My mother, God rest her soul, always told me to take a shower/bath and to put on clean underwear before I left the house in case of an accident ..
She also told me to always be kind to the elderly as I would be elderly someday ...
Then there was ... Always use proper manners etc ... and others that I cannot remember at this time ..

My Mom once called me a son of a bitch.....??? I laughed and said she would know.

When I asked her to do something for me or wait on me.
Usually followed by "Get it yourself." or "Do it yourself." - I should've included that.

Frankly, my mother is quite notorious. It wouldn't be polite to tell you what she always tells me.

The wisdom of a Sicilian woman knows no bounds.......

• put on a fresh pair of underwear everyday
• wash your hands after you blow your nose
• never eat the last piece or portion of any food on the table (it's impolite...this is what we used to call Politica degli Siciliani or Sicilian Politics, at our house)
• If the last piece is offered to you, and nobody else wants it, then it's okay to eat it.
• always sort laundry by whites, light colors, dark colors, and towels.
• say your prayers each night
• always kiss your relatives when you see them (unless you or they have colds)
• Sunday is family day, don't make any social plans...
• always vote Democrat (she was always a loyal Democrat)
• FDR was the greatest US President
• The first is the worst, the last is the best (what she would always tell me when I would get down about losing something)

There were many more little things like that. Not a day goes by that I don't think of one of her little lessons in life. And not a day goes by that I do not miss her.

I also got the "clean underwear" thing from Mom ... "just in case".

What wasn't seemed to be grasped was ... if I did have an accident (or "something" happened) ... the odds were pretty high that I'd "soil" them, anyway!!
