purely from a biological standpoint, there might be something wrong with a gay gene, if the entire root point of all living species is to evolve and propagate. people who are infertile or aren't predisposed to breeding kinda end up as genetic dead-ends.

If it was a serious evolutionary impediment, it would be gone by now.

It may actually be of benefit -- the Polynesians thought so, among others.

Perhaps there is no gay gene but instead a mutation.

No offence guys, but some of the posts in here just sound like rampant paranoia. Genetic alterations, mass genocide, eradiction, extinction... If it were ever proven that there is a single gene that dictated sexuality, it would be too unethical for doctors (in the western world at least) to do such things. As one poster said, most parents already don't care about sexuality anymore. As another poster said, most people can't afford the would-be costs of genetic screening and certainly couldn't afford alterations... I really wouldn't worry guys.

Sorry dude, but until the third trimester, it's just a clump of cells, not a baby -gay or otherwise. If a woman chooses to have an abortion, it's not up to me to stop her just because her baby-to-be most likely will be gay.

^A morula, that is a clump of cells. A gastrula, that is a clump of cells, only more complex. But I wouldn't call an embryo/foetus just a clump of cell when it has a functioning heart of its own.
Hit Google if you don't know what the exact definition of a morula, gastrula, and embryo/foetus is.

Back to topic: I honestly don't see how this would turn out. Scientists still cannot determine the basic science behind homosexuality - all the theories out there are still hypothetical and requiring more studies.
Screening foetuses for fatal diseases are understandable, but so far I haven't heard about foetuses being aborted just because it's coloured or colour blind or having six fingers with no other life-threatening conditions. Should the gay screening thing become worldwide, we're dealing with bizarre human right controversies here.

actually getting rid of the gay gene could plunge humanity into a death spiral.

its been proven that gay men exist because their mothers are more fertile than mothers of straight men, so the gay gene does two things, it makes you more attractive to men, makes you more attracted to men, and more willing to have sex with men.

so humans thrive because of the gay gene, not in spite of it, and why so many millions of men are gay and bisexual.

the same thing can be said about hundreds of gene abnormalities, not all of them, but many of them that appear to be counter-evolutionary are the exact opposite, those genes are the very reason humans have become so incredibly advanced technologically and socially.

Unfortunately, the ultra-fundies will just say that this proves that being gay is a defect. Or they'll claim that the "gay gene" is just a "gay liberal atheist conspiracy".

More likely, just imagine the ultra-fundies, who believe there should be absolutely NO abortion whatsoever, in any case (even rape, incest, or the survival of the mother). NOT WASTE A BIT OF TIME getting themselves to the abortion clinics if testing shows their babies might be gay.

And among those who feel there should never be abortions, that group of people is almost entirely anti-gay, I'd think at least 90% of them.
