As the moderators closest and highly regarded adviser, it falls on me from time to time to counsel the powers on matters that need intervention.

I propose the following rule become JUB Legislation:

Any member who starts a "Goodbye" or "I'm leaving" thread, and/or writes something that could be read in the same vein in their blog, will receive an instantaneous, lifetime ban.

All in favour, say Aye.

DA, quit stirring up shit. Ben's a smartarse and is about as subtle as a hammer in the bollocks, but he's definitely got a point in both the OP and the #5. I don't agree with the ban idea, but I do think the grandiose I'm Leaving thing is pretty self-obsessed. Reminds me of so many people.

Oh, the memories...

^ You've been here just a few months. I've been here a few years. You get used to them after awhile.

Oh, don't we just? Everyone gets annoyed because we don't treat their "I'm leaving" thread seriously, but we've seen hundreds, and they're all exactly the same. Dramatic people are so predictable.

Funny.

I almost never read an 'I'm leaving and don't try to stop me' thread. The only times I do it's by someone whose presence I really value. And even then I may not post in the thread itself.
I believe this one falls under the category of 'if you don't want to read it, don't open it'. :)

But Ben, we would have so much less drama in our lives without the anticipation of learning who is dropping out each day and who returns the next day.

AND 7 LASHES!!!! J/K ;)

People come, people go; it's the only thing about JUB that's like real life. It's always sad when people you like and care about leave, but I agree that posting a thread in HT is rather unnecessary; just PM the people you care about, let them know you're leaving and why, and move on. That's how I was going to do it. Some people feel it's necessary, though, and who are we to deny them? We don't have to open the thread, and if we do, we don't need to post in it. (I've been trying to apply that thought to quite a few threads, but I've been mostly unsuccessful.)
please keep that in the Past Tense.

I actually find those kinds of threads very helpful in determining someones true personality and whether or not I would waste any time getting to know them.:D

So I say we keep them...|

quoted because it's true :)

oh did you know that 431 is a british telecom plug?

I stopped posting in Hot Topics for almost a month a while ago and only posted in a few other forums here when I had to.

Only 1 person noticed my absence and PMed me.

I don't think anyone would even miss me if I quietly left JUB entirely.

I think it is a fantastic rule.

Anyone who wishes to delete their account must give 30 day notice, and post every day within those 30 days. By then, whatever was bothering them will be long over with and they will probably forget about deleting their account. This will prevent the " oh, I'm going to miss you so mu........oh, you're back" threads......;)
