Just wanted to know what everyone's opinion on Islam and Muslims is? I am actually quite uncomfortable about the whole thing, probably more so than how I feel about Christianity. Part of the reason is the violent nature of the religion, how they insist on forcing their ways on Western culture (Europe is currently engulfed by Islam and is in trouble of becoming a Muslim nation), and also because of how homophobic most Muslims are (probably more so than Christians I believe). I personally do not believe that America should be engulfed by Islam like Europe has, as it is essentially a Christian nation and I, even though I am not a strict Christian, believe that America should remain this way.

Now, on the other hand, I obviously have my own feelings about homosexuals being outcasts in America, seeing as I am gay myself, and that allows me to understand how Muslims must feel being persecuted in the United States. The problem with this still is that I do not think that Islam is a very accepting religion when it comes to Western culture and homosexuality whatsoever, much less so than the majority of Americans, even in its current state with large parts of the States still being anti-gay. This will cause a problem in the future, as it has done in Europe, where many Muslims are allowed to speak hate speech in their mosques. I have nothing against Muslims and I do not think they should be persecuted for their religion, but I do think the Western would should be VERY, VERY wary of Islam as a religion and a culture as a whole... man I probably sound like Sarah Palin right now lol.

I dunno, just try being gay in a Muslim country.

Come back to us later....

Actually, part of the reason gays are currently being persecuted in Britain is because of Muslims and their anti-gay sentiment.

The thing that makes me laugh is if a Westerner went to a Muslim country and tried to practice Christianity or another Western idea, they wouldn't be accepted, and in the worse case, they could be killed. I know pork is pretty much banned in most Muslim countries, and is only sold on the underground. Stuff like this makes me mad, because Muslims want us to serve Halal meat in mainstream restaurants e.g. KFC (an American company, largely Christian based). So yeah, it does make me feel uncomfortable.

Its strange because I don't feel uncomfortable about homosexuality, seeing as I am gay, although I do have hangups about the behavior of some gay people within the community, but I feel that way about most sub cultures I guess. I'll explain how I sometimes feel uncomfortable about certain things within the gay community if anyone wants to know ;) Anyway, would like to know what people think.

Like the southern baptist white christians aren't trying to force their beliefs on everyone in the country and other countries?

If you are trying to get up a hate discussion about Islam, I'm not sure how this has anything to do with Current Events or Politics.

Maybe the Mods could move this to Religion?

I didn't know there was a religion part of the forum otherwise I would have posted this there. Why would I be trying to start a hate discussion when I asked everyone's opinion. I can still put my opinion forth can I not? If you don't have anything important to add to this discussion then please don't bother dude.

You don't sound like Sarah Palin. Actually, you sound like Bill Maher. I've only really heard statistics about the spread of Islam in Britain, I'm not too sure about other individual European nations, but I doubt it in some countries.

Anyway, I don't have any problems with Muslims in the US, unless they're radical. And if they do indeed "engulf" the country... well, they need to get in line because we can only destroy one majority religion at a time, and even that is taking too long.

A lot of Muslims that I have met are the nicest people I have ever met, but I still have my hangups about the religion. I guess I feel the same way about any organized religion. I myself, am actually quite moderate on a lot of topics, but at the same time am very liberal when it comes to stuff like sex. Anyway, I will leave this topic for now and see how many people respond tomorrow. Just so people know though, I am not against Muslims as a whole, but I guess some of my ideals causes me to have hangups. Guess its my upbringing and stuff. Surprisingly I don't actually have any gay male friends either lol. I'm obviously not homophobic, but I do have issues with some stuff that goes on within the gay community. I do want more gay friends one day though... OK rambling. I'll check back here tomorrow.

p.s. I guess I do sound like Bill Maher.

It has been suggested that this thread would be better fit in this forum than CE&P, where it originated. indeed, the OP himself has stated he would have paced it here had he realised this forum was here, so I have moved it.

Please note that with Religion etc' being a No Flame Zone the expectation is that this thread be treated in that way.

You have a lot of Muslim friends, who are the nicest of people, you have ever met.

Yet you have hangups over Islam!!! And you feel the same way towards organised religion.

You confirm that you are gay, and therefore not homophobic, but have issues with some stuff that goes on within the gay community.

I quote your words:

Surprisingly I don't actually have any gay male friends either

I'll reserve my comments for another day.

I didn't say I had Muslim friends, I don't. I have had acquaintances though. I don't have gay male friends for several reasons I won't go into now, but I have lesbian friends. I don't have to answer to you dude. If I say I have hangups with the religion then thats that, and if I say I have a few hangups with the gay community, then thats that too. Just because I'm gay doesn't mean have to say I agree with everything that gay people do now does it? Oh, and if you have something to say, just say it man, but if its bullshit, then say nothing.

WTF?

Yeah, the Baptists are really on the march, huh?

Seriously, haven't heard squat from them in ages....

I note that you are confused.

I do personally feel that men should be masculine for the most part, well at least an individual shouldn't act feminine just because they are gay, which is something that happens OFTEN. I am not cool with the barebacking thing, and think gay people should take personal responsibility for their health, and it makes me angry that so many gay people think its OK to just catch AIDS because "I'll get it eventually."

This could be the most presumptuous thing I've read... ever. My how you know so much about people who aren't you.

Oh thank God this got moved.

Although now I'm thinking it should be relocated to Coming Out and Relationships.

What do I think of Muslims? I don't know; I haven't met all of them yet. I'll give it a go after I've finished getting to know everyone who calls themself Christian, atheist, hindu...it's definitely on my to do list, okay?

Are you kidding with that? The only reason the fanatic Christians in the US aren't stringing us all up is that they don't control our government. Yet.

but there are plenty of attitudes in this country that tell all of us that if we get crucified to a fence, we deserved it because your murderer said you hit on him.

If you don't' see that, I have to say that's just willful blindness. There is a ton of anti gay bigotry here, from the police, to the guy down the block, and while we are making progress, it's not because Christians are so accepting.

The reason we're not in the same place as Iran, is because - thanks to our religiously suspicious founding fathers, Christian fanatics haven't found a way around the constitution.

Radical Christians and radical Muslims have the exact same opinion of you.
