Small steps, that's all it takes. I dont do the calorie counting, but if you want I will post weight and weight lifting, just to have something to actually post.

Antoine,

good luck with your diet in the coming year. and do keep us posted as to how you are progressing.

i should be following you but it is a serious issue for me](*,)](*,)

Happy New Year Wishes.

regards,

eM, michael:(

I just know you're going to make it. And I really want to watch the journey.

I could....but it's really boring to do it alone. I need a side kick like Batman. =/

OMG I know! I will throw away my last bite of food at every meal as punishment and scream "I DONT NEED YOU!"

That would be my first step to motivation.

As agreed via PM I will join you. I am of normal size but come from a family where men get pot bellies (some quite huge). I have a Micheline Tire now and plan to loose it. This means 20 lbs.

Dieting will be a factor but I am afraid, exercise is a must and lots of it. Thank God for skiing.

I know you will make it and I will joing your thread weekly for the ups and downs (no pun intended) of my battle.

Good Luck to you.

stop eating crap

but eat as much healthy food you can get.

that's your diet

and work out

Hi, I just wanted to say good luck on your new journey. i'm sure you'll be just fine.

I'm hoping to embark on a similiar journey, cleaning up my diet a bit and cutting out the booze.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, you're all going to have to give up anything and everything with fructose and msg. Period.

And refined starches.

And you're going to have to commit to living this lifestyle for the rest of your days, including getting off your asses from in front of a computer screen and getting out there and getting some real exercise.

OK, Antidoll, Sunshine, Hax, Endlight, and everyone else who's going to embark on this adventure.

Why not post a full body pic of your current state, not a naked pic, but one in shorts or boxers. Then, each week you post another pic, so you can record your progress. I know it's pressure, but if you can see your and each other's progress, it may give you the push to continue.

OTOH, if your progress is not as good as the other's, time to tweak your diet or excercize regime.

You can do it. As someone said, stop eating crap and fast food (especially bread, cookies, cake, doritos, pasta and stuff like that) and eat lots of healthy food, like fruits, and tons of veggies (especially fibrous veggies), and you'll see the kilos drop in no time.

I agree with you Culete, I gave up all deserts and fat foods, read anything fried, three years ago. I eat 99% of the time Japanese, with lots and lots of veggies and fruits, fresh fruits.

The only meat that cross these beautiful lips, lol, are chicken breasts, pork loins and salmon steaks. What must go, are the pop, yes even the no calorie ones with aspertame, and I must get reacquainted with huge quantities of water.

The key for me is to exercise since my enemy is my inherited metabolism.

Think of me as an hourglass without the top round portion. OK maybe not as bad, but in my mind that's what it is. Without this small, well not so small belly, all my clothes would be Medium as they have been for years now!

I will succeed......yes siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir!

As for photos, I could not produce one without the aid of photoshop.

Stay tuned.

many good points rareboy.

I challenge however your observation concerning getting off my ass in front of a computer screen. Feel free to join me on my bowling team, three ski days per week and some evening skating on the canal, this month.

I am always amazed that people equate putting on some weight, to laziness and lack of exercises. Middle age maybe, metabolism maybe, and 15-20 lbs is not a truckload, you know. Although I concur with some of your points.

stay cool!

Just to clarify, some of the most popular artificial sweeteners on the market today are:

Splenda (sucralose)
Aspartame
Saccharine
Acesulfame Potassium (aka - acesulfame K)

These artificial sweeteners are used in abundance in almost every "diet" drink, "lite" yogurts, puddings, and ice creams, most "low-carb" products, and almost all "reduced-sugar" products. Heck, even most protein powders are loaded with artificial sweeteners too (just look on the ingredients and you'll usually see one or more of them).

Splenda is probably one of the worst offenders of claiming to be "healthy" as they say that it's made from real sugar, Splenda is actually a chemically modified substance where chlorine is added to the chemical structure, making it more similar to a chlorinated pesticide than something we should be eating or drinking.
The truth is that artificial sweeteners are not even close to being healthy, and can easily be just as bad for you, if not worse, than sugar or corn syrup. Most people think that they are doing something good for themselves by choosing the "diet" drinks or "lite" yogurts compared to the sugar-laden versions, but the problem is that you're exposing yourself to a whole new set of problems with the artificially sweetened drinks and foods. artificial sweeteners save you calories, but there's growing evidence that they can increase your appetite for sweets and other carbohydrates causing you to eat more later in the day anyway. Therefore, you don't really save any calories at all. Also, studies have shown that artificial sweeteners can stimulate high insulin levels in your body too, which again can promote fat storage.

there are other health issues that have been related to artificial sweeteners in scientific studies as well ..which I cannot remember right now will have to check.

The best thing to do when you get an urge to eat is ..drink water..or keep veggies like brussel sprouts , carrots etc. at hand boil em and eat them. I have seen my friend battle with weight last year when he lost 26 kgs ...and in a very healthy way too..so now I know almost most of the things needed to lose weight!

The problem with losing weight is keeping it off. I have also made a resolution to lose some weight, and I hope that all of us on this trip can stick to it. A couple of weeks ago, I started eating more salads. I stop by the grocery and pick up a bags of fresh spinach leaves, broccolis florets, cauliflower florets, and baby carrots. I make a big salad from them that is almost enough for a meal. I can get maybe 4 days of salads from the bags. Salad dressings are full of calories (and sodium). So I go easy on the dressing and sprinkle 2 or 3 teaspoons of white vinegar over the top for a little extra kick.
