be interesting to see what over the winter.

As for the Mets, Glavin is gone, so I think is Shawn Green, Lo duca wants to come back but the Mets may not want him.
I never have seen one component of a Mets team perform so poorly for so extended a period.
The bullpen was the primary culprit.
Who replaces Glavin? Maybe we could sign Twins Lefty Johan Santana Araque. He is a 2-time American League Cy Young Award winner, but what would the Twins want for him?
The 2007 bullpen was mostly reliable until mid-summer, and then it ran off the road. Part of the problem was the inability of the starters to pitch deep into games, but in that regard, the Mets were no different from other supposedly quality teams.
I thought moving Jorge Sosa to the bullpen was a good move. His performance as a starter had gone south. And he performed well as a reliever for a while. But it was shortly after his move that the 'pen fell apart. Relievers began to complain about how they were used. And it did become more difficult to predict who would step from the bullpen in a given situation

As for the coaches, unless Jerry Manuel is hired away, I don't suppose any change will happen other than Henderson not returning. My impression is that the club had no intention of retaining Henderson as a full-time coach when he was appointed at the All-Star break. I would have thought with all the postseason experience Rickey Henderson had, he could have helped prepare the team a little better. I'm not so sure he had a positive impact on the team, other than helping Wright score 30 stolen bases. I would have thought he would have had a bigger impact on Reyes, who fell apart shortly after Ricky came aboard.
Ho Jo has been very good for David Wright, and the offense was pretty consistent down the stretch. I would like to se HO Jo back in 2008.
Then of course Rick Peterson, who in his four seasons with the Mets, has reinforced his reputation as one of baseball’s top pitching coaches. He rejuvenated Tom Glavine’s career, worked wonders with Oliver Perez and John Maine, and lowered the arm slots of Heilman and Feliciano.

I agree with the decision of Omar Minaya not to fire Willie Randolph. I believe Randolph deserved another chance.

I am looking forward with wild anticipation and enthusiasm to 2008

I have never abandoned my Mets, even in their darkest of times. I won't abandon them now, even though September was an abomination.

Good to see the Yanks choked and collapsed. That gives me a bit of solace. :)

A sad time for NY baseball to be sure.

I gotta admit the Yankees chocking made the Mets loss just a little easier.
I never abandoned them either, they will always be my team.
It's been a week now since that dark Sunday, and I am feeling better about the loss, I am starting to sleep better and take solid foods again. :D

Gee *crickets* haven't heard from any of my Yankee fan friends today :p

Looks like I may have been right about Rickey, The Mets are looking at grabbing Texas hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo who's contract is up at the end of the month.
If that happens, HoJo would go back to his job as first base coach replacing Henderson, and Jaramillo would take over as Hitting coach.
Intreating chain of events since Jaramillo was a front runner for the manager job which of course went to Randolph.
Could he end up replacing Willie in 09? I dono, Rudy says he is happy as a coach, but Wille has got to win at least the NL East next year.

I like the prospect of getting Rudy, we will see.

David Wright has been selected the Sporting News NL third baseman of the year. Overshadowed by the teams collapse is the offense year that Wright compiled in 2007. He is the the third player in Mets history to hit 30 homeruns and steal 30 bases. Wright also maintained an above .300 BA for the year, drove in over 100 RBIs, scored 100 runs and hit over 40 doubles. Those numbers are extremely rare demonstrating a balance of power, speed and consistency.

He really deserves that honor.David Wright has the talent and the desire to always get better, and I would think he would focus on getting more consistent on his throwing next year.Other than him and Carlos Beltran, who despite not being 100% played inspired and passionately during the last couple of months,no one really seemed to take the right lessons from the historic collapse the last two weeks of September.

Yeah his throwing scares me a little, although he did improve in 07.

Still, he made some rather spectacular plays last year and he has gotten very aggressive with his base stealing. Have you ever noticed his eyes when he is on first? he's watching the pitcher, but his eyes dart back and fourth to the catcher trying to catch signs and know what pitches are coming up for the best time to run.
I LOVE THAT!

He's pretty fast but no Jose Reyes, but an incredibly intelligent base runner as even he admits his instincts and awareness are his best assets as a base runner over raw speed.I also love his habit of sticking out his tongue,he seems to do that quite a bit...nothing to do with his baserunning but increases the personal enjoyment of watching him play!;)

Read online that David Wright and bunch of other Va Beach area pros will compete for charity in a home run derby in the Va Beach area. List includes the Upton boys, Ryan Zimmerman, Mike Cuddyer, and others. Would be fun to watch.

He has a cute little routine after every ball. He will tighten his batting gloves, wipe his lip with his shirt and adjust his batting helmet. EVERY TIME!
A lot of the guys have little things they do. Carlos Gomez smells his bat.
David does not have Jose's speed but he has never been picked off by the pitcher.
BTW have you watched Gomez run? he's another Roadrunner, beep beep.

That's my David, (*8*) he is always involved in some sort of charity event or another. in fact he has his Wright Foundation which does a lot for kids with MS among other things.
He did not play in this years Home Run Derby at the All-Star break because he wanted to concentrate on his fielding. last year he came in second and then went into a slump, something he did not want to repeat this year. Sure wish I could see that Va Beach derby

Wright honored by Sporting News

NEW YORK -- The fifth 30-30 season in the history of the Mets and his third straight season producing at least 100 runs batted made David Wright's 2007 special and evidently one held in high regard by his National League colleagues. The Mets third baseman was voted the National League's All-Star third baseman in balloting conducted last month by The Sporting News.
Wright, the lone Mets player voted to the team, led New York in batting with a career-high .325 average, which ranked 13th in the big leagues among players qualifying for the batting title. He scored 113 runs and hit 30 home runs -- both career highs -- and drove in 107 runs. His 42 doubles equaled a career high and were the most by any Mets player this year.

His stolen 34 bases were nine fewer than he had stolen in his 2 1/2 seasons before 2007. Howard Johnson (1987, 1989 and 1991) and Darryl Strawberry had been the only other Mets players to produce a 30-30 season.

Being elected is a first for Wright, who turns 25 in December. In balloting that prohibited players from voting for teammates, he was selected along with Phillies second baseman Chase Utley and center fielder Aaron Rowand, Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder, Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez, Dodgers catcher Russell Martin, Astros left fielder Carlos Lee, Rockies left fielder Matt Holliday and Padres starting pitcher Jake Peavy. Jose Valverde of the Diamondbacks was named the reliever, based on victories and saves, not voting.

Dmitri Young of the Nationals was voted comeback player, and in a balloting by the league's managers, Bob Melvin of the Diamondbacks was elected National League manager of the year.

Chipper Jones of the Braves finished behind Wright, despite batting 12 points higher and producing on-base and slugging percentages that respectively were nine and 58 points higher than Wright's. Jones hit one fewer home run and produced five fewer RBIs and runs in 91 fewer at-bats. Jones stole five bases.

Super babe and Mets 3rd baseman David Wright, will be Jon Stewart's Daily Show tonight (weds)
David will be there to talk about his charity foundation, but I am sure Jon, who is a major Met fan, will have a lot of fun with David. Can't wait.

I'm with Sausy. I love David's tongue action! LOL

I'm in love with David Wright, his love for the game, his determination, and his personality (not to mention he's freakin gorgeous). It's all very admirable. He's one of the few high-profile athletes who I feel is really a role model for the kids. I grew up in the town next to where David grew up. I had some friends who knew him in high school. I'll have to check up on them and see if I can dig up yearbook pics or something! haha.

ANYWAY, looking forward to next season and enjoying Shea Stadium a few more times!

LET'S GO METS!(!)
