New York Mets 2009

Hey Cory you contribute plenty and it is appreciated. I love my Mets, you love your Cards. ;)
Yeah it was a shut out, man I dono when I saw so many ground balls outs (21) in one game.
Good pitching from Piniero.
Hernandez pitched well again, Just wish he had handled that Ryan bunt better, which of course was exasperated by Murphy.

I wanna talk a bit about our pitching situation today.
Maine and Perez are both back at Citi field today to throw bull pen sessions. Which has me wondering what will happen when one or both come back to the rotation.
Redding and Nieve have both pitched well but when Maine and Perez come back they will have to go. Maine could be back Saturday although I think maybe Redding will get one more turn and then Maine will be back. Perez is further away from returning I don’t see that happening any time soon.
So when Maine comes back who goes Redding or Nieve. I am sure Nieves outing tonight will help determine that. My money would be on keeping Redding and let Nieve go when Ollie comes back. A lot of people think it will be the other way around and Redding will be the first to go. I just prefer to keep Redding now. I am holding my breath when it comes to Maine, I just do not have any confidence that he will return strong. As for Ollie, I have even led confidence. NONE! That guy is a mess and he has not improved a bit since he left, NOT AT ALL.
So in the "Sound Of Music" they sing “How do you solve a problem like Maria” Well for us it’s “How to do solve a problem like Perez” Omar are you kicking yourself in the butt for resigning him yet? Cause I would gladly volunteer to do it for you. So how do we solve a problem like Perez? Well what we don’t do is put him back in the rotation until he has figured out how to pitch again. Manual has said he would not be opposed to the idea of putting Ollie in the pen.
Sure Jerry that will happen a 12 million dollar lefty specialist in the bull pen. Sure, Right
Even if they did, when would we ever use him? He has no control he is always dazed lost and confused, so when could we bring him in? Well the answer is we can’t. How about a $12 million dollar bat boy?

Tonight it’s Fernando Nieve facing Brad Thompson.

sorry guys been awhile

went to the tampa bay game on father's day - shit show with breakdown after brian s hit the 3 run jack

frankly our lineup right now blows - no power, no speed, no .............. anything

beltran, reyes, delgado, maine, perez - holy shit

not even counting putz - and i should

imagine if before the season started you said 1/2 of those guys would be out

what is jerry thinking down 1-0 with castillo on first having livian hit and running - he misses on pitch in dirt and castillo is out by a country mile

what is he thinking?

i know what i'm thinking

BOBBY V

right now we don't have the horses - and before their slaying of tampa bay the phils have been cooperating with their own lackluster play - and they have no real excuses with that lineup

kinda frustrating

i have tix for sat night vs. yanks - my bf's tix

tix are still available - what does that tell you

i could go on and on

but i will spare you

cya guys

Oh Coooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry

What was that you were sayin yesterday about a shutout??
Now 11-0, that’s a shutout.;)
And what happened to the cards defense? Man were they sloppy last night.
Poor Albert, every pitch away we are no fools. :p

Yup that was Argenis Reyes back in the dugout, welcome back dude.
We designated Jon Switzer for assignment.

Syam you gotta keep your nephew away fro Citi Field.:)

Chance I hear you abut Manual, somedays I just wanna choke him and then here are days when I think he is doing a decent job. He drives me nutz in those post game interviews pretty much sayin the same thing over and over. Plus he needs to stop thinking he is Letterman, too many jokes, not funny.

Another one of my boys from Brooklyn First baseman Ike Davis made his Double-A debut yesterday. You may remember me raving about that kid last year. It is one of the thrills I get going to Cyclone games, you get to see theses kids early in their careers and it is so exciting to see them move up in the organization. Brad Holt and Ike Davis were on my radar all last year. I am so pumped to see them making it.

Speaking of the Cyclones, three is talk that Ollie Perez may pitch there on Sunday; if he does I will head over here and check him out. Hopefully I will have some good things to say about him.

Martinez did not do much at the plate but I like his positioning in center field looking for the Cards batters to pull. He did well out there.

Today the Mets offense will have their work cut out for them against the always dangerous Chris carpenter. Santana is on the mound for the Mets.

thought i was watching another team last nite as they recorded hit after hit

crazy

been a lone while since we had that kind of an offensive showing

is david wright cute or what?

who is this nieves? can u believe he is our ace?

sonny above talks about being scared about chris carpenter - when we have Johan going - i kinda agree - but it's kinda sad as well

we're uncertain about Johan - although his last outing was good

when is johnny maine coming back - i miss him

ollie? what a dud - minaya should be ashamed for giving a pretty lazy up/down pitcher big long term money

what's up with brian schneider? he's hitting like a big time player now - i wanted to dump him not castro so i will eat my hat there

what does jose reyes look like again? :)

maybe this is a blessing?

need tatis to hit some - been awhile

we're treading water guys

how long can we do it?

I'm still here you sexy bitch :p

I was at work during the game today, but was watching some of it on my phone. I heard Carp pitched a good game, but our offense just wasn't enough. At least you learned how to pitch to Albert, unlike those that STILL pitch to him...

Dammit you stupid [STRIKE]pond scum[/STRIKE] Mets! :grrr:

*coughapriltwentyfirstcough*

Well Abs it's a good thing I am not the kind a guy who gloats when the Mets have a great series and win three outta four. BUT, in your case I will make an exception. :gogirl::cowboy:--%--:hurray:(!w!)\:/

Hey, Albert :bartshock

Ok Ok I got that outta my system, I only did it cause I love teasin Abs
Hey Cory, come on now. ya know you deserved that (*8*)

Enough silly stuff, it was great to se Johan pitching well again, even though he was not on target, Like Ron Darling pointed out he was a little late with his release but I have seen him do that in the past so I kinda knew he would make the correction. He had me a little worried there in the first two innings but then he turned it around Santana style. Especially when he jammed Pujols with a fastball that ended the inning with two men on. That was huge.

Seriously, catcher’s interference, how desperate.

My man Kevin Burkhardt did a great job filling in for the one and Gary Cohen yesterday.

Doesn’t Nick Evans look great, he just looks so relaxed and confident, I am so glad he has gotten a fresh start. Nick and Murph can platoon at first for as long as Delgado is out, I feel really good about those two in that spot.

Fernando Martinez once again had a bad day at the plate but continues to play outstanding defense. He made a couple of outstanding plays yesterday and it had to make the kid feel good to do that. I gotta figure he was even more excited to see Santana’s Atta-boy reaction.

Of curse we gotta mention K-Rod who walked that tight rope again, too much drama for me, I watched it standing up, could not sit down. I took one big long deep breath after that last put which was prolly the only one I took in the whole inning.

A great job of pitching from both sides, Carpenter was sharp; I love to watch him pitch.

The Mets take on the Yankees this weekend. Tonight it’s Mike Pelfrey and CC Sabathia.

What sonny said!;)

WTF is up with Pelfrey???
In his last two outings he crashed and burned after 5 or 6 innings. Now he is starting games lost and confused. Is he taking lessons from Ollie?? BUT, Pelf’s mistakes in the early innings were no match to the sloppy, little league defense behind him. How embarrassing, I was gloating about the Cards defense and then last night,
ka boom the Mets were even worse. Wright, Cora and Evens gave the Yankees last nights game. In addition we left 14 men on base Of course I also gotta give big time credit to Sabathia who was outstanding he had it all going on last night including striking out a lot of guys, eight I believe. Even without those errors we would have lost anyways the way CC was throwing. Brilliant pitching!

More pitching news from Maine (yeah him again) John says he has soreness and pain in his right shoulder. AGAIN! Is anyone paying attention here?? Are the Mets doctors looking after this kid properly?? I mean how does he feel “great” and declare himself ready to go one day and then the very next day say he is hurtin again. The Mets organization has a history of this kind of shit, for God sake get Maine the help he needs stop shootin him up with cortisone and wait to see what happens. I am so sick of this.
So Maine will not pitch for a while, count on it. He was supposed to pitch for the Cyclones on Saturday but now that ain’t gonna happen. I bet we don’t see him again till, after the All star break. Thank God we have Redding and Nieve.

One last note, A-Rod hit a record breaking *564th homer last night. Notice I put in an asterisk, cause he aint foolin anybody. Try it without the steroids asshole.

Tonight it’s Redding and Burnett

^ that one inning was all I needed to see - a scene from Bad News Bears is what it was

First David makes a throwing error - OK it happens
Pelphrey gives up a single to CC Sabathia - first pitch meatball
double play ball to Cora as SS who flings it past Castillo
ground ball to Evans - oooooops

yikes

it was over right there - 4-0 in the 2nd inning and we're reliving the drop by Castillo at Yankee Stadium that denied us a victory

i get it

we're shorthanded

BUT

this was embarrassing

Tonight wasn't better except they didn't throw the ball away or boot it.I hope the Mets can get another bat but Adam Dunn isn't where we should be going.Maybe Aubrey Huff....preferably an outfieder that wn't iterfere with the development of Daniel Murphy or Nick Evans,if possible. We need a reasonably productive bat with a track record of consistency.....truthfully we could use a pitcher with a heart and healthy arm to help Johann out,as Pelfrey is showing worrying degrees of not having heart and John Maine who has heart can't get healthy. And Redding has health and heart, but isn't that good a pitcher to tell the truth....never has been more than a mediocrity results wise. But that would be prohibitive in what the Mets would have to give up.

Of course we all know the Muts are playing with a weaker squad. Most of our regulars are still out. But yesterday was just weak. They have been so inconsistent, playing so well against St Louis giving us all hope, and then they play those lousy games against the Yankees. I am somewhat forgiving, it is team of irregulars not used to playing together as a unit, but the Cyclones are playing better ball right now.

From what I hear Tim Redding pitched well through five innings, till that Posada three run home run., AJ Burnett dominated through seven innings.
I was not home and did not see the game yet, prolly watch it after my game today. My team plays our third game of the season today on Long Island, we are 2-0 going for our third win today. Fortunately there are a lot of Mets fans on my team so I won’t have to put up with to much grief from Yankee fans.
Wish me luck guys I am pitching today.:D

I was not in favor of bringing in any new guys but not any more. Omar needs to get us some power in that lineup. We can't waste any more time and we can not depend on guys like Wright and Church who are a combined 0-for-15 in this series so far.

Tonight should be better with Livan Hernandez on the mound

It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words.
I don't think I could add anything about this weekends disaster that does not show here on David's face

Wake me when this nightmare is over! The Mets have so many holes right now, it's unbelievable. No wonder Buffalo can't win, all their players are on the Mets. This season is on the brink of going down the tubes unless we get some inspired play from a couple of guys. Woe is us. Let's go METS!!!

It’s really quite incredible really, I mean I understand the Mets are playing with many of the key guys out but how come it is affecting those that are playing. Guys like Wright, Church, Murphy and Cora are playing A ball not even AAA ball. Then, as if that were not bad enough the pitching which was our only hope has now fallen completely apart, from Santana all the way through to the bull pen. I could not believe how badly Nieve pitched yesterday, he was overthrowing, and seemed to lost all command of certainly his fastball. So now we have no offense and no pitching. How the Hell did this happen.

There has been a lot of talk over the last couple of days about acquiring another bat, maybe Adam Dunn. While I would have no problem supporting that idea I have to wonder if one bat is going to help all that much, a spit in the ocean is about all it would amount to. In addition how are we gong to make any kind of trade when we have so little to offer? The Cards made a nice deal for DeRosa but they had the talent to make the deal happen we do not. We would have to consider giving up all we do have, Martinez, Murphy, guys like that. cause we have no one worth much in our farm system. Everyday I go back and forth on this issue as to whether I wanna make a trade or wait this out. I wish I knew when Reyes will be back as well as Beltran and so many others. It is almost like perhaps all of em will be back after the All Star break and if that is the case I would wait it out…...I guess.

The latest on Beltran is scary, he is having a second opinion on his right knee, this one from an orthopedic surgeon. If could turn out that Carlos will need what is called microfracture surgery which would mean he is done for ’09 and maybe for good. Cue the O’Fortuna music. :help:

Oh, and we are one game below .500.

I mentioned that Ollie Perez might pitch for the Cyclones this weekend and he did. But since I had my own game goin on I could not make it to Brooklyn. One of my boys did go and called to tell me Ollie was really very good.
He dominating the batters striking out six and allowing just two hits.
SOB, can you imagine that. of course it may not mean much cause we have all seen Ollie pitch well one day and then crash and burn than next, so we will see.
I was happy he maintained the Cyclones at home record where they are undefeated, and 7-2 overall.

Next stop for Ollie is on Friday when he will pitch in buffalo, if that goes well he will be back in the rotation the following week. I have no great expectations there what so ever. Now we hear that Manual had this new idea of piggybacking Perez with Redding. In other words they would both pitch in the same game sharing the innings. WHAT??? For Gods sake someone hit Manual in the head or kick him in the ass cause that is just plain nutz. If Ollie does return, put him in the lineup for a start, then when (not if) he falls on his ass send him to the pen. I want to give redding and of course Nieve more time before we make any move with them.

The Mets follies continue tonight with Johan Santana and Mike Burns.

Yesterday’s follow up exam on Beltran’s knee went well. It is bruise and nothing more.
He will not need surgery and doctors feel he could return after the All Star break.

Often I have said some critical things about Jerry Manual but I want to come to his defense about something he said Monday. Jerry said “we are a below average team” A lot of sportscasters jumped on him for that basically saying Jerry should not make statements like that about his team. It hurts morale bla bla. What those fools fail to see is that Jerry was referring to the fact that the Mets have fallen behind .500 which makes them below the average of .500. I believe he meant nothing more than the fact that they are playing below the average of .500. Those fools should not be turning the words that Jerry said is all I’m sayin.

After yesterdays game Santana went on a hissy fit in the locker room acting very much the child. Grow up Johan pull yourself together and put that negative energy into something that can help the Mets in this very bad time.

I dono what is next for the team but I can feel it in my bones as I am sure all of you reading this have as well. Something big is coming.
Have faith Mets fans, never give up. Yes we have a lot of problems and yes things look bleak but if you are a true Mets fan you will support the team and continue to support them.
There is a JUBer by the name of KingGumby V11who is a die hard National’s fan, almost every day he post in Http://www.justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=255531 thread about how his team is doing. The Nats are in the basement and have yet they have their days of glory. He stands by his team through all the bad as well as the good. I admire fans like him; we all need to carry that spirit with the Mets as well.

Sorry to have been far more spectator than participant here recently, but my Mets drive me so up and down I feel I should hold back for awhile.I've talked more than enough anyway;)Sonny holds down the fort with honor and it's always good to see other Mets fans like syam and chance give their perspectives.

Will offer a couple of thoughts today.I can be quiet for only so long;)

Thanks Mike Pelfrey for giving the Mets a shot in the arm,a good quality effort of shutout ball over seven and two thirds innings.1-0 victory for the Mets over the Brewers this afternoon. We can still use the offense from an outside quality bat to help give support and a little encouragement to this lineup til the walking wounded start getting back. But the truth is,adding a bat or not every Met,position player and pitcher has to look to step up.Whatever the Mets do,getting ahead in te pennant race is going to depend primarily on those already here.A fresh face can give a needed shot in the arm but this club ultimately has to believe in itself, and play like it is a serious, hungry contender.Getting more players can easily be used as a crutch to make it easier to not commit fully to a winning culture....and this club if anyting needs to have a total refocusing on its commitment to playing winning baseball. The same mistakes come around so much to haunt the Mets it is time to put up or shut up...stop saying what needs to be done, and instead get the hell doing it.

I love David Wright, but has to stop trying to be the man and relax...not in terms of slacking off of course but for God's akes,he has 75 strikeouts already and where is Howard Johnson on getting him to shorten his swing? He's either hitting the ball all over the place or looking lost,overpowered....hitting the weirdest .340 possible.Makes incredible plays defensively like last night, then makes boneheaded throws, stupid mental mistakes that someone this good should not be doing.Love ya David and super happy you're going to be in Abs' stretch of the woods for the All Star Game...but for goodness sake, chill! Not in your effort, just your approach!

missed the game today - nice win - good not to be swept - is what we are left with

jerry manuel is a tool

lies like a rug

our team is not good
we have a good team

make up ur mind jerry

a charlatan is what he is

not suggesting it is his fault we cannot win right now - cuz this team has so many holes well ............ u know

santana needs to get his shit together
pelfrey needs to pitch more often like he did today
nieves needs to get his MOJO back

we need to win 2-1 consistently

not likely

but the only way we win is with really good pitching

and a little D wouldn't hurt

Pelf was just plain awesome, He was in total command of his stuff. His best pitch is his sinker which he pitches in to right handers and away with the lefties. Pelf needs to do what he did and that was to use both sides of the plate and use all four of his pitches. We know that his sinker is his best pitch and so do the opposing hitters, so I think the only way he can get away with that is to use his secondary pitches.

Grandma John Franco needs to shut the fuck up. yeah yeah we all know the Mets are having problems but I am so sick and tired of all these has-been sportscasters and athletes who think they have all the answers.
The Mets as a team have an important element that is not being talked about enough, and that I a respect for one another, most of em watch each others back. Since Wagner left you never hear any bad mouth of one player about another (Billy was good at that). Now Santana…. That fool was totally out of line in his rant about the “other guys” F. Martinez in particular. What Johan failed to accept is the fact that it was he who walked all those pitchers (seriously Johan, you walked the pitcher.... again?) and it was he who threw the ball away in Tuesday’s game. Of course I understand Martinez lost the game by not catching that ball, but he is a 20 year old kid doing the best he can. The grass came out from under him, it was a physical error not a mechanical one. He is only on the team because of all the injuries and wants nothing more than to contribute and do well. Forgotten is the great plays he has made since taking over for Beltran, and there have been a few. He also got his first major league home run in Tuesday’s game. But all Santana do is fret and whine and carry on like a 5 year old about that catch Fernando missed. Good move for Manual putting Martinez back in the line up on Wednesday. I think that vote of confidence nay have healed the hurt caused by Santana who should have picked up Martinez like any good pro would have done.

I hope Johan paid attention at Jerry’s meeting when he told the guys to support one another and stay together as a unit. He even had all the guys ride the bus and have breakfast together the next day. A strong message of solidarity that was not missed by me.

A win today in the make up game with the Pirates would sure be a sweet way to send is off to the struggling Phillies. "struggling Phillies" man it felt good to type that. ;)

Let’s go Redding and the Mets

^not a John Franco guy - not at all

I think he held on way too long - as a very ineffective pitcher towards the end - and looking for more than he was entitled to

but in this case i agree with him

no on the field leadership IMO

haven't had it - perhaps a reason for 2 str8 end of year meltdowns

is it wright's job to do? perhaps

bottom line is there doesn't seem to be a "let's do it" voice in the clubhouse and while i don't think rah rah is the way it has to be ................... it appears that the mets are lacking a leader on the field

wish someone other than franco had said it
