I'm not sure I even want a funeral, or memorial.

But I have a long time friend--when he dies, I hope after I do, but if not--I want to sing "You are My Sunshine", because he is/was always that to me....

I never really gave it much thought, but since I fully intend to have a Mass of Christian Burial in the Roman Catholic Church, (I was born Catholic, and I intend to be buried as one), I want something dignified and pretty traditional.....

Processional (as they roll my casket in) -"Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring"

After the Eulogy-"On Eagle's Wings"

Communion-"The Prayer of St. Francis" ("Make Me A Channel of Your Peace")

Recessional (as they roll the casket out)- "Going Home" (I think that's the right name of the song...not sure)

No it is not morbid as the original post to start the thread suggests, it is a matter of caring and tidyness. Like you Ronboy (we must be brothers of the heart). I am an Anglilcan and a priest to boot and I want a traditional service. I like beginnings and endings to be tidy.

If a suitable organist is found, it will start with a rousing playing of Buxtehude's "Tocata in F" and it will end with a bagpiper playing "Amazing Grace" and no singing as I am wheeled out, for I chaplain the Police and Firefighters.

Within the body of the Requiem Mass with my body traditionally at the foot of the altar with a white pall, I will want to have two particular hymns sung: an English hymn, "I Know Not Where the Road May Lead I Follow Day by Day" and "Jerusalem, My Happy Home".

There will be no eulogy, it is not our tradition, instead I have instruction for a brief preaching of the gospel about the Lord. And yes, I leave nothing to have to be guessed about what I would like or not like, there are fourteen pages of details, mostly things not to be done.

I expect to be cremated after the burial service and then at a time of the family's choosing my ashes will be interred in a niche in the frame of the church. I suggest people can do a loving act by leaving written instructions, and also know and allow that strong willed people who survive us will do what they believe is best or want done.

so, i finally made up my mind. i want my funeral to be a celebration that lasts as long as all my music does. Basically i want everyone to dance and sing along with all 8+ days of my music. I think that'd be the most awesome way to go.

So...my music is almost at 22 days worth now. A big step from the 8-ish days I had before. I still like the idea though. I guess people might get tired of partying after a while, however. I suppose i should choose about 10-18 hours of music so that people don't pass out at the celebration. i guess i will eventually.
