New York Mets 2008

I don't know what else to contribute to the frustration venting sessions above. I just don't know what to say.

As for Willie, the pressure is indeed on. I've seen speculation that he could be gone as soon as Monday. I don't think that having a new guy on the steps of the dugout is going to instantly turn this team around. We're plagued by some injuries and an almost simultaneous slump among most of the starting 9. I'm a Willie fan over all, but to cry to the BERGEN RECORD because ya think Keith Hernandez or the Loudmouths haven't said the nicest things about you? C'mon. I think everybody (the fans, our boys in blue, willie, and the talking heads on SNY) are just scratching their heads trying to figure out what's missing from the equation. It's more than just Pedro.

First I must say welcome to the thread and look forward to more contributions....and a fellow Jersey City guy!:D..|This sweep by Atlanta really has turned all the good stuff that seemed to be happening with the Mets two wins over the Yanks last weekend upside down. It's just inexplicable and almost unforgiveable that such a great opportunity to charge right back in the division was so totally wasted. The subpar effort by Santana after the poor performances of John Maine and Mike Pelfrey is just plain depresssing.

I don't want to see Willlie fired, and yet don't know what the Mets can do to turn things around, light some fire among the players as a whole to get producing together.Willie's comments do come across as whining, and this is a tough place to play when things aren't going well and Willie surely knows better. And speaking of Pedro,I feel bad about hi situation, with his ailing father.I hope he doesn't retire after the season as he intimates he may find himself doing in caring for his father, but he has to do what is best for his family. There just doesn't seem to be any good news going on with the Mets all of a sudden.I just hope there is time to correct this nightmare of a season before even playoff hopes become a real stretch.

Yup, I totally agree. You sound like I feel, just disgusted.
So will Santana stop the bleeding tonight? I mean isn't that one of his jobs?
Will the Mets fall to a sweep and end up below .500 ?.
Hudson pitches for Atlanta, he is 8-5 lifetime against The Mets.
Mercifully I have a wedding rehearsal and party tonight so I won't have to suffer through the possibility of an Atlanta sweep. My dad has promised not to bother me with blackberry updates so I can enjoy myself. So I'll get a little drunk, come home and check out the final score, laugh my ass off and go to bed. What else can ya do, it's just a big joke now.
BUT I love my Mets, I will never give up on them. In fact I think my devotion to this team gives me licence to beat up on them once in while. trouble is, except for the Yankee series, I have been doing a lot of that since there has not been much to cheer about lately.

The great news is Church is doing really well and may even play tonight.
The bad news is Alou has a strained calf muscle and may be gone for a while
Martinez who was supposed to have a bullpen session today, but has left to fly to the Dominican Republic where his father had had a setback in his battle with cancer. No word on when he will be back. Then of course there is Willie crying and complaining about how badly he is being treated by the media and the fans. Oh boo hoo, Willie, grow up, man up, and get your team back on track with some consistent wins. What bullshit, the pressure is obviously getting to him.

The only thing keeping me sane is the fact that the Yankees are actually playing worse than the Mets. Otherwise my friends who are Yankee fans would be pounding me with no mercy right now. Trouble is I deserve it cause last year when the Yankees choked I was a pit bull, making all the Yankee fans crazy.
So this yar we kinda just console one another, you know, like true baseball fans do.
I'm glad you were at the wedding rehearsal/party tonight sonny instead of having to watch this embarassing, pathetic sweep by the Braves and hope you had a great time...those 4 game ones really hurt even more.I had to work tonight but checked the score and so called "highlights" and really felt down and frustrated.

Like I said in the above post,I don't think firing Willie is the answer to turn things around, but I'm as much at a loss as you are figuring out what willl make this team perform like winners and get them motivated and excite the fans again. We're all gonna do a lot of consoling the waty things are going.

Good thoughts and welcome to this thread, it's always nice to read fresh perspectives. I would not want to se willie gat fired, not yet anyway. Althugh the comments he made to the Bergan Record have upset the front office quite a bit.
His aplogy or back tracking did him no good and he has lost some respect. however I say give him more time, besides just who the hell are you going to replace him with. I mean you can't exactly dial 1-800-manager. Leave him be, give him more time.

Thanks Sausy, the party was awesome. I got a little drunk and danced my ass off. Oh and I got laid, so how bad is that? ;)
I am not going to comment on yesterdays game, I have not seen it and probably won’t.
I am very concerned if we can’t at least win 2 out of 3 against Colorado this weekend. The Rockies have not been playing all that well, 18-29 and 10 games out of first place. We need to beat them; a sweep would be a dream come true. I am even more concerned about the Marlins who have surprised everyone this year, can we beat them? Well … I jus dono.

So now I hear Major League Baseball is making tentative plans to implement instant replay in the Arizona Fall League this year on an experimental basis. If it works, it will be used solely to determine home run calls. Instant replay likely is headed to spring training and could be fully implemented into the majors by the start of next season.
I support this only if it is to be used for home run calls; there were three bad calls last week alone. As long as it does not delay the game to long, that would make me nuts.

Alou is now on the 15 day DL, but I just don’t know, I think he comes back to soon he might end up tearing that up and be out for much longer. I love the guy, but he is injury prone and may not be much help to us this year.

One of my clients invited me and Nick to the Dodgers game next Friday night. We'll be watching the game from their Diamond View Suite. :)

Got laid?Oh,sonny, pour it on!:cry:I just had to work !:(Glad you had a great time though!;)I've got my sister's wedding next Saturday and will try not to embarass myself on the dance floor and knock into anyone!!oops!

Hopefully the Rockies series will result in more focused play and we can get them while they're down. Can't believe the Rockies went from NL champs with promising future to really struggling this year! The way the Mets have played so far doesn't leave much room for encouragement, though.

Yea,it's probably a good call by MLB to have replays only regarding home run calls, with the blown calls against Carlos Delgado against the Yankees and Alex Rodriguez against the Orioles.Hopefully it will work out and will not be intrusive, and the way it seems to be intended I doubt there will be problems.I think that the way they're doing it by first using it in the Arizona Fall League will give MLB an opportunity to see out any kinks before its MLB intro next spring training.

Really like Moises Alou and tough seeing him having problems staying healthy. He is such a pro on the field and in the clubhouse but at 42 he just may not have it in him any more to play the field and he may be better off finishing his career as a DH in the AL.I would not risk him playing again until his leg is fully healed for his sake.

I am not going to discuss the loss in Colorado last night, cause I am still a little sick to my stomach and don’t want to think about it anymore.
I do however want to talk about Willie Randolph and his future as the manager of the Mets.

Omar went to Colorado yesterday to “evaluate” the situation. Ya gotta figure when the GM shows up at a game where he was not originally scheduled to attend, you know something’s up. He will observe the 3 games and then go back to the Wilpons and make recommendations. Willie meanwhile has a meeting with them all on Tuesday to tell his side of the story and basically try to save his job. Willie did try and reach the Wilpons the other day to try and apologize for the remarks he made, but they did not return his call, instead Omar was sent to Colorado. Now supposedly Willie has Omar’s back, they have been friends for a long time and Omar hired him. But Omar has to put al that aside and make the best decision, after all, he has his own job to worry about.
I simply do not believe all the Mets troubles will disappear if Willie goes. The front office, the players and coaches are all responsible for the Mets mess. I also think Willie has always been undermined by Wilpon and the rest in the front office, going back to the press conference last year, and even the firing of Rick Down. They have not given Willie the control he should have been given and Willie should not be the one to take the fall. Of course, Willie is the collaborator of his fate, he mad a big mistake last week when he shot off his mouth. He put the focus on himself. His perception by management has changed and not for the good. I hate what is going on; his judgment has come into call.
Look, the team has been playing sloppy baseball and Willie is going to feel the heat if things don’t change.

Meanwhile Gary Carter has said he is interested in Willies job. “The kid” even went so far as to call Jay Horowitz to ask if he should try and contact the Wilpons about the position. WHAT!!! Jesus Gary, the man has not been fired yet, and you should be giving the organization any fuel in dumping Willie. Sit back, relax and keep you mouth shut until there is something to talk about. My dad asked what I thought about Carter managing the Mets and I simply refuse to talk about that right now.

If the Mets lose 2 out of 3,or get swept by Colorado, I am not so sure Willie will be around for the Marlins series nest week, and that make me sad.

Let's just say I was smiling while driving all the way home :D

How about that Nick Evans, the new kid we called up from AA
3 doubles and covering left field like he owned it.
What an awesome major legue debut.
Thanks for watching the Mets, we need all the support we can get

I know Nick has a good rep as a hitter with good power potentia, and if the Mets don't make a splash for Mark Teixeira for first base next season,he may be a top candidate. He sure is a cutie!Hasn't done much since his outstanding debut, but with Fernando Martinez is someone towatch for the Mets future.

Anyway, this thread needs to be resurrected so we can really get our Mets on!:D

Yay! The forum is back up and easy to find again!!!

I'll try to post my thoughts about current state of the Mets tomorrow.

Good to see you back here gambit, look forward to your thoughts!:D

Pedro had a good outing on Tuesday going 6 innings with an impressive 109 pitches. He also helped himself at the plate with 2 singles. He looked healthy, his velocity was surprising strong. I was happy Wille left him in for the 6th and even though he got into a little trouble, he pitched himself out of it (Pedro style) with a strong fastball. I will be interested in seeing if he continues his strong comeback on Sunday.
So we won another series, and move on to San Diego for 4. Pelfrey gets the start tonight, let’s see if he really did earn that spot in the rotation or will he crash and burn. Saturday Perez will get a chance to screw things up again. NO, I have no confidence in him at all, he is painful and embarrassing to watch, absolutely no fun at all. If I were king I would be looking to bring Jon Neise or Carlos Muniz up. I also hear Figueroa is making really good progress in New Orleans. We need a change in the rotation, with the defense and offensive making it happen again, we gotta look to stabilizing the pitching staff. That means taking a hard look at guys like Perez, and Pelfrey.
Meanwhile Beltran seems to be coming around and has some success at the plate lately, Reyes, except for some routine errors, seems to be his ole self again.

My biggest concern right now is the Phillies, they are paying some damn good baseball. The Marlins are a feisty team as well but I am not too concerned about em, and the Braves are goin down baby. Smoltz is done for the season; he will be having shoulder surgery.
Poor Braves can’t cut a break Well, chop chop mother f#@kers.

I can never get enough of "chop, chop mother f#@kers"!

Good effort from Maine, like you said in Ab's thread solid effort for Pelfrey, though it's a tough 2-1 loss against San Diego.

I love Pedro, his love for the game and the fun he has is really infectious. The thing that's so great about him is that even though he is no longer the Pedro throwing 95 regularly,he has a great command of his pitches and is a master out there. That's why I said in Ab's thread that Pedro could be 50% and find a way to win... comparing his work ethic and pride to Oliver Perez's disastrous meltdowns this season.

Yeah, the Phillies concern me above anybody. We just have to play them tough and keep playing better overall baseball. That's why I would like us to go on a big winning tear, especially against struggling teams. But I think we can take the Philliies as long and not take them for granted after what happened last year.

sonny, what do you think of the Mets draft picks yesterday?Definitely seems they are looking for a pretty quick infusion of players almost MLB ready.

Mets lost 2-1 again tonight. With Santana pitching after a loss.No breaks and no timely hitting even after the bases were loaded twice.San Diego is struggling and we just can't go flat again out there!:(

Well I am very excited about Ike Davis, I guess ya know his his dad is Ron Davis.
The kid is awesome, he can be a corner outfielder (sorry to say Nick Evans had to go),and he can play first, possibly platooning with the struggling Delgato. Hell, the kid can even pitch. :=D:
They are for sure looking for a quick infusion of players and it's great to see the Mets focus on college kids early. can't wait to se him out there.

Wow. What a let down today. Having Wagner give up a homerun in the eighth, when the Mets were up pretty much the entire game. The looks on everyone's faces in the dugout said it all...shell-shocked.

I'm definitely worried about our pitching. Wagner is no longer unhittable and has blown three saves in the last few weeks. Pedro was lucky to get out with a no-decision considering how many runs he gave up through 5.

We're very much an up and down team right now and not playing as consistently well as the Phillies or Marlins and that could lead to one of them building up a lead that's hard to overcome.

I'm not sure what's really wrong with them but they went from a team with energy and excitement when Willie benched a few players to being listless and mistake riddled.

As to the draft picks, I think the Mets did well drafting a first baseman (they'll just have to get someone to bridge from Delgado's leaving at the end of the season until the new kid is ready). It was actually nice having a first round draft pick for a change!

I am still so pissed after that eighth inning meltdown by Wagner. Now he can't be depended on either?I'm sure he's kicking himself especially over that Tony Clark three run homer that cost the game...but losing a game like this is inexcusable. This is the worst setback yet for the Mets, four straight losses and especially a loss after such heartbreaking pitcher's duels. The offense woke up but the closer choked.I don't know if this club has any kind of chance to turn around the season.Just when you think they are back on track, what a fucking horrible derailment.I am so disappointed and disgusted myself, gambit!

Sonny,I love the picks of Ike Davis and Resse Havens, two young hard hitting lefty bats.Great potential offensively, solid defensively though limited speed and range for both...and Reese may be moved to second or catcher because shortstop and third base are already very well taken care of in Mr. Reyes and Mr. Wright. The Mets still need to improve spped and sthleticism,so I don't know if they wee the best choices but they have great instincts and talent.Brian Holt gives them another arm that is nearly ready and has solid potential.Good draft, but like I said I wonder if they hurt the athleticism and speed that Omar Minaya said he wanted to increase on the club.

Interesting times for the Mets, not always in the best way.But we're fans and we will love them and treasure the great days when they come again, which they WILL!..|

Yeah I would like to see D Wright a day off once in a while.

Yesterday was too much to handle, we finally get close to winning one and of all people Wagner blows it.
A four game weep by the Padres is so embarrassing and completely unacceptable.
The pitching was not to bad (cept Billy) Even Perez went 5 and a third giving up only 4 hits and one run, for him that's better than his usuall meltdown, but I still hold my breath and close one eye every time he throws the ball.
But the bats went cold. Only Delgato woke from his coma to produce for us. Wright is pulling again!!
How can they leave 22 guys on base in the first 3 games? :grrr:
I am disgusted with guys like Castro who overslept on Sunday and showed up one hour before the game
How the hell does that happen, the fool had to know he was catching on Sunday, day game after a night game and a lefty on the mound for SD. Come on, that’s bullshit. Glad he was fined and pulled from the lineup. Maybe he should remember the Mets are carrying 3 catchers right now, so pull that crap again and maybe we say adios.
Meanwhile the Phillies continue to roll, winning 15 of their last 19 and they swept Atlanta, IN ATLANTA!!
:eek::eek:
