NEW ORLEANS - A larger-than-life replica of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smoking a crack pipe was featured front and centre in a Mardi Gras parade float sending up headline-grabbing Canadian celebrities.

The "Canadian Club" float ribbed Ford for his admitted drug use, and sported mockup Toronto Star newspaper headlines blaring "Mayor Ford: 'So I smoked a little crack'" and "I was in a drunken stupor."

I'm hearing he couldn't get onto the red carpet, which just sucks. I was hoping he'd make a spectacle. I'm sure we'll hear all about it after he gets shit-faced with Hollywood royalty tonight.

Ford will appear on Kimmel’s show on Monday. The city’s code of conduct for members of council prohibits many kinds of gifts, and airfare and hotel stays from Kimmel would represent a possible violation. Doug Ford said he is sure everything was above-board. He added: “As long as the taxpayers aren’t paying, it doesn’t matter.”

Disgraced former Co-op Bank chairman Paul Flowers has spoken for the first time since his arrest over drugs allegations, saying: "I have sinned."

The Methodist minister, who stepped down from the bank last summer, told BBC Newsnight some of his "frailties" had been exposed in the public domain.
 
Why has the news so totally died down about him, or is there still plenty of news in Canada? Aren't there some investigations going on? Is he still polling well enough that he could actually win re-election?

I thought the United States had a monopoly on flocking to the polls to re-elect crooks and scumbags. NOT! (It seems to be global.)
 
He's in full-blown campaign mode now, and the Jimmy Kimmel thing seems to have opened his eyes to the fact that Kimmel was laughing at him, not with him. He's still being investigated, but Ford lost his ammunition against Police Chief Bill Blair when Blair removed himself from the equation. Blair and the Toronto police are still investigating, but Blair asked the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) to take over the duty of handling examination of the results. Everyone reports to the OPP now and not to Blair. Previously, Ford turned the entire investigation into a circus as well, challenging Blair like a bully in a school playground.

Ford claims that he has saved the City of Toronto over a billion dollars, but nobody knows how, and he ain't sayin'. He has also been pushing for a controversial subway extension into Scarborough which will result in the biggest tax increase in the city's history if the extension goes through.

He talks the talk, but he can't walk the walk.

I read it yesterday and I had nightmares of being chased around Toronto by a Ford Escort.

In case you don't know they consider themselves the Canadian Kennedy's. I always thought that was the Trudeau's but but hey if the crack users want to use that name more power to them.
