New York Mets 2008

I did not bring up the whole racial thing cause I agree with you that there is nothing to it. The media has a way of distorting the facts and blowing things out of proportion ya know. I do not believe Billy's comments were racially motivated, he was referring to the guys both white and latino who shun the media and not because of their race. He actually cleared that up yesterday saying "I think it's just certain guys. I don't think it's Latin or white or black. I don't think it's a color thing. I think it's just, as a whole, there's guys that need to stand there and take the bad with the good." He then apologized to Delgato, and Carlos agreed there was nothing to the race thing, and said of him and Billy, "We're straight." Carlos also said he would work at trying to make himself more available to the media. but of course the media would have none of it, sayin Wagner was backsliding, well, fuck em. I believe Billy. It goes back to LoDuca's remarks last year about the Latino music blasting in the clubhouse, I mean he could not like the music but still like the guys. But of course that would make for a boring news story

Sooooo we got rained out yesterday, I was so bummed. But today is a new day and it will be Santana and Pettitte. The beer will be on ice and the boys will be coming over to watch an important series for the Yankees and a chance for the Mets to get their shit together. Oh and you know Hank will be watching Santana and hopefully think "shit, how did I let him get away"? He had better, cause if Pettitt beats Sanatna this afternoon, I am going to lose my mind.
Nope, that aint gonna happen, Santana will beat the struggling Pettitt.
Santana will go 7 or 8 followed by Smith, ya hear that Willie? SMITH, and NOt Heillman ](*,)

Yay!Santana did better than your prediction, sonny and gave the bullpen a well deserved rest going 7 and 2/3 innings in a 7-4 win over the Yanks and Andy Petitte, not spectacular but effective and workmanlike.Billy Wagner was a bit dicey closing it but he held up well enough.I am proud of our offensive effort,13 hits,7 runs and virtually everyone contributed...Beltran and Delgado are back to heating up,David Wright homered along with Jose Reyes into the right field seats and had three hits to Reye's two.Ryan Church was his steady self and made a great throw relayed by Reyes to get Damon at the plate.

I hope everyone knows that things have to change, that everyone has to be responsible and play to win,not be defensive and sloppy and point fingers or reject responsibility.Games like this can only help the psyche of the whole team and orgaization. The Mets are capable of really good things, just focus like today a lot more and do it.

Oh man sausy, that game was tight.
The Mets had everything going, manufacturing runs and putting the ball in play. Just outstanding defense and offensive, and of course Santana who went the 7-8 I thought he would. I got a little tense in the first with Pettitt looking focused and sharp and Johan having a little trouble finding his spots, his location was defiantly off. But that’s what happens I guess with 6 days off, sometimes a pitcher will have a problem with control, I think maybe that’s why Johan missed a lot of pitches in the first inning, but I kinda knew he would settle down in the 2nd. He is a strike out pitcher who can usually put the ball where he wants it. He out pitched Pettitt big time, and did what he does well, stopped the bleeding.
His ERA is under 3 now...

What about that offense, man they were on game yesterday. I flipped out when Ryan (he can no wrong) Church) made that awesome throw to the cut off man Castillo, who relayed it to the plate to get Damon trying to score from first, then Schneider blocking the plate to get him AWESOME!!! Ya don’t see catchers blocking the plate like that so much any more. It’s all about the fundamentals, it wins ball games.

Then there was Randolph, man, he too was on fire, pacing, yelling, and showing more passion then I have seen from him in a while, maybe ever. For sure that rubs off on the players. Did you see what he did with Castillo when Matsui was at the plate? he waved to Castillo to move to his right, which was exactly where Matsui grounded to on the next pitch. Oh man, I love stuff like that.
I was a little skeptical about putting Wagner in the 8th but because I liked what I had seen Willie do all through the game I sat back and thought OK Willie I am not gonna yell at you this time (I do that a lot). One of my boys watching the game with me said " Jez Joey, your not screaming at Willie today"
I mean Smith and Wagner were both getting warmed up, I just figured Joe would come up first then Billy. Even when Billy got in a jam in the 9th I still felt like he was going get out of that. Billy used to make me nervous, all that drama ya know. But not this year.

So let’s see if the Mets can keep it going tonight with Perez and Wang on the hill.
Predictions? Nah, ya know, it’s Perez, anything can happen, and Wang has been pitching very well, much more consistently than Ollie. But if Perez pitches really well and the Mets win, it changes everything. Then the Mets can go to Atlanta feeling confident and come out of that series in first place.

Damn, I love baseball!

My bad I said Reyes took the cutoff from Church on the relay strike to nail Damon at home, instead of Castillo.!oops!I worked and only caught glimpses of the game and read accounts....I hate working on days like this for New York area baseball!

But Ryan Church is proving a damn good acquisition by Omar Minaya so far!..|

That passion by Willie Randolph I think is something that burns quietly but with determination within him....he was an old school Yankee player who never was known for demonstrativeness but solid, steady consistency as a player and a coach.I hope things turn around and Willie doesn't have to hear about being replaced any time soon.

I agree, Willie in't goin anywhere. Just more specualtion by all those "experts" in the press
I LOVE Ryan Church. Brian Schneider has done an outstanding job as well,
I like the way he calls a game and teaches and works with the young pitchers.
We got all that for that Millidge dude, no loss there.

kicking the yanks butts

11-2 now

woo hoo

I am sooooooooo gonna torture my Yankee fan friends all day today

That was an awesome home run Ryan hit last night to dead center, probably a good 425 feet or so!He was robbed by Melky Cabrera of a double in the ninth, but he ripped that ball as well.I wrote earlier after he was acquired that I felt Ryan had the ability to be a real late bloomer like Paul O'Neill was for the Yankees, and he is doing just that.He may not have the upside of Lastings Milledge in the long run,but if he hits even .280-.290,25 homers,100 RBI with his talent defensively and effort,we'll gladly take that. And Brian Schneider is contributing with the bat as well, hitting over .300 and handling pitchers well while playing strong defense, qualities as good offensively as he was Paul LoDuca never really had defensively.

I am SO proud of Oliver Perez! He really got me pissed losing it a bit in the fourth after getting the 4-0 lead and giving up the home run to Matsui and making a few head-scratching pitches, causing thoughts of another puzzling, frustrating implosion to run through mine and many other Met fans heads. He completely went the other way and righted himself, made outstanding pitches, didn't try to overthrow the ball and controlled the game.Oliver went 7 and 2/3 innings, first time this year he has gone at least seven innings and pitched like a playoff stud caliber pitcer.Hope this gets him going, and as he aced a really tough test so it can only help him.

The whole team effort was encouraging to me.That they exploded for six more runs in the eighth, putting it away with Jose Reye's second homer in as many games at Yankee Stadium reminded me how much they can excite their fans with their promise.Reyes is looking much more comfortable at the plate, and seems happier than he's been in a while. We know when he starts going well, the Mets lineup really gels and lots of runs come crossing the plate.

I liked David Wright going with the pitch and not forcing things with his double in the eighth. When he's going well,he goes to all fields and he's looking more like the David Wright we all know...so much fun to watch!

Delgado clearly as the replays showed actually did hit a three run homer in the fourth inning, and the reverse of the home run call was a blunder I'm glad had no bearing on the outcome of the game.Replays clearly show the ball hitting on the foul pole screen, clearly a fair ball, and richocheting foul. They were having fun with it throughout the game, showing where it hit and impacted numerous times.

Let's hope all the good stuff from this Subway Series gets the Mets ready to take at least a couple from Atlanta starting tomorrow.

You are so wright (yeah I know that's how i spell right now) :D
Ollie was awesome, just 3 hits in 7 and two thirds. I got a little concerned after he gave up that 2 run homer, I was afraid he would crash and burn again like last week. But I kept my confidence level up and sure enough he refocused and came back strong. He showed a great slider , threw for strikes, keeping it in the strike zone. He sure loves those lefties, chews em up and spits em out. I also liked how he has gained trust in Schnider letting Brian call the game, I can almost hear Brian saying, Just follow my calls Ollie and let me guide you.
Schnider is so good at that.

Yeah that ws a major mess up on the umps part, what bothered me is how quickly the call was changed. Also where was Girardi in all this? it was Damon and Jetter who started the whole thing. Since when do the umps change calls based on the players imput ? Girardi never came out of the dugout. Like you said, the ball was fair, it hit the pole in fair territory and then bounced into foul territory, and THAT's fair ball.
He needs to find another line of work and get a seeing eye dog.

OK Atlanta your next

I second that, we need more imput from all the baseball fans out there in JUB land
Keep em coming syam:wave:

^ Well, anyone but the New York Yankees I always say!

Beating the Yankees is what the Mets are supposed to do, and that is beat up on the weak teams. I am feeling really good about the idea that now we are gonna do better against the big guns.
I expect 3 out of 4 this week against Atlanta. A double header today, this afternoon should be a great game with Glavin on the mound, who you know we have to crush and with Maine on the hill for us it should be an easy win. I dono much about the kid pitching for Atlanta tonight, but we have Vargas who pitched well in his first outing.
I'm just sorry we won't face Smoltz in this series. It would have been nice to get a shot at him right about now. Beating him would be just what we need right now.

Let's hope we do better in Atlanta than we normally do. It's been a house of horrors in the past. I feel good about Maine pitching anytime he's out there. Just hope the bats stay awake.

I hear that!!

I want us to win 3 out of the 4 games in Atlanta which would put us 5 games over 500 and in first place. Then next week we take care of the Marlins.

Robert really doesn't like the Yankees!;)

God,sonny......I'm so disappointed about the doubleheader Atlanta sweep.:(Maine really shocked me.As tough as Perez was against the Yankees,Maine just did not have it today. You don't want to get me started about Aaron Fucking Heilmann.:mad:Tonight was equally disappointing. No offense again...damn it,we just can't be consistent. That's why I am skeptical after a win or two, even good ones....there doesn't yet seem to be the ability to string a solid winning streak to vault us back top of the division.I hope for the best the next two against Atlanta, but expect the worst.Just too much frustration with these Mets!

Well obviously things did not go well for us yesterday, losing both games was a little hard to swallow.
In the first game Maine was not at his best, I could see his usually killer change up was high in the zone; he could not locate his fast ball and just could not hit his spots. Glavin on the other hand was dominant and simply shut the Mets down. But unlike others I know I still have respect for Glavin, I wanted him crushed yesterday but I loved watching him pitch. He fooled the Mets with his changing speeds and kept them off balance, a very smart pitcher who knows he aint what he used to be and smart enough to pitch for defense. The Mets Offensive was dismal, once again they played a couple of great games and then fall back and play like crap. I dono what to say about that, it’s very frustrating. Heillman was up to his usual bad outing. The good news is, word is out that the Mets are finally looking to get rid of him; maybe we could get a good set up man in his place. Yeah, good lick with that. I only saw the last three innings of the second game, it’s on my DVR maybe I’ll watch it, maybe I won’t.
Also Sosa is officially gone Good riddens!

I am concerned about Ryan Church who was hospitalized on Tuesday due to suffering a mild concussion, AGAIN. Church collided with Escobar while trying to break up a double play. Church's head slammed into Escobar's right knee and stayed on the ground for a couple of minutes after the play but did not lose consciousness. Church got a nasty scrape on the upper-right part of his forehead
The Braves' doctors said that Church's concussion Tuesday night wasn't as serious as the one he suffered in Spring Training, but because it was the second one in less than three months, they recommended that he be examined at the hospital. Hopefully the news later today will be good. First of all he is a terrific guy, personable and well liked. Second he is one-hell-of-a ball player and the last thing we need now is to lose him even for a short time.

Mike Piazza has retired, which I kinda expected him to do. Best of luck to Mike who’s 396 homers are easily the most as a catcher; I loved him as a Met. Mike retires after a 16-season career in which he became one of the top-hitting catchers in history. Not much of a throwing arm but he did call an excellent game.

i saw the replays of Ryan Church's injury and really felt terrible.Hopefully it is like thery say not as bad as his spring raining concussion and he is just day to day.We need more pleasant surprises like him this year.

Heilmann can pitch and has lots of talent.....his mechanics are fucked up and he is unhappy about remaining in the bullpen, but suck it up and get the job done and maybe you'll be in a better position later. He is hurting the club, and killing his own marketability by his stretch of awful performances, and now everyone has just about had it.

Glavine outpitched Maine and deserved to win,but I still have lots of faith in John Maine's ability to dust himself off and go out with 100% focus in his next start. He does not rattle easily and that helps him avoid long bad stretches.

Sorry to see Mike Piazza retire, and I just wish his last three years with the Mets were as outstanding as his first few. What an offensive force as a catcher, and a quality person as well. Thanks for your contributions as a Met,Mike....you gave us thrills and excitement and credibility and best of luck in your future endeavors!Next stop...Hall of Fame!..|

I don't get this team at all.I just don't know what else to say,but they are an extreme disappointment and I don't know if we'll ever get a decent winning streak out of them.they are playing like a mediocre, unmotivated nonentity.

Yup, I totally agree. You sound like I feel, just disgusted.
So will Santana stop the bleeding tonight? I mean isn't that one of his jobs?
Will the Mets fall to a sweep and end up below .500 ?.
Hudson pitches for Atlanta, he is 8-5 lifetime against The Mets.
Mercifully I have a wedding rehearsal and party tonight so I won't have to suffer through the possibility of an Atlanta sweep. My dad has promised not to bother me with blackberry updates so I can enjoy myself. So I'll get a little drunk, come home and check out the final score, laugh my ass off and go to bed. What else can ya do, it's just a big joke now.
BUT I love my Mets, I will never give up on them. In fact I think my devotion to this team gives me licence to beat up on them once in while. trouble is, except for the Yankee series, I have been doing a lot of that since there has not been much to cheer about lately.

The great news is Church is doing really well and may even play tonight.
The bad news is Alou has a strained calf muscle and may be gone for a while
Martinez who was supposed to have a bullpen session today, but has left to fly to the Dominican Republic where his father had had a setback in his battle with cancer. No word on when he will be back. Then of course there is Willie crying and complaining about how badly he is being treated by the media and the fans. Oh boo hoo, Willie, grow up, man up, and get your team back on track with some consistent wins. What bullshit, the pressure is obviously getting to him.

The only thing keeping me sane is the fact that the Yankees are actually playing worse than the Mets. Otherwise my friends who are Yankee fans would be pounding me with no mercy right now. Trouble is I deserve it cause last year when the Yankees choked I was a pit bull, making all the Yankee fans crazy.
So this yar we kinda just console one another, you know, like true baseball fans do.
