Need Motivation To Lose Weight?!

Well... Went to the Doc's on Saturday. Told me that it was a cold/chest cold and that it should start clearing up soon. And he didn't recommend anything except Dimetapp for the cough... I am so screwed. And not the way I like it.

EternalDarkness, I think you mean the actuall island, Hawai'i. You'll enjoy it there. I lived there for a couple of years, but I think I was on Maui, not Hawai'i.... Either way, you'll enjoy it. :)

I always jumped straight to the Hot Topics or Entertainment threads

I'm hurt!! All of the fun people are here in Health. J/k... kind of.

Enjoy the trip eternaldarkness. I just got back from a week long trip and I'll say that working out while on a trip is VERY hard for me. I didn't do it at all.... and so then I have to start over which sucks, but I'm getting used to it as I traveled quite a bit this year.

Well, I tried riding a bike and it was an accident waiting to happen! I'm glad there aren't any pics! I think I'm just joining a gym.

hehehe...talking about accidents waiting to happen...

My trip was fun and very nice but I had a little accident. My family and I was hiking the 5 miles hike across the lava rocks to see the lava flowing down the volcano. It was getting pretty dark rather quickly so we decided to head back instead of going further. I was rushing, slipped, and fell down a small gap/hole.

The rocks was sharp and rough, not only did it SHAVE off most of my leg hair, it gave me long deep scratches from the knee down.

It has been 4 days since the accidents and with the help of antibiotics and neosporins ointments, my leg is healing. Right now I have big scabs everywhere. Walking around hurts like hell, I just wish I can heal faster so I can start doing something again. I've been wanting to go to the beach to swim or play tennis but I can do none of that!

Like I told you, accidents awaiting to happen, I am just regretting not thinking about putting on a pair of jeans to hike instead of shorts!!! hehehe (who wear long jeans to hike anyway, duh!)

by the way, the big island is referred to the actual island called "big island" of hawaii. It is the biggest out of all the islands in hawaii and where the active lava flow of Kilauea volcano is located. I'm living in Honolulu, which is located on the island of Oahu. Its a big confusion sometimes, just ignored what I just said.

snapcat...

If you feel joining a gym is better, then go on ahead. I do have to agree that there are much more exercise equipments to use at a gym than at home.

The last time I rode a bike was 4 years ago. I had such a bad fall that ended up with my back being twisted so badly I coudln't sit up or stand up straightly for atleast 2 weeks. I still remember that part...hehehe..

Travis, I am so glad for you. I can't wait to see you look better and feel better once you start getting closer to your weight goal. 145 is also the weight goal I was aiming for.

I checked out a lot of your pictures and I have to say this...
You look hot and very cute! Very very handsome too...hehehe.

By the way,

Happy Birthday!

(in case you're wondering..myspace.)

I just came across this Forum today, I normally skip down to the stories lol. I thought it was interesting that i noticed it today, because i have resently changed my eating and exersize habbits. I dont want to call it a Diet, thats too temperary, its more of a Change of Lifestyle. I read this book called Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type. Its really interesting and it tells how different blood types digest food differently. And it was just my luck that i have to give up red meet. So no more Fillet Minion, which i will miss the most. But i can still have Salmon, which is awswome b/c i love Salmon Shashimi. Well back to the topic. My new eating plan is rly strick, and i like it, For breakfast i usually Honey and Oats in Soy milk, and then lunch is a salad with some kind of fruit and a home made Greek style dressing. and then i eat a small snack between lunch and dinner, usually a slice of bread with peanut butter or something, and then Salmon, or Tofu meet alternatives for dinner, with veggies, and rice. Its been a week so far and its been alot better than i expected, I'm also running a couple miles every night, and doing sit-ups and push-ups to build my stomach and arm muscles up, I'm going to start lifting wieghts after i get my wieght down a bit. I have a big fram and i would look strange if i were too skinny, so i hope to tone it up, I dont want to look like a body builder or anything, i think muscles that are too big look gross, but I want to be decently buff, so after i lose my fat i'll eat stuff to help build muscles. I just hope i can stick too it....

Hmm...I just reached a milestone !

I am currently at -20 lbs (9kg) !! Yay ! :D

Endlessnight500, thank you for your advice on the book. I am sure that title reference will be a lot useful for all of us. Wow, running a couple of miles everynight and doing sit-ups and pushups...you are just wonderful! To be honest with you, I can never run or do that much exercise. I'll run, but like 2 times a week, 3 the most..I rarely do situps or pushups...sometimes never. Eating...I haven't been doing too good on eating at all. :(

I understand what you mean by too big of muscles. I like the lean and muscular look, not the bodybuilder type. For some reason, whenever I see them I can't help but noticed how oddly weird their face and head look with their body. When the body muscles are too big, they look out of porportions.

LUMINOX!! Wow! how did you do that so quickly? Amazing, when you said you're fighting to lose every ounce of fat..you are actually meaning it! hahaha.

Congratulations! I feel so inspired by you.

Recently I went on a trip, so I stopped exercising. I got hurt so I couldn't exercise. It has been 3 weeks, I am lazy and beside work I would actually do nothing. I went to several buffets restaurants with my family recently too...

The consequences? I gained like 6 lbs just like that. I noticed my weight gain last monday. It has been a week and I have been trying to eat better.

I haven't started doing any exercise lately, my leg wound is almost healed up, so I will start my regular running and exercising again.

Even though I only gain 6 small lbs...everyone who saw me said I am noticeably more fatter, which is such a big dissapointment.

Oh well, I'll just have to do better. I'll take your success as an inspiration and hopefully pretty soon I gain post something up about losing the weight rather than gaining it.

Well. i Love to exercize. It sooths me. and i have a tredmill so it helps. i have trouble sleeping sometimes and i run to get tired so i can sleep well. And Its summer time and the wether is nice, so i've been swimming too. not for exercize, just for fun, but it still burns calories...I did backtrac a little today tho. i ate a hamburger b/c thats all i had to eat, and i was rly hungry after swimming lol. but i ran longer today, hoping to balance it out lol. well, i just hope i keep up with this. I really like how you adress people's post individually for the most part. It makes me feel like my goals matter. I will try to keep updating on my situation. And thanks

I just wanted to report in. I'm now 140 pounds! I'm up 15 pounds since April. Summer has been good to me! Hope everyone else is doing well, too. :)

yay!!! (!) (!) (!) Wonderful! You only have 5 more pounds to gain to reach your goal of 145lb!

I don't know about everyone else but I guess I'm doing sorta okay. I gained a few lbs but after a week of exercising, I lost most of them. I am no where near my goal right now though..which is really sad, but I'm still trying my best.

btw, I really like the pictures of you in your vintage go-go shirt.

Endlessnight500, thank you for saying that. I really want to address each individual post seperately so everyone can understand that I actually read all of them, it is more sincere that way. We are all going through this together, whether trying to lose weight, trying to gain weight, or trying to change your lifestyle to a better health. Everyone goals are important.

As we update on our progress, we learn a few things or two. What type of food to eat, what type of exercise to do, what are the things we want to share to others..etc. I really appreciated you guy's replies.

Have anyone ever thought about rope jumping? I suddenly have this urge to go buy a rope to start this for fun. I don't know... I feel that if I'm too lazy to go outside to run or exercise, I might as well have something to do inside at home.

I think rope jumping keep your heart rate up and must burn a lot of calories too.. it involve mostly your whole body..sorta like running.

I'm going to try this for now and will post up about it after. Maybe it can be something we can all try.

I feel that if I'm too lazy to go outside to run or exercise, I might as well have something to do inside at home.

I totally understand this feeling. I've been doing well right now... but that's because I am not working (that ends tomorrow). But I really want an ergometer (rowing machine). That way I can work out in my own home and those things are amazing in terms of a full body work out. I haven't actually bought one yet (they are about $1000 for a good one) but I'm thinking about it. They are so great and it's in house... I figure I might get that instead of a dining table haha.

I love to jump rope lol. I know I sound like a little girl, but Jumping rope is so fun, and it does give you a good workout. I really dont have to go outside to do anything but swim. I have one of those ablounge things, a tredmil, and a workoutbench type thing, i dont know what to call it, but it have alot of diffent things you can do on it. But honestly the only one i ever use is the tredmill, i'd rather a normal Wieght Bench and regular situps. it just feels more effective to me.

What a great thread , im starting to crash diet and excersice in the next few days. I am an heavy emotional eater and i am in a very unhappy period of my life at the moment. But i need to try , i need to get healthy and i need to lose it fast.

Well, went on my bathroom scale, and says I gained a pound or two. I think it was the food that I ate early... Need to do it in the morning though...

But on to my gym adventure... Went to the gym for the second time... In like a week. I blame it on illness and on this stupid heat. I am not going to ride my bicycle to the gym in 92 degree heat with 70% humidity. By the time I get there, I'll be dead from heat stroke... And that's happened to some people already! But to be serious, I'll go probably later today (June 28?)...

SG.

Okay, I just now decided to post on this thread. My first comment is about how people are discussing how they have only lost/gained 1-2 pounds. Throughout the course of the day, our weight can fluctuate up to 5 pounds in both directions. So, it really isnt anything to worry about. Chances are, are that you are just slightly dehydrated and have retained a little bit of water to compensate.

Okay, but now about myself. I am 19, and 5'10.5". I have tried dieting in the past, but many things have come up. For example: I was doing well, and had lost about 20 pounds... then I got a sinus infection and a cold, and that ruined it all. So, things just keep interupting my weight loss. As of 3 weeks ago I started low carbohydrate dieting. I have done it before, and love it. Three weeks ago at 5 feet 10.5 inches tall, I weighed 260 pounds. For my frame [I have a rather slender bone structure], my Body Mass Index [BMI] was 35 [30= obese, 40+=morbidly obese]. So this along with my total body fat % [around 32%], says that I need to lose between 60-75 pounds. As of today, I weigh 235 pounds, and am well on my way to my ideal weight. In 3 weeks time, I have lost 25 pounds.

Yes, I know that is quite a bit in 3 weeks, but for my frame I am really overweight. Most people estimate [just from looking] that I should only lose 40 pounds. But, all of the medical aspects [my parents ironically own an excercize facility where they can do all of your stats] say otherwise. I don't get a whole lot of excercize in- just sit ups, and push ups and light weight lifting in my room.

Inches wise.... I have already lost 5 inches from around my torso, and just varying degrees of loss here and there.

Well.... just thought I would chip in my progress. Hopefully the fact that I am young will aid my progress considerably.

Congratulations! I feel so inspired by you.

Whaddya mean 'so quickly' ??? I've been dieting and exercising since early January ! That's 20 lbs in 5.5 months...that ain't all too quickly ! But hey, whatever ! This is as fast as my metabolism is gonna let me go. Oh well...whatever ! You just gotta work with what you've got ! I can't change my genes, but I CAN change my lifestyle, innit ? ;)

Thanks so much for the comments, man ! I'll do my best to keep up with the good work...:D

^^^
Heyy that's great man !

You can do it if you go slow & steady....that's what worked for me, at least. I was fat too and pulling a 180 an suddenly going from fatty to hottie within a summer's time just wasn't an option for me. Slow and steady wins the race ...;)

You know, I had the EXACT same thing too ! I kept getting ill and stuff like that so that always interrupted my schedule !!! Every 2-3 weeks or so I'd get sick for a week so I'd be chasing my own tail so to speak. You know, I never got HOW exactly this stopped...Now it doesn't happen anymore. Maybe it's because it's summer, maybe it happened because I started yoga ? It's said after all that yoga helps improve your health in general, not just burn calories. It helps with pretty much every possible problem !

I have tried the slow and steady thing before... but the thing is... by nature I am slightly lazy when it comes to making lifestyle changes. So, with me, when I start something, it has to be all or nothing. A very abrupt change for me is neccessary to accomplish things.

I have started walking, doing excercizes like crunches and pushups with those large excercise balls [because I am an orchestral musician I have to do light weight cardio- weight lifting could damage the tendons in my hands and arms rendering me as a retired orchestral musician at my prime] and I am starting pilates/ yoga.... whichever one I like more. True... I look ridiculous rolling around on this huge ball, but it yields rather good results very quickly.

I am actually starting to like this excercizing thing.... :)
