As for myself, I escaped getting thieved on by women, and the only little trick played on me was from this good-looking hot dude who started making me a wristband on my arm. I didn't object. When he was finished and it was tied tight so I couldn't remove it, he asked for some money. I gave him some.

I've been in Italy 5 times, for a total of nearly 3 months, and have never, ever, had a problem. Sounds like she stuck out like a sore thumb, banged by a hammer, as a tourist.

Also she probably didn't read any tourist advice/guide. They ALL warn you about two things regarding pickpockets in italy:

riding the bus
crowded places

by the way, same advice is valid for prague, too.

Most Americans stick out like a sore thumb in Europe which is tragic. It's always the LA uber-privileged pissing and moaning on a train about how they need (and therefore expect) someone to help them on-board all of their luggage (11 bags/pieces) for their 10 day trip.

I've only ever taken one roller bag (TOTAL) 18" x 29" x 8" on my various 3 week trips anywhere in the world. If I've needed more due to surfboard, waterskis, snow skis, etc... then all of that gear has gone into baggage. Even at the most loaded down I can be, I still only have 2 roller bags full, while the average 17 year old, valley girl or Japanese girl is hauling 75 lbs. of baggage if not more.
