  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

My neighbor has a confederate flag.

Awesome. Now everyone knows who the racist or dumb ass to avoid lives. Representing the Confederate flag speaks for itself, no need to even question why they have one.

Not to be awkward and pedantic, but can someone explain to me what a confederate flag is? !oops!

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's the south's flag during the civil war. And like some hardcore rednecks in the south put it up to I don't express that they wished they had won the war...or believe in the south's ideals for the war.

But like I said....we live in New York, even back then we still used the regular flag.

They have it facing towards me. As soon as I get some money, I'm getting a gay pride flag just to spite them.

Are you good at arts & crafts? I think a nice window diorama depicting the burning of Atlanta might be just the thing.

Can you mount speakers on the outside of the window? Listening to The Battle Hymn Of The Republic is always a great way to end the day.

I've just been playing a lot of loud Lady GaGa and having my super faggy friends over for fruity cocktails on my porch.

Does your neighbor have teeth in his mouth?
and does he drive a ford bronco or any type of pick-up truck?

If so, approach with caution. I've seen these types on
the Discovery Channel. They can be a unsavory bunch
when they're out of their native environment. Don't feed them, and Don't pet them, they could have rabies!!

HOLY SHIT!!! I'm not even kidding.

Didn’t you just move into a trailer park? I mean, what did you expect?

Anyway, if you go out of your way to antagonize your neighbors, . . . well. . . you’ll fit right in, of course. . . but you’d best never leave your home unattended.

I'm a gay guy living in a trailer park in redneck New York, I'm not going to fit in either way. I might as well have some fun with it.

You sure your neighbor isn't KrisHawkXXX? If so, he probably just hung it to see what your reaction might be to it. An experiment of sorts. If you're offended by it then that's your neighbor's way of knowing that you are indeed not a racist. ..|

Yeah, that's why one would post a flag that represents seperatism, intolerance and oppression.

But to say that the person who hung the flag is racist.... Noooo, that's crazy thinking. [-X It's just a test, that's all.

Buy the biggest gay pride poster you can find and place it in a window that faces his house.

That's pretty much the plan. I really don't know anything about them at all, but If I'm going to have to look at their symbol every day, I might as well respond in kind.

Plus our flag is really pretty...my place could use a lot of color.

I am a very proud gay man living in New England and I have a rebel flag on the wall of my parlor. Been there for years. Folks who fly the rebel flag are usually not flying it because they are racist ass-holes. It stands for things like states rights and the rights of individuals.

It hangs right next to my revolutionary war flag saying "Don't tread on me".

Well our rebellion about state's rights was mostly to do with the enslavement of people that we kidnapped, brought over, beat, raped, and murdered for a good long while. I'm all for a little rebelling...but I think would could find a better example if that's all it was about.

Kenny.

Gays don't live in trailers, tin cans or wobbly boxes.

They reside in factory manufactured housing in environmentally conscious

designated areas custom designed to lessen the impact on Mother earths core.

Didn't the representative explain this to you before handing over the keys to

your new socially aware environment?

On your other issue.. go to crafts store get appropriate colors of crepe or

construction paper and make a Pride banner....inexpensive and will be

renewable as applicable when/if necessary.....No thanks are needed, I am

here to help.

In the mid 1800's, the United States split into two separate countries, the United States of America in the North and the Confederate States of America in the South. One of the reasons this split occurred was the Confederate's desire for slaves, prominently native Africans and their descendants.

Thus in modern day, the Confederate flag seems to represent conservative white men and women in the South; these people often are against gay rights and homosexuals in general.

Thus, the OP is viewing their neighbor's flag as a symbol of hatred.

Not an accurate description. In the mid 1800s, the United States began working to outlaw slavery. Some of the Slaveholder States rebelled, claiming they had formed the Confederate States of America. This rebellion was successfully put down by the legal government of the United States, and as a result there is no legal slavery anywhere in North America.

The Confederate Flag was revived as an explicitly racist symbol during the Civil Rights struggle in the US; it became the flag of those opposed to racial integration in schools and public accommodations. The message of the Confederate Flag any time since about 1964 is "those [N word]s should still be our property, and they certainly are NOT our equals."

The neighbor's flag IS a symbol of hatred. These days its message of hatred has been expanded to include other beliefs of stupid, bigoted losers, including but not limited to homophobia.

They have it facing towards me. As soon as I get some money, I'm getting a gay pride flag just to spite them.

Or a giant picture of Dr. Martin Luther King. Or Abraham Lincoln. Or Sherman.

Any of these should have flowers under them, like a shrine.

Can you mount speakers on the outside of the window? Listening to The Battle Hymn Of The Republic is always a great way to end the day.

There are other triumphalist Union songs too, but that's probably the most easily recognizable.

My old neighbor had a confederate flag.

I'm CANADIAN.

Awwwwwwwkward. He moved away. Never did find out what was up with it, as far as I knew he was born and raised Canadian. Maybe he had relitives or ancestors that were from the South? Meh.

Or maybe he just liked the look of it and had no idea what it meant.

Or maybe he was just a racist. It's probably the most explicitly racist symbol you can legally display in Canada. The swastika flag (the next most racist) is probably a violation of Canadian hate crimes laws.
