This is the first forum I've been on where some people DO have pics of themselves as their avatars!

I wish I could come up with a clever or witty reason why I chose my avatar. Really...I just like showing off my ass.

JUB's forums serve as a way to exchange ideas, not to serve as a hook-up site.

I have never thought of this as a hookup site. Personally, I like to see who I am talking to or debating with, that's all.

Just as an observation, in general I would say that there is more rudeness in the forums from people who do not show their faces than from those who do.

On the other hand, a lot of the replies here have presented good arguments as to why an avatar should be non literal and I appreciate that.

I never looked at forum avatars as personal identifiers. I use them to portray certain symbolism or a message.

Most forums I've been on its pretty common that allot of people don't use themselves as their avatar.
Personally the last thing I'd want to see is myself stareing back at me on every post I make
I also don't want my pic out there (esp on on a site where if the wrong person came across it......)

Granted my current avatar is me...but:
* there's nothing recognizable about me in it.
* I plan to change it sometime soon anyway...

There is no such thing as a gay or straight message board. Message boards are either well written or badly written. That is all.

And even "straight" messageboards can be made gay if you give them enough alcohol and play your cards right.
