OK so the NL lost, again.
But you did not think I would let the day go without a couple a pictures of
David Wright and Billy weagner at the game did you.

David struck out twice and got a single later to be tagged out in a fielders choice. But it's ok, cause he played in the game and that's got to be an awesome memory and accomplishment for the boy.

Great pics as always sonny!I just love the passion and dedication to the game David has and it always shows....he loves what he's doing and is well regarded by his peers because he's a genuine good guy.I loved that broken bat hit.....I mean if you're gonna break your bat and get a hit out of it,break the bat in half like that!I was happy he got a hit out of it after two strikeouts,I just think he was a bit too pumped up earlier finally getting on this All Star team after all the voting and player snubs.He was an All Star the previous two seasons and though he hasn't been quite as consistent this year he definitely belonged on the squad.I just feel so bummed I couldn't be off yesterday,or I would have never missed this unbelievable parade of All Stars past and current.

Loved the last shot of Yankee Stadium...last night was a classy,fitting send off and if not the best played All Star game ever,still an incredible experience for New York area baseball and all baseball fans.It was the longest one ever played,and I'm glad that with the pressure of no extra available players left,Michael Young's short pop fly was still enough to score Justin Mourneau and give a 4-3 win to the AL rather than risk the unthinkable debacle of having to end the game as a tie.

I can't add much to what you already wrote. It was a great game, an amazing ceremony and last hurrah for the stadium. (unless there is a world series there)
yeah, right, not unless the Yankees pull a Mets and come out fighting real soon.

I don't think David was to disappointed in his performance, cause as you wrote,
he was so pumped up and excited just to be a part of it and to be with all of those other amazing players. Ya know, like a kid in the candy store.

I don't think the game could have ended with a tie because of the new home field advantage rule, which by the way, is a great incentive to win. But when they almost ran out of pitchers David was asked if he would pitch. Can you imagine, David Wright on the pitchers mound in an All Star game. Man oh man, that would have been one of the greatest kicks in my baseball loving life. As third baseman myself, who also pitches, I can wrap my head around what that would be like for D Wright.
Damn, that would have been awesome.

Thanks sonny....all those Hall of Famers,it was unbelievable!I even was a little misty-eyed with the honoring of George Steinbrenner.He's been both bad and good for the Yankees and baseball as a whole,but it can't be denied he has definitely made a lastimg mark on the game.I just wish I could have seen that parade on Sixth Avenue of all the past and present All Stars....what an incredible New York and baseball moment and I could not get out of work!I missed seeing my David,God what a smile!!!


Ten in a row...I didn't believe this team could do it.But this is a seriously different team from a month ago.They have EVERYONE contributing...love Fernando Tatis keeping ion doing what amazing clutch hitting he's been doing,Argenis Reyes has been a find and is quite a nioce little player....Delgado,Beltran and Wright have got their grooves going on and though there will be bumps,this club is as capable as Philly or Florida of taking the NL East.

Wherever did they get Argenis Reyes from,who started that rally and is in the middle of lots of good things happening!Tatis just has been incredible,David is ripping the cover off the ball now in the clutch and even Delgado is showing both power and great situational clutch hitting again,with his looping RBI to the opposite field...and Damion Easley,what a year when it looked like another injury plagued season out of Luis Castillo.It was a bit of a concern Aaron Heilmann took a step back allowing the three runs on base when Schoenweis gave up the double....but Billy Wagner provided a solid 123 inning,thankfully no antacids were needed!

Hell,a couple more bananas for you sonny and all Mets fans!

Last nights game aside, the Mets have also started coming back and winning games again. Something they have not done in a while.
Tatis is so much fun to watch, he is so comfortable at the plate and has a nice swing. He is gettin the job done. I also like A.Reyes I mean who needs Castillo?
We can't forget the turn around for Delgado who is back baby.
Wagner still scares me, I kinda have to watch him with one eye closed.
He blew the All Star game for us, (NL) he is the reason the game went so long.
I am not worried about Heilman, I think he will be ok. It's Maine I worry about, I mean how come he hasn't won a game since Peterson left?
Santana is beginning to bug me as well, he blamed his last loss on he fact that he could not take a pen session cause the stadium was closed preparing for Billy Joel.
What a crock, he could not find anywhere to pitch?, no mounds anywhere? Give me a call next time, my dad has one in his backyard. Stop it Johan, you are embarrassing yourself.

I mentioned having watched Pagan do a rehab in Brooklyn, but he never batted righty. Well he finally did and it did not go well. The shoulder will need surgery, he is getting a second opinion and if surgery is needed he will have it and his season will be over. Thats to bad
Hernandez has had another set back, he left rehab early cause his foot is bothering him again. I'll tell ya boys, I dono if he is ever comin back.
Church will not be in the lineup on Tuesday as originally hoped, he says he feels good but the Mets want to wait a little longer.
Pedro is going to pitch the opener with the Phillies, I am not happy about that at all. That is a very important series, I don't have enough faith in Pedro to let him pitch in it. We will need our pen in perfect form that day cause with Pedro on the mound they will be needed early.

I guess Jerry Manual read my post about Martinez pitching in the Phillies series and it looks now like Pedro won’t pitch after all. They wanna give him a little more time, ok what ever you have to tell yourself. The fact is we need that series and Pedro is not gonna help us get it. So now we will have Santana/Maine and Perez. Yeah, I know those three lost all their last starts, but I still have more confidence in them than Pedro. Maine is the one I can’t figure out. I mean his stuff is there, a 96 MPH fast ball, awesome slider and change, but he seems to be more concerned about painting the corners. Plus he is way too hard on himself, maybe part of his trouble is mental, he does not how good he is. I also see a lot of pitches are up and away, I think that may be because he opens up a little too soon. Everything is up in the strike zone; I did not see him do that when he was winning games.

Big pitching match up today with Pelfrey and Volquez, it should be good.

Great game yesterday with both teams coming back to lead a few times with the amazins finishing them off in the 10th. It was good to see Reyes back on the bases again after all those pop ups the last few days. Jose also broke the team record held by Mookie Wilson with his 63rd career triple.
Jose (roadrunner) Reyes can really fly around those bases; seriously, sometimes I think his feet don’t even touch the ground.

I was concerned about Volquez who has been pitching really well, but the Mets owned him and wore him out. Pelfrey was not as sharp as he has been, but he kept fighting and never crashed. Sorry he did not get the win but that has happened a couple of times where the Mets won a game with Mike on the mound and he did not get the win.

I have been thinking about Pedro, while I am glad he won’t pitch in the Phillies series we do need him on Saturday against Cory’s cards. We need a pitcher that day so what happens if he is still not ready?

If any of you guys saw the game you noticed Manuel coming to the mound after Wagner threw his first pitch; not much was said about why but it turns out they noticed Billy may have been hurting. Billy shrugged it off and said he was fine to pitch, which he did. But today Billy is going to have his shoulder looked at, seems he felt a little tightness in his shoulder.

Looks like the Mets won’t face Cole Hamels and that’s a good think. The Phillies have Perez to worry about cause he is a Phillies killer.

So a day off today and then the Phillies, can you smell the excitement?

Getting psyched, but however this series turns out, it is still relatively early, with lots of baseball left to be played. Can't read too much into the outcome whichever way it turns out. However, A sweep by the Mets would be delightful!!!

I like the way you think
As you say there is a lot of baseball left, however I really really want to win this Phillies series or even sweep them. There is just something about this particular series, an air of excitement, similar to the one you get during the playoffs.
The Mets and Phillies are yesterdays Mets and Atlanta, the rivarly is electric, especially at Shea where the fans are gonna go nuts with every Mets achievement and even more nuts with every Philly strike out. It is gonna be awesome. I am counting down the hours to the first pitch.
Our boys have not seen much of Joe Blanton, who by the way almost became a Met, so the first and second inning might be a time of getting to know him, but by the second time at the plate our guys will make him wish he never left Oakland. Santana is due for a major win and baby, tonights the night.

I don't even think about Hernandez and Alou anymore.I just assume we've seen the last of them in a Mets uniform.Billy Wagner has a dominating inning saving the 7-5 win over the Reds,and the arm thing troubling him seems to be what he thought,a strained muscle but no shoulder tear and he may pitch this series...though I'm with you sonny and don't know anymore what to expect from his save opportunities,which I call understatedly Billy Wagner's Ninth Inning Experience....one coaster no Mets fan ever wants to ride!

Mets lose 5-2 lead in the ninth when the Billy Wagner Ninth Inning Experience is replaced by the Bullpen Joint Effort Meltdown!Phillies score six runs after Johann Santana goes a strong eight giving up just two runs.Endy Chavez commits the grievous sin of getting thrown out at the plate twice with noone out,after consecutive David Wright hits,a double and single.We got one run off Lidge in the ninth,but not enough....disappointing.

Thank you Jerry Manuel for allowing this one to get away. Had no business taking Santana out of the game, especially with Wagner not available. And what the hell was the third base coach, Aguayo, thinking about, sending Chavez home with no outs and Beltran, Delgado, Easley to follow. What a disaster last nite was.

WHAT A NIGHTMARE!

The Mets were playing well and as I suggested made Blanton wish he never left Oakland. Santana was on his game and everything was going really well for us. Then came the bottom of the ninth, and everything fell apart. With Billy’s shoulder in question we had to go to someone else to close, and that someone was Sanchez who blew it big time.
Actually the whole poison pen (Sausy's name for em) blew it. I mean WTF, I thought we had passed that and the pen was finally performing well. What happens if Billy is out for a while, are we in trouble or what? I know sometimes I bitch about Billy but after last night I appreciate him a little more.
I agree with you syam 224, that's the second time Manuel pulled Sanytana from finishing a game and both times it ended in disaster.

Then there was Chavez getting thrown out at home TWICE, did he blow a stop sign or is our new third base coach Aguayo, blind or an idiot or both. HE WAS OUT BY A MILE, he had no chance in either case, NONE WHAT SO EVER.

But getting back to Santana, I thought he pitched really well. I worry about the diminishing speed of his fastball, but last night he got it up to about 91/92 which is down from his days of 95/96. I guess those days are over. It did not effect his change up though; he slowed it down to an effective speed. As you know when you through a change up you slow the pitch speed down from a fast ball and if your top fast ball speed is 92 it can be a problem. It also affects your ability to fool the batters. But he did really well. I donno if we will ever see Santana back to his old form, he is now 8th in both strike outs and innings pitched, he should be in the top 5.
Santana threw his 1500th strikeout last night, another ball for the trophy case. Congrats Johan.

So tonight we have Maine, come on Johnny get your groove back baby.

he owned utley/howard - 3x each

carlos d with an opposite field (yep) double to drive in 2 in the 8th

billy wags with the save

jaime moyer was terrific for phils - 2 hits/1 run - lucky he's such an old MOFO they had to take him out after 7 - mets couldn't touch him

rollins did not start - crazy

that nightmare loss on tues is a distant memory

kudos to manuel for keeping them on track
