Re: New Kids On The Block reunion

People magazine tells the group will make the announcement in the next few weeks.

The boy band -- made up of Jordan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood and Jonathan Knight -- were a worldwide phenomenon in the early '90s, selling more than 50 million albums worldwide before calling it quits in 1994.

With such songs as "Hangin' Tough," "Step By Step" and "You Got It (The Right Stuff)," made tweens across the globe swoon.

Of course, more than a decade later, these "Kids" are all grown up.

Donnie, now 38, has dabbled in acting, landing roles in "The Sixth Sense," "Saw II," "Saw IV" and the TV series "Boomtown."

Danny, also 38, released a solo album and worked as a producer with Donnie on a Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch album, fronted by Donnie's younger brother-turned-Oscar nominee Mark Wahlberg.

Jonathan, who turns 40 later this month, is now a real estate developer on the East Coast.

Jordan, the group's lead singer, achieved some success as a solo singer after the group disbanded. He also appeared on the third season of VH1's "The Surreal Life" in 2004 and also appeared in the 2007 spinoff "The Surreal Life: Fame Games," before leaving the show for personal reasons.

My sister will so want to see this.

Re: New Kids On The Block reunion

Hmmm I have mixed emotions about this. I wasnt old enough to enjoy the NKOTB craze when I was little.

Re: New Kids On The Block reunion

Golly ! What wonderful news !!

Think there's any way they can all get together and still really suck out loud after all these years ???

Hope springs eternal.

That's Jonathan Knight, Ben Ben, Jordan's brother. He was the first to quit the band.

Re: New Kids On The Block reunion

I recently pulled out som e New Kids songs and gave them a listen. And I was surprised by how inert they were. Some of them sound like demos, with their budget keyboards, tinny drum machines, and rudimentary lyrics and song structures.

Look, I'm not decrying pop music. You may never meet a bigger pop music fanatic than me. I'll freely admit that boy bands, from Jackson Five and the DeFranco Family up through N'Sync delivered some great pop music. But NKOTB didn't even do good pop. A few of the songs are OK - "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" is one - but most of it doesn't even make for a decent guilty pleasure.

So then why the reunion? Well, money, obviously, but what's in it for the public? In the 80s and early 90s, they gave squealy 14-year-olds of all ages a cute boy squad with adequate choreography to go with the dull pop. Now? They're older. They don't have the same voices they did back then. (Will they scale everything down an octave?) They're perhaps decently attractive (and one only can hope that Danny no longer looks quite so gorilla-ish). But will they want to skip-dance, tap heart, and do the arm sweep to the audince as they announce that "she's my cover girl" in this day and age? And who is the target audience? The former 14-year-olds? Are they brave enough to announce their Jordan allegiance now that they're thirty?

This is rumor is not true:

There has been talk of a New Kids on the Block reunion tour the past few days, but one of the former band members says it's not happening!

Danny Wood just sent out the following bulletin to all his MySpace friends:

"Hello to everyone. Hope all is well and everyone is enjoying the New Year. I wanted to address the rumors of the NKOTB Reunion Tour. There has been no talk of this and you are getting it from source directly. Never say never, and you can't believe everything you read.

On another note my solo record will be released in Australia in March. There are a few new songs on it and I hope you guys will check it out. Thank you so much for your continued support.

Boy, Danny still sounds like he's 18. Maybe the other four aren't inviting him along... :D

Oh, thank god...I dont think I could stand listening to them again...I did not like them the first time around and I know damn well that I would not like them the second time around

Re: New Kids On The Block reunion

anybody remember the infamous stomach pumping rumors? way i'd heard it was Jordan had been passed around the bus so much that they ended up pumping a gallon of cum from his stomach. it was HILARIOUS how mad some of the girls would get when you'd bring it up.

Re: New Kids On The Block reunion

Was that tossed onto them, too? I heard the exact same rumor about Rod Stewart back in the early 80s. :)
