TORONTO - Rob Ford will take a leave of absence from his re-election campaign to seek help for substance abuse, his lawyer said Wednesday.

Dennis Morris said the Toronto mayor "realizes he needs help for substance abuse," but would not say which substance his client is seeking treatment for or what steps he will take.

"In my eyes, he should announce those steps to the public in the near future," Morris said.

The Toronto Sun reports Ford will nonetheless remain on the ballot for the Oct. 27 mayoral election.

Below is a transcript of an audio tape obtained by the Toronto Sun that they say captures Rob Ford speaking at a bar. Parts of the tape are inaudible and the other speaker has not been identified.

Sounds like Ford: “. . . f------ flag up ahead of our Canadian flag. I said no . . . bulls---. Then they said they went to Queen’s Park and Tim Hudak comes out and said I agree with all the gays . . . That’s it. I lost my conservative values . . .

(inaudible)

“. . . No, they went. The gay organization goes to Queen’s Park . . . At Queen’s Park you have to have every member to vote for. No, no, no, Tim says you know what I think that’s right . . . Right there, he lost my vote.

“I can’t vote Liberal because I don’t like what Wynne is doing, not because she’s gay or not, I just don’t like corruption. NDP, I’m just not left wing. I am like Tim Hudak, but I can’t, I won’t put a sign up . . . I might have to vote Green, I don’t know what the f--- I’m going to vote now. I have to vote something, but I’m absolutely going to vote. I’m probably going to vote Green because guy didn’t say a f------ word . . .”

I really think this a set up since The Toronto Sun broke the story and Joe Warmington involved. They are trying to white wash his addiction and other issues he has. Good thing Toronto has three other daily papers. I don't know why they are doing it but it will come out some day.

They don't seem to realise that, despite his claims of saving the city over a billion dollars, he offers no evidence of it except for his claims, and experts are able to find only about $3.5 million. Apparently former mayor David Miller did that. He might have saved a few bucks here and there, but what has he really cost the city?
 
Exactly!! People fail to realise that as a destination for business trips and convetions, the numbers are way down as toronto is seen as a joke now. The damage he has caused this city is considerable.
 
When Rob Ford said he could run as a Republican in the U.S., he wasn't kidding.
He "saves" money by gutting any and all safety nets and appeals to the bigotry of voters to make himself popular.
Just like many Republicans, all he's really done is hurt more people then he's helped while making his city a laughingstock.
 
According to this morning's news, he's in Chicago for treatment. It's a rather exclusive facility, but it will be interesting to see how long he lasts. He will be living by their rules, not his. The first phase is a 30-day run. I don't think he'll make it before he gives up and checks himself out and comes running back home.

Whatever the outcome, he has no intention of stepping down as mayor, nor does he have any intention of backing out of the mayoral race. The man is delusional.
