Most Memorable Sporting Moment?

Lex: great post. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Great to see lacrosse in the Sports Forum. I played it once - outside - at Uni here in the UK, and got knocked out!!! A memorable sporting moment in my young life!;)

When Luke Skywalker finally used The Force and blew up the Death Star. Amazing!

Oh sorry, wrong thread.

It was when good ol' Aussie Greg Welch won his first Ironman Triathlon in 1996. Certainly inspired me to get into the sport.

The Dallas Stars winning the Stanley Cup in 1999.

Gotta agree. I can still remember exactly what I was doing at 2 in the freakin morning watching that game.

I thought for sure Buffalo was going to end up scoring. Yay for Brett Hull.

Ha. I actually had just closed my eyes for a couple of seconds and reopened then when Hull put the puck into the back of the net. After that, I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night. LOL.

I would have to put this very recent final play up there among the best sports moments of all time - with a mere two seconds left on the clock, Trinity College pulled out a surprise victory playing on Millsap College's field in Jackson, Mississippi. This was on 27 October 2007.

Fifteen lateral passes, and one of the guys held the ball four times in this final play, which went on for A FULL MINUTE after the clock ran out.

I was watching on TV as the old Soviet Olympic basketball jauggernaut defeated the USA coached by Hand IBA after time had expired. It was a stolen game.

But it was coached by one of two USA university coaches I most admired. The man was Coach Hank Iba. I knew him from one of his coaching camps and loved him. I was an emotional wreck. I thought of him as a father figure and a role model.
Shep+ the one time college basketball coach.

Steve Yzerman hoisting the Cup for the first time in 1997, then in '98, and again in '02. A close second is the Spartans winning the NCAA National Championship last year in men's hockey.

Secretariat winning the 73 Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths, to win the Triple Crown

And Barbaro's accident, at the start of the Preakness, two years ago.

For me at least was when Jeff Kent hit the walk off homerun in the 2004 NLCS for the Houston Astros. Sadly they lost the next two games to the Stl. Cards...

This play was more amazing than the Stanford-Cal one! The announcers were freaking!

George Brett
Jamie Quirk
Dan Quisenberry
Frank White
Darrell Porter
Bo Jackson
Hal McRae
Freddie Patek
Amos Otis
John Mayberry
Willie Wilson
Al Cowens

Dick Howser
Charlie Lau

.....just to name a few off the top of my head.

Thursday night cheap seats---$2 for the upper deck
Sweeping the Yankees for the ALCS

Hey George, if you're reading this, can you confirm or deny those old rumors about you and JQ?
grew up in KC and ALWAYS heard it was George Brett and Clint Hurdle...they DID ship ole CLINT outta town pretty quick after an "incident" at the Liberty Memorial Mall

Crossing the finish line before the others is a moment I shall never forget!

Hingis - Graf, French Open final 1999.

Denise Bielleman's creation and performance of her self-named Bielleman spin in ice figure skating.

The Music City Miracle....I was there and it was electric....and yes Buffalo, it WAS a lateral!
