Mike Jones outs Ted Haggard

Can I lead the cheer squad for Mike Jones, who has outed Ted Haggard as one of Mike's clients.

Mike has done a very brave and courageous thing in outting such hypocrisy. I am sure he has thought long and hard before doing it. He looks a very serious and very professional man (hunk of a man too ).

He has done us all a great favour in doing what he has done, even though he is going to be scrutinized and investigated to test his veracity.

He has my admiration for sure.

Hey guys, lighten up.... it is very easy for people that claim to be 'free' of the beliefs of organized religion to do whatever they want... there is nothing that holds you back.
What pleasure do you derive from reading about a man that may have done something that his religion forbids or frowns upon? The guy never claimed to be perfect did he? I very much doubt anyone on jub has heard of this guy before this story broke anyway, and why the mainstream media figured it was a major news item and played it up right before a national election is an interesting story in itself.

i figured out arguing with conservatives on JUB is a waste of time but what the hell...yes tonyboy...these guys do claim to be perfect. there are vids of this guy giving anti gay sermons...he's aligned himself with a movement that brands homosexuals as sick and preaches that himself...he also is the major force behind colorado's anti gay marriage amendment which is being voted on tuesday. this is somethin called HYPOCRISY or DO AS I SAY AND NOT AS I DO...that's wrong. and whenever a hypocrite is exposed, those that were his victims are happy...so get a grip. i'm closeted but it doesn't mean i gotta go out and preach against out gays does it? he shoulda kept his fat ugly mouth shut.

Somewhat longer article on Mike Jones from the Denver Post with a few more details on his life and recent events.

Couple of audio files on the left portray Haggard's attempt to get some "stuff". Sounds like he's a regular buyer and not just buying it to throw away as he contends. Of course "stuff" isn't specified and there's no mention of massage services or sex. So the tape's a smoking gun alright but Haggard still has some wiggle room.

I find the whole thing suspicious that he kept voice messages, envelopes, etc... (Like Monica Lewinsky kept her blue dress...) and that he did this just before next week's election. I believe he was paid to do this when he did. I heard on the radio last night that there may be an FBI investigation...

What I thought interesting, in one interview, Haggard, said that he never had gay sex with a man in Denver!! Oh so he did it Boulder, but just not Denver!
Jimmy Kimmel had this on his show last night, of course he had to make fun of it, but over all I got the impression that Haggard was contradicting himself quite a bit!

Well, I for one am at JUB and I'd heard ALL ABOUT Haggard for years prior to this.

Haggard's been the spokesperson for a religious ideology that has caused untold pain and heartache for millions of homosexuals nationwide. His involvement, whatever it is, with a gay male rent-boy is hypocrisy, folks, and an egregious example at that.

From the Colorado Springs Gazette, which I have in front of me, here's a snippet of Haggard's sermon from October 29:

"Father, help us this next week and a half as we go into national elections. Father, we pray that lies would be exposed. We pray that deception would be exposed."

I think that this community needs better role models, I do not see this as a victory of gay people, it is just a lost for the evangelicals, but nothing more. This just reinforces the ideas that they preach about, that we are sinners with our decaying lifestyles.

I think that's true, numerobis, particularly among the many of Haggard's followers who are very sheltered and afraid of modernity in general. Many of those folks don't personally know anyone who's openly gay and well-adjusted and live in abject fear of homosexuals. This will only feed their fear.

There's a much larger number of people, though, who aren't so sheltered or fearful and who know the gay world comes in all dimensions, from the sleazy to the beautiful. Those folks may very well see the sadness and absurdity in this whole story.

If this is true, then I kind of feel bad for Haggard. Imagine living inside an evangelical bubble all your life, all the while knowing that you are gay. Think of all the self-denial, lies, and pressure to lead a "straight" life to appear normal to your religious community. I think that would be enough to make a person go crazy.

Cheer all you want, but all Mike did be coming out with this story five days before the election is probably going to make us lose our attempt at Domestic Partnerships. Yep, one of the votes on the ballot on Tuesday is Referendum I which, if passes allows us at least something here in Colorado. We did have a lead, but now it is sounding like we might lose the vote. If so, I put the whole blame on Jones and as far as I am concerned he won't be leading any parades for me.
I do agree that Haggard should be exposed for what he did, but the timing (Jones has said it was totally politically motivated) is going to set us back 10 years at least I am afraid.
Do I admire the guy, nope not what so ever. I'm not a fan of the evangelical right, but this makes us look no better than they are. It's sad more than anything. I don't feel sorry for Haggard one bit, but I do feel for his wife and kids though. They don't deserve this. I also feel sorry for those in the Colorado gay community who were counting on Referendum I passing for them and their partners, and now may not get the chance to see this happen. Thanks Mike, thanks a whole hell of a lot! Oh yeah, and next time, try and pass that lie detector test, it might help you believability just a bit!
