New York Mets 2008

MMM Youkilas ass.The look on Mike Lowell's face is PRICELESS:badgrin:
He does look like he's admiring it!Imagine if it were Jason Varitek's.....what a hot butt!!!:gogirl::sex:

Oh baby, what Sausy and I would give to see David Wright do that on stage. *faints*

I think the way A-Rod is playing, Hankenstein may have to offer discounts.
I go to watch the Cyclones play in Brooklyn as often as I can, and they play better than this current Yankee team.
I'm fainting "wright" with you at that prospect!;)

You get more out of your money watching the Cyclones play nearby for a bargain price.

Hankenstein probably would love a huge discount from the contract he screwed himself into taking on with A-Rod after seeming to push him out the door. After that, nobody buys anything that comes out of his mouth.

OMFG! What a hottie.

HOLYBEJESUS!I nearly died.*|*
Just imagine David looking like that in the perfect pair of jeans!*|*

A great win last night, even if Luis Ayala threatened to turn one hell of a thrilling comeback into a devastating loss....he kept his bearings and finally squeezed out that excruciatingly delayed last out to preserve a 5-4 victory over the Marlins.Damn I was screaming for joy when Beltran belted that grand slam.....this incredible Mets rally starting with Gregg walking Castillo, giving up a smash single by David Wright and hitting Carlos Delgado leading up to the Beltran slam came about so suddenly, with two outs.Mets look like they were sleepwalking offensively throughout the game, leaving Oliver Perez dangling after a good effort down 2-1 going into the ninth inning..But that's the mark of a winner.......resiliency and knowing how to find a way to win!:D

^did u notice that Manuel had NO intention of taking ayala out?

i was kinda shocked

he was grooving them pretty good (or pretty bad)

what a nail biter

loved that we got it all started with 2 outs and castillo started it

david with a single

carlos - u know the relief pitcher was peeing in his pants ........... and hit him

then carlos 2

woo hoo

bottom on 9th craziness not withstanding .........

its great to be a mets fan

The Mets know how to keep it exciting, don't know how much my heart can take though.

Holy crap what a ninth inning.

Once again the boys did what they do and that is come from behind to win games.
Two outs bottom of the 9th, and bam, one Met after another gets the job done. Loading up the bases and then Beltran belts a grand slam to bring in 4 runs. WOW!
I dono if that was a fastball or a hanging slider he hit but he smoked that ball.
Did you hear the cheers from the crowd; I mean where there any Marlins fans in that stadium?

Of course what would a Mets game these days without drama from our pen, and as you said Sausy, Ayala provided plenty of that. I agree with you Chance, I was waiting for Jerry to pull the trigger on him, glad he didn't When the fish brought in two runs of him and came within one run of tying I damn near lost my mind. Especially when Canto took that slider and drove it deep into foul territory, hey for sure my heart stopped. I gotta mention D Wrights absolutely amazing gold glove play and Murphy who played that ball brilliantly to avoid another run from scoring. Like you said Syam, what a heart stopping 9th inning.
The bad news is we left 10 guys on base, we have to stop doin that. Wrights bases loaded strike out was a heartbreaker. As was Church’s foul ball caught by Wes Helms, You have to give the guy credit for a great play. It reminded me of a similar great catch made by Carlos Gomez who was hurt badly enough to finish him off for the season. Helms is lucky he did not get hurt.

Have you heard about Pavano? Apparently he cleared wavers and is available, do we want this guy? I think not.

So it’s big Pelf tonight, and we still are not sure about who will replace Maine on Tuesday. I head some talk about Niese but he pitched in AAA last night and went a disappointing 2 2/3 innings, throwing a whooping 65 pitches. Jon pitching against the Brewers, oh yeah, that concerns me. Will they give Figueroa another shot? We should know today or tomorrow, then just hope and pray for the best.
Still waiting anxiously to see what happens with the expanded roster on Monday, mu guess is we will see at least 10 more guys but I hear Fernando Martinez won’t be one of them. Don’t know why and I will be disappointed if he does not make it back up. Kunz is iffy as well.

If Murphy doesn't cut off the ball, this game gets tied.Agreed sonny,a tremendous play and this kid's got instincts,I tell you!Wright's had a few of those dazzlers lately. While his throwing may still be erratic,David has the great reflexes and timing to be a damn good third baseman outside of his considerable offensive ability.

I made a goof!oops!.....said Castillo got a walk after two outs to start the rally but he slapped a single.

Sonny,Pavano did a great job for the Yankees last night....second good start in a row. This guy has got to earn his place on a major league roster, and he did act like an asshole at times these past few years. But despite the injuries, accidents and a general concensus Carl was not motivated, his disastrous four seasons with the Yanks was completely defensible in terms of the wisdom of signing him at the time.He just got off a tremendous year, was terrific in the playoffs and World Series against the Yanks in 2003 and was seen as one of the rising young pitching studs of the game.Things just didn't work out partlydue to injuries, partly due to his irresponsibility regarding the infamous car accident.I would never bet on him but you never know....he may still have some clutch games left in him.

Sorry to hear Fernando Martinez doesn't appear to be one of the Met's intended call ups for September 1.I'm sure we'll see him by next September if he does well in Triple A next season.Niese supposedly was held back so he wouldn't go too many innings, will reportedly be in Maine's spot in the rotation. It was to keep him ready to pitch upon callup rather than being taken out because he wasn't performing...a precautionary measure.

Mets lose 4-3.Poison pen strikes again.Pelfrey pitched so much better against the Marlins, gave the Mets the lead and an opportunity to hold their lead against the Phillies, now one game as they beat the Cubs.Again, the offense sputtered late and the Mets can't consistently put away teams. With this unpredictable bullpen, that's the only way the Mets win the division...if they keep taking it to their opponents and wearing them down.Sanchez and Heilmann were useless tonight.:grrr:

Well how do you beat what happened last night? #-o

When Sanchez came to the mound I said, “Oh shit, that’s it game over”
But with Heilman I thought maybe he would do well. After all, he pitched great against the Phillies last week and generally is pretty good against the Marlins. So what does that fool do, a bases loaded walk to score the winning run. Thing is I reacted in a very strange way, instead of jumping up screaming at the TV as I usually would in a situation like that, I actually busted out laughing. :rotflmao:
I mean say what you want, watching a Mets game is like watching no other team, cause you never know what the fuck is gonna happen. I tell ya boys, good or bad they sure keep it interesting.
D Wright started things off with a homer, funny; I thought everyone knew you don’t pitch David a breaking ball. I guess the Marlins never got that memo. Let’s keep that our little secret ok? :-$
How about that little baby Cory Ross and his reaction to getting hit by that pitch, what an asshole. Of course Pelf did not do that intentionally. Talk about overreacting; grow up punk, all 5’2 of you.
Just shows you how frustrated some of those Marlins are. But the best part was when Pelfrey picked him off at first, that was awesome. Did you see the smirk on Mikes face as he left the mound? Priceless.

Sausy, yeah Fernando is not coming up but A. Reyes is, expect to see him in Milwaukee. Another good thing is it looks like we won’t face Sabathia in that series, I was glad to see that.

I want to clarify something I said about Niese in my post yesterday, I wrote how he went only 2 2/3 innings and threw 65 pitches. Apparently he was not pulled out early cause of a bad performance, but so that he could pitch on Tuesday. I get that, but still 65 pitches were too many. With the state of our pen the starters have to go deep into the game and in order to do that the guys have to keep their pitch counts low. 65 pitches in 2 2/3 innings is not gonna cut it.

Well weather permitting Pedro pitches today so expect the pen to come in early, God help us. :help:
It’s not inning by inning with our pen but batter by batter, and it has little to do with righty against lefty. What’s next, pitch by pitch?
Poor Jerry, this has got to be a bitch for him to figure out every game. It has got to stop, seriously, IT HAS GOT TO STOP!

But like I said, ya gotta love watching our amazins, cause every day is an adventure

woo hoo

big win today

anyone see reyes play in the bottom of the 9th? - cantu hits a smash with 2nd and 3rd on - 2 outs - between jose and david - wow - he lept and caught it (snowconed it) - so exciting - big grin of course

nothing is easy boys

nothing

the bullpen is an adventure and will continue to be

i picked up the game in the 7th when the mets took a 3-2 lead and expanded it to 6-2 so i only saw the OMG moments that are synonomous with this team

was out last night so missed completely the heilman melt down - have u seen his stats? holy shit 3-8 5.25 era - yikes - on paper he blows - still like him and can picture him as an excellent starter (3-4) - maybe im nuts - his #s are SOOOOOOO bad

i really feel for manuel as u just never know who will have the "right stuff" or if anyone will

as sonny said, everyday IS and adventure

and i love it

couple things im noticing

this team reminds me a bit of the bobby v teams - with so many not so famous types doing terrific jobs - today evans had a solo hr - endy chavez seems to be fully back to form - damian easley - murphy - cancel - and im sure im missing a few - bobby v could work that bench magic like no one else - making ALL the players feel part of it

god i love this team

great posting with u guys

A pleasure posting with you too chance!

I was working today so missed the game but checked on my computer when I got home for a game summary.Love the bounce back from yesterday with a solid game from Pedro and efficient team relief...they used everyone it appears except Ayala.

David Wright,Carlos Beltran,Nick Evans providing home runs...Reyes continuing to perform offensively and defensively like possibly the most exciting player in MLB.It is a ride with the Mets, but the exciting part now is that you can see the mental toughness of this team that allows it to be resilient after tough defeats...just would like the Mets to establish more consistency.Feeling a lot better today than last night guys....wish I could sonny like you laugh off a game like last night but I get so intensely into it as healthy an approach it is it would be difficult for me.But you guys are right, this club is never boring..it's always something, good or bad.;)

Yea sonny,I'm glad the Mets won't be facing Sabathia who pitched a one hitter today vs Milwaukee the next few days.God,he's tough but I think we match up well otherwise.Sheets is the only one who I'm realy concerned about but think he's a better match than a Sabathia working on all cylinders,as he is now.

Don't worry about the Niese thing, sonny.I didn't know about the 65 pitches part in his being taken out the other night. That is a hell of a lot of pitches for less than three innings...certainly may well affect how long he could go in his Mets debut.

Glad to see that Argenis Reyes is being brought backup for the September call ups.He was one of the new blood players who realy seemed to find himself in a clutch Mets rally..always helping generate a spark for the team.Would have loved to see Fenando Martinez in the last month of the season but expect him to be ready by next September to do some big time offensive stuff for the Mets.

sorry i missed pedro - seems like i havent seen him in a while - but he's doin good so no complaints

reyes truly is an exciting player - his enthusiasm, zest really - so positive - don't get a whiff of the "showing up" stuff - wonder about that - some of that was bull - keeping a young guy down with rules + regs "how it's done" so to speak

seems like david wright makes an outstanding play just about every night now (defense) - he is really a complete player

u know what it is for me guys ....... the idea that a bad loss is just a bad loss and not the beginning of ...........

not sure when it started but manuel is so sound - so chill - so firm - so right for this team - its a great vibe

not sure this bullpen by committee thingy is gonna work l/t but ........

i remember being at a mets/mariners game - wanna say early june - they got hammered by double digits i think - shut down by a minor league knuckleballer - and i said to my friend as we left the ballpark "they're done"

haha

pretty AMAZIN stuff eh?

enjoy whats left of the long weekend boys

Gotta love our man Reyes

great posting with u guys

It's great havin you here Bryan, we have to support our guys bad times and good.

wish I could sonny like you laugh off a game like last night but I get so intensely into it as healthy an approach it is it would be difficult for me.But you guys are right, this club is never boring..it's always something, good or bad.;)

I could not help myself, it was an involuntary reaction, ya know like after a while you just have to think, wtf are ya gonna do

I agree, and I am glad he is up against Santana today, gives us a fighting chance. It's going to be the quintessential pitchers duel for sure

Absolutely, generally they add about 4-5 guys but as I said I expect at least 10 this time with more to follow later. Sure hope half of em are pitchers

Chance, you're so right....at the time the Mets were pretty much left for dead and every Mets fan was resigned into thinking maybe next year will bring the Mets back.I think Willie Randolph did a very good job leading the Mets to the division seres in 2006,but after the collapse of last September he just seemed to have lost the club psychologically. The Mets just seemed to have given up,or at least were plagued into a panicky freefall it appeared nobody could halt.

Jerry Manuel brought a new managing style,a tough but far looser one personally than the usually wound up Randolph. That maybe helped ease tension among the playersand they just bought into how he wanted things done...occasionally,as we all know;)a blip backward occurs, and we have had to deal with season threatening injuries to Billy Wagner and John Maine...Pedro Martinez slowly getting back in the groove redefining himself a a master of the art of mixing pitches.Getting back Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado to be the feared, devastating combo of speed and power that really made the Mets lineup click.but overall look where we are now.First place with a 77-61 record, and one of the more entertaining teams around. And when we go through a bad loss, that is all it is.We focus more and have done a tremendous job putting together hopefully a very memorable goodbye to Shea.

Sonny,it took a strained groin to knock out Ben Sheets(who pitched very well,no runs and two hits in five innings)but we got to Eric Gagne(who has gone from a world class reliever to a world class human batting machine)and Carlos Delgado did it again.Mets won 4-2 with three runs highlighted by Delgado's smash two-run homer off of Gagne in the eighth.Dan Murphy, sizzling Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes all had two hits.

Johann Santana pitched well, two runs in six innings and the bullpen was clockwork.Ayala dusted off nearly blowing an incredible Mets comeback in his last outing and just did the job. That's what we have to do...take a professional approach and do what we failed to accomplish last September.Bring the Mets into the playoffs on a great run.

Nice post Sausy, you nailed it ..|

Well I for one was not sorry to see Sheets leave the game,
ya hate to se a guy hurt but this is a pennant race damn it. ;)

I have some thoughts to share about the balk issued against Santana.
Johan committed the balk when he stepped off; as a lefty he has to step off on the foot that is on the rubber, which he did not do. BUT, although Santana clearly did commit the balk I blame Schneider for it. After Brian gave the signs to Johan and a pitch selection was agreed on, Schneider threw in another sign just as Santana was about to throw the pitch. This just confused him and he stepped off on the wrong foot. Totally Schneider’s fault; in fact if you saw the interchange in the dugout after the inning you can clearly see Santana glaring at Schneider, basically thinking, WTF.

Oh boys, our bull pen has been starting to get it together. Alaya has an awesome sinker, and Figueroa is very much on his game. Three scoreless innings yesterday
what’s that you say? Madness you say? Unheard of?
We have won the last 18 out of 25. :=D:

Billy Wagner will pitch in a bullpen session this week and could be back soon

Thanks sonny!I love your observations....you really pay attention to the replays and call it as you see it.You really love the game AND respect how it should be played. You're tough but fair and I have rarely if ever thought your perspective to be off. Can't blame Santana for that balk....he probably damn well was thinking "WTF"?!!! seeing Schneider change the sign all out of the blue.

Yep,sonny...what a change!A more flexible, reliable bullpen and a great record this past month.Who'd have thought it?The Mets have really impressed their fans with how much they have grown in their confidence and maturity this season. I think a considerable credit to that goes to Jerry Manuel and the strength, discipline, passion and humor he's displayed guiding this team out of a tremendous mess.Hopefully Billy Wagner will be ready to close the regular season off strong heading into the playoffs but we've shown great adaptibility in the bullpen in his absence. That makes for a stronger, more prepared bullpen that knows what they have to do to support the starters.

I was just hoping Ayala would be able to stay in the game after he reaggravated his groin strain. He got the tough Richie Weeks and ended that little detour positively.Great job by the pen in picking up Jon Niese who most probably was too pumped up.But the 6-5 final was another testament to the nner toughness of the Mets. They keep being tested and are doing a great job responding to whatever gets thrown at them.

Carlos Beltran is red hot, with a three run homer that appeared to help put the Mets comfortably ahead.Niese could not hold it giving up five runs in three innnings. But that bullpen effort was outstanding.Figueroa and Stokes really are impressing.

David Wright may be hitting a small bump in the road offensively, but another incredible play defensively backhanding the ball and getting the out..David continues playing like this and he has a great opportunity to win a Gold Glove. Great play by Chavez getting the runner at second and squelching a Milwaukee rally, and his sacrifice fly scored Dan Murphy with the winning run. Murphy could have been used earlier but apparently Jerry Manuel held off because of a hunch to use him later and he responded with the hit that led to Chavez' sacrifice fly that won the game.Love his toughness and grinding style of play...He's a keeper. His ability to have really good at bats and playing hard, all out ball every time has deservedly made him a fan favorite.

Yes chance,Mets are so exciting and we're LOVING it!..|

I loved reading the posts from Sausy and Chance about last nights game

You are both so right about Easley, man that was an awesome throw, how the heck did he do that, not an easy one for a lefty. :=D:
As for Weeks he deserved to be called out with that ridiculous slide, [-X I mean what the heck was that? I learned that in little league you gotta slide feet first in a play like that. Plus he ran the bases badly, that was a wide turn at first, I thought he was gonna hit the warning track. What an Idiot.
Then our boy David making another gold glove pay in the 10th taking that double away from Hart and throwing him out. ..|

Well another nail bitter last night.
But let’s start with Niese, 30 pitches in the first inning was what I was worried about going in, but then he cut that in half for the second so I started to feel a little better, but then, Oh Boy! Look, the kid had to be nervous as hell I mean think about it, plus his whole family was there and loads of his friends, so not to much pressure. He has a killer curve, I mean really killer, Early on he seemed to be capable of getting himself out of trouble and he also seems to be able to throw all of his pitches for strikes. So he’s got good stuff. Oh, and he needs to learn how to bunt. I hope they give him another shot, we don’t wanna move Figueroa or Stokes out of the pen cause we need em there and Figueroa has been light out. So let’s leave things be for a while. I thought since the Mets waited so long to bring Niese up they prolly wanted him to stay in the line up so let’s hope so. Plus with the two days off over the next couple of weeks we don’t really need a 5th starter right away any way. Wagner may be back soon, he is going to be in Brooklyn with the Cyclones on Thursday which is the next to the last minor league game, so maybe he will pitch, I am going to try and make that game.

The Pen has been awesome, ok so we use a new guy for every batter but what ever works right? Feliciano has been lights out, as was everyone from Feliciano to Alaya, although I was biting my thumb nail to the bone in the 10th. I was not sure Jerry was gonna leave him in especially with Weeks came up to the plate. But I am glad he did. Weeks really blew that at bat, swinging at what was for sure a ball and then swinging at the next ball in the dirt. Niese seems to be struggling a bit with that groin injury.
So 7 more4 scoreless innings from our pen. Nice! Plus we are now 17 games over .500 :gogirl:
I gotta tell you theses late inning wins the Mets are giving us are bad for this 28 year olds heart. :D

But man, talk about great baseball.

So today we need Perez to go deep into the game, the pen needs a deserved rest. Go Ollie!

Got back late from some errands but gonna try to catch some of the game tonight. But what an effort....9-2 annihilation of the Brewers(We sweep the Brewers,we sweep the Brewers!!!):gogirl:Talk later to diiscuss the game,(you guys may want to catch the game later, too)But we are in damn good shape now for the rest of September!Like I said in another post, let's make this goodbye to Shea season one Mets fans will always remember!:D

*did I forget to mention Abs, the Mets swept the Brewers?*:p
