Need Motivation To Lose Weight?!

I'm a slob :-(.. I got to college and gained about 25 lbs or so. I weigh 235 now, and I started to eat differently earlier last week, I'd like to get back under 200, but I'm not sure if that's an ideal number for 6'5".

I'm lazy...

What a great thread , im starting to crash diet and excersice in the next few days. I am an heavy emotional eater and i am in a very unhappy period of my life at the moment. But i need to try , i need to get healthy and i need to lose it fast.

hi there. okay, I am not going to go on and start giving you a lesson on not do crash dieting (even though I should) but instead I am going to encourage you. All of us had our ups and downs and I am sure most of us had already done this, but denied about it. I am going to be honest, when I felt very unhappy about my life and my body, I have done crash dieting. Do what you feel is right. Be sure to exercise because exercise will help you a lot. Once you've feel better and is over with crash dieting, you can then start clearing your mind and devise a new plan to prevent over eating.

I do hope you will feel better about yourself and your life. Just remember to listen to your body, when it is time to stop, stop before you get sick.

enderwiggen:

I totally understand what you mean. When you changes your lifestyle and the food you eat, it is a big change for your body. I am constantly sick recently and did not know why. The whole time I was exercising and dieting, I was sick with bad colds most of the time. I was coughing, sneezing, and wheezing so badly everynight playing tennis or another sport. I did not understand the reason why but did thought it had to do with exercising.

I just gained a few lbs about 3 weeks ago so I've been dieting and exercising to lose it. I finally did but now I'm having another cold.

This whole time I did not notice, until you start your post I finally realize "hey, i'm having the same problem."

aww...do not think like that at all. I was born a lazy person but somehow things change. If you give me to choose a day at home or a day on the beach, I usually would stay home. That was how lazy I was. Then as I am desperately trying my best, I found out I am not that lazy at all.

Medical recommendation your weight should be around 211, but base on your BMI, you can actually go to as low as 160. So 200 is not that bad of a number. As you may have known already, eating differently only helps a bit, actively exercising does way more better.

I've heard the more you weight, the more calories you burn. For someone who's as small like me, losing 35 lbs can be a long time but for you, it should be a lot faster. All you need is motivation and some more trusting in yourself.

Check back here often and update more on your success! ;)

Thanks, will do! :-) I like swimming, so I figured I could hop down to the pool every other day or so, and swim laps, since I love swimming.

ok so I haven't checked in here in awhile...kinda slowed down a bit with the losing weight...though I was doing really well the past couple of weeks with eating right...not that I eat junk a lot...but I was trying out new meals and such(I must say brown rice with chicken strips and a couple of tablespoons of salsa is a great little lunch and quick and easy!) but I got down to 162 like 2 weeks ago...but then went away for the weekend to VT with my friends and just drank beer all weekend so that packed the couple of lbs i lost back on..but right now I'm at 164(just weighed my self) and I know I'm looking better in the stomach and chest areas...but I really just need to get into a routine...I wish I had the cash to join a gym now cause that would be great to have a personal trainer...I know it's what I need cause I know if I'm spending the money I'll be there doing it...but right now only working 2 days a week is killing me cause I just sit around home since there is no one in my little ass town that I could even go out with during the day...so it sucks...but I'm trying!

Wow, that is a wonderful thing that you really do enjoy swimming. I love swimming too but I cannot. I have to work full time 6 days a week and by the time I take a day off, I'm usually too lazy to go anywhere (since I no longer live at a place with a pool.)

Have fun. You'll be able to do it.

well i want to join this thread to i want to lose about 60 pounds but first i have to quit smoking which is hard but i figure if i can quit smokeing then i can lose weight as well. right now i walk alot and i drinks lots of water and eat less but when i dont smoke i seem to be so hungry.the mornings are hard you always want a smoke with your moring coffee and of course i give in.

hehehe. Quit smoking is hard but it is not something impossible. Losing weight is hard but also it is something you CAN do if you really try. Just remember what I typed here today, whenever you want that smoke in the morning, think about this thread.

hehehe...you're lucky u piss most of that beer out! jk. Having a personal trainer is nice but not really necessary. I believe that you can do everything yourself, I mean, wanting a little more help is perfectly fine but in my opinion is whether you need it or not. Don't feel bad or think too much about that part of joining a gym for now, try save more money. Having no one to go out with during the day is a problem! I can't sit around at home all day, even though it doesn't mean I have anyone to go out with. If I am not working, I would usually find somewhere to go by my own or just go exercise til I'm tired and then go back for a nap. That is me though, I am bored enough myself.

Okay, now is my turn to post my results...

Last time I posted that I had gained 6 lbs, well 4 lbs sheds off easily the first week but 2 lbs left that I did not know why, until I realize because what I was doing was building mucles. The main cause was I had to finish a box of eggs (18 eggs) in less than a week because it was going to expire. So for that whole weeks I ate nothing but eggs (very high calories I know), exercising and doing a lot of crunches with this new equipment called CrossCrunchers (works awesome by the way) along with my Abslide. I got pretty strong abs muscles and there was some more definitions to a slight start of a six pack. The cross crunchers have a resistance of 75lbs, so it was like lifting weights. My arms, shoulders, chest, and esp abs were sore for days. But I love it!

Then after I realize that, I decided to start lifting weights. So ever since this past monday, I am forcing myself to lift every day upperbody and abs training, for about an hour a night. I also added lower body by doing squats (hurts like hell now!), plunging, and jogging!

The thing I was scared the most was the soreness from the start of weight lifting but for some odd reasons I feel fine! Nothing hurts on my upperbody after lifting weights! I guess that crosscruncher's and abslide did well preparing my arms, chest, and shoulders! My arms are fine, nothing is sore! That really helped because I feel even more motivated to go on longer!

Yesterday I saw lots of results on my body. My arms are more toned and shoulders are more nice, my abs are a lot tighter (even though I still need to jog off those fats! 20 lbs more!) I then decided to add squats and legs exercise to my training. I thought if I am going for extreme, I might as well get better legs and buttocks! Shoot, I can barely stand up and down this morning and until now! lol. My legs were so wobbily this morning, I thought I couldn't drive!

I was too busy for the past week from work, actually unintentionally starved myself and ate very little, I then loss my appetite after work and haven't eat dinner. I stood on the scale and had saw I gained 3 more lbs... so right now I'm blaming it all on the mucles I created, because I had been a bad boy and did not eat much, so I couldn't gain the weights on from eating. I am actually trying to eat better, it is just when I am working hard and constant, for some odd reason my stomach never say "argghh" and I totally forget about eating! I realize this yesterday afternoon because I was really sick and lightheaded and felt like I had no energy and my body was drained or something. Then i realize it because for the past week, some days I eat, some days I don't. Some days I don't even feel hungry at all.

As of now I'm currently 6'2 180lbs. I can fit into 32" pants (barely) but my main problem is that I have alot of body fat, especially around my mid-section. I usually run twice a week with one of my friends for about 30 minutes but it feels as im just losing water weight and nothing else. I try to eat healthy when I can. My goal is to be just under 170 lbs. I thought losing 10 lbs wouldnt be too hard but it feels as though i hit a plataeu. Im thinking about starting to lift weights but really have no idea what do. I would join a gym but im pretty low on cash (as I am also a college student).
Any advice people could give would help me out alot. Thanks so much.

i am now below 90 kg this is the first time that i can remember me ever weighing less than 90 (!)

also i have been eating whatever i want for the past month and lost 3 kg which i dont get

also thinking of joining a gym to ..|

My personal trainer,
agreed just last Saturday afternoon to guide,
coerce and cajole me through a program of weight loss,
diet and hard workouts until I am at my target May 15 of 2009.
My experience, and I have had some real success at times,
is a balance of diet, workouot and finding a release from stress.
Having someone to hold me to a contract, so to speak, helps...|

well I started back up today...i'm serious again.....I did 45 minutes on the Treadclimber burned 600 calories...then went into the pool for a bit...though it was cold so I didn't do much in there...came in and did some push ups, crunches and some stretches....feel pretty good...I'm gonna aim for at least 3 times a week doing this....

I have a question though for ya'll....a "healthy" diet should consist of like 1500 calories a day correct? I don't feel like I eat that much in a day...I mean I don't count...but I don't think that what I eat counts up to that much...I guess maybe one day I should just count and see...but what do y'all do to get all the calories you need in a day? I don't wanna eat when I'm not hungry

Great work folks! I've not made the progress as many of you have, but at least I have broke myself of eating all the garbage.

Hi maxpowr9,

losing 10 lbs can be very easy to some people, for others, it can be extremely difficult especially when you've found yourself to hit a plataeu. One thing to keep in mind is that when you start lifting weight, muscle weight more than fat, you will gain more weight, so do not be shock when you first start out.

If you feel that you've hit a plataeu, change your exercise habit. I try to do the same, run a few times a week, each time for 30 minutes...depending on your speed, I usually run 2 or 3 miles each time. I too felt that I was losing only water weight but after a while, I realize that I am too losing fat weight because I am noticably thinner. Change your exercise activities. Do something else for a while, then come back if needed.

As far as eating, do not stop eating or start another starvation crisis. Eat frequently but in smaller portions. Eat breakfast, eat lunch, snack in the afternoon, eat a smaller dinner. Whenever your body feels hungry, just go on ahead and eat something small. It could be a fruit or a nonfat yogurt. Don't onver indulge yourself. Eat just a tiny bit of something just to feel better..leave the food there or store it and go do something else. In about 10 minutes later, you've realize you're no longer hungry. You need the energy from food to burn the fat, otherwise you're burning your own energy. That will only result in fatique and tireness.

If you eat right, it doesn't mean what you're eating is wrong, and exercise, most importantly try to burn calories rather than how long you're engaging in the activity. Like... If you run fast and furious for only 15 mintues, you're burning even more calories than jogging slow for half an hour.

congratulation!!

You've been eating whatever you want but you might have been doing a lot of more activities, that you haven't realize, that burn more calories.

When I was visiting my friends for a month, we ate basically everything we want and it was nonstop trips to late night steak-n-shakes... I was amaze that I was actually losing weight than gaining. I then realize because when I was with them, I was so active.. never was I sat still for several hours on the computer or watching tv.. I was running around, walking around, having the best time of my life and losing more weight than gaining.

Definately! Its all about motivation. It is really hard for anyone to make a commitment when they are all alone, no one to help, to be there, or to give guidance. May 15, 2009 may be a really long time to think of, but as soon as you start the program and start seeing results, I am sure it will go by very quickly. ..|

Wow, you did a lot for one day. 600 calories on a treadmill is a very tough thing to lose, you are so powerful!

Healthy diet does not require an amount of 1500 calories a day. Infact, remember that the more you burn, the more you can intake. You can eat more than the 2000 calories limit but if you burn half of that off, there will be a balance of 1000 (example).

Sometimes the food we eat we think does not exceed the limit calories or adds up to that but it does.

Take for example, any food you eat will usually say ___ amount of calories. So you eat it thinking you only get that much, but what you did not realize is the amount of calories listed is only for one serving. That food you eat can be up to 6 servings perhaps... so the amount of calories need to be times by 6..if you ate the whole thing yourself.

Take for example, I ate a bowl of instant noodles with an amount of 360 calories per serving. I ate the whole bowl by myself, so that is equal to 720 calories. If I were to eat just 2 small bowls of that a day, I have already reached the 1500 calories mark. I can eat a tiny bit more food for dinner with a drink and easily could pass 2000 calories.

Counting calories is scary.

In your case, if you dont want to eat when you are not hungry, then you should still do so. If you accidentally starve yourself, you're body will automatically go into "survival" mode and start storing everything you eat into fat (since fat is stored energy, and you need that energy to survive longer).

But if you are seriously not hungry at all, then you can just snack on some fruits or something atleast. Sometimes you don't feel hungry but your body does.

wonderful! that is a very great start. As soon as you realize this, you will then learn to realize that exercising can help lose weight, burn fat, and help reduce stress!

Well.... I think I hit the -30lb marker today. For the past couple of days the scale has been floating between 234-227 depending on how I shift my weight. When I stood normally today around noon, it read a clear 230 [of course I tried to see how far I could make it go, and it went up to 234 and down to 226]. So, I think I have lost 30lbs now.... YAY me! :D

I recently started doing pilates [as in yesterday], and while it is really difficult sometimes, it is actually quite fun! I can feel just a huge difference in just two days. Although... part of my weight problem is a combo of: lower than normal metabolism, poor diet, and no physical activity. Now that I am eating better, and finding physical activity fun, the inches seem to be falling off.

!oops!Well i guess I'll start here.

I think I was 170 last year around the summer after 3 weeks of PE in the hot sun and 4 miles running everyday during that time. So I was happy then.

But then things went to hell, school just piled up and i rarely found time to be able to exercise due to the workload.

Now, I'm damn sure I've gained too much weight for my liking so now I intend to loose weight. I think the motivation I have is that I really want my legs back in shape because last year I loved them! After all that running I thought my legs could kick through walls of steel or something. So yea.

So far i have and am trying to cut Soda out of my life, but I do give in to temptations and have one like once a week and now I feel I've gained 3 pounds form that. I dont do workout with weights, I just do Sit ups, push ups, squats, basically a non-weight routine.

I don't realy run or walk so I kinda need help in that department. Around me theres a park and a whole lot of desert so I could run in there, but occasionally there are loose dogs and I'm deathly afraid of some.

And as for food:

I don't know what to do. I try to find something to eat in my house that wont be bad for me but my mom buys all these fattening foods. So I really need help finding something good to eat. So far I either eat something green or a fruit for lunch and breakfast and then nothing for dinner. And I know thats really bad and that I should proably have at least 6 small meals a day, but I don't.

So yea. I need some help. Today I just did situps, pushups, squats, and a few others things.
