Sonny,"your rock";) is a very happy Mets fan!Just wanted to cool things off,I was getting too demoralized and upset about the club for so early in the season.Another win today by John Maine and even though the Mets still have flaws they are in a MUCH better situation than a week ago. They won't win every game but the most important things are that they continue to show resiliency and mental toughness even during the inevitable setbacks they will face through the season. As long as they can keep an edge to how they play,we know they'll be capable of taking the division and beyond. With their talent, that's all Mets fans should rightly ask of them.

Oh,and Scrub(*8*):kiss:The Phillies didn't do so good against the Mets this week, hmmm?!:p

I hear you sausy, it’s hard to get to excited now cause we have been here before only to be let down. But somehow I feel this time it may be different, this time I thin it will last. You know like I always say “ya gotta believe” :D

Yesterday John Maine improved even more on last start. Perhaps he needs to work a bit more on his changeup, but his command was very good. The most important thing was his strike to balls ratio which he really improved. There were fewer walks this time out, only had two and one was intentional. What I wanna see John do now is lower his pitch count so he can go deeper into the game to at least 7. Yesterday he went six innings, allowing three hits, one run, while striking out three. John and Pelf are coming along nicely. Nether of em are showing any signs at all of their injuries.
The pen is so much improved and that has got to get you excited, and how bout that Ken Takahashi,
you have to love his stuff

The Phillies lost yesterday (thanks Atlanta) and so we are in first place. :=D:
Today the Mets go for another sweep and their seventh straight win with Livan Hernandez against Snell

Scrub, come out from hiding under the bed,

The Mets have been on a tear as of late! Good for them! I knew they were a good team, and I think it's beginning to show.

Don't worry Scrub - you can always post this video

(even though it's not the best quality, you get the idea LOL)

(*8*) to sonny & Sausy to pour salt in....

:rotflmao:

Not under any rock boys :D

Hey it's early in the season the Phils explode near the end. They like to keep the excitement going.

It's all good.

What a great week for the Mets! It's great when a plan comes together, and it helps to play the Pirates, but the Mets machine is clicking on all cylinders right now. Let's keep this train rolling in the right direction. Let's go METS!!

Yup, well said sweetie, although I gotta admit I loved watching the Braves win that series this weekend.

Poor Yankees.

Hey Brad, you and Abs have ta love love those 20 wins you guys have. ..|
by the way, miss Manny much?? To bad the yankees didn't sign him.

What a great week for the Mets! It's great when a plan comes together, and it helps to play the Pirates, but the Mets machine is clicking on all cylinders right now. Let's keep this train rolling in the right direction. Let's go METS!!

The Mets continue to roll with excellent starting pitching. Hernandez had some hick ups yesterday but he worked himself out of any trouble. He allowed 11 base runners over six innings, but held the Pirates to two runs. He also helped himself pout with a soft liner to left in the bottom of the fifth.
Green continues to struggle walking the first batter he faced in the ninth then allowing a two-run bomb before settling down to get the next three hitters and finish the game.
I guess you could say that the Mets have a problem with the guys I the pen. But it’s a great problem to have, because the starters are going deeper, the pen gets less work and guys like Stokes sit around a lot. But like I said, it’s a problem I don’t mind having.

The Mets are winning because the pitching has come along way, both in the starters and the relievers. But the offense has also come to life in a big way. I especially like the way we have been scoring late in he game which for a while we were not doing at all. We now get hits early, middle and late in the game, and that’s a winning formula.

Jose Reyes stole his 300th base. Ricky must be beaming with pride.
Daniel Murphy is growing a beard, I don’t like it, but what I do like is the way he is adjusting to left field.

Oh, and ya had to love those pink bats yesterday.

Big match up tonight, Santana and Lowe, should be fun.

Well… I knew it would end soon, but it was a nice ride while it lasted..
But it’s the way we lost that bugged me.

Johan was excellent but not outstanding, but hey, I expect him to have days where he is only great but not dominant. I expected Lowe to be sharp and that it would be a low scoring game. But what happened to our bats after Derek left the game? I thought, now we were gonna bust out and have a breakout 8th and 9th inning. But that ain’t what happened, not only did our pen fail but our bats remained cold. Of course we were not only hurt by the offense but the defense went south as well. In the seventh, Reyes made an enormous error which should have been the third out. Instead, the Braves went on to score four unearned runs. David Wright gave the Braves an unearned run as well.

What the hell is up with the guys not being to get hits when Santana is on the mound?

The Braves pretty much all got hits, even Lowe.

Yesterday I mentioned Daniel Murphy’s beard and how I did not like it, well dude sine you grew that thing you have not performed well, shave it off

Because the marlins and Phillies were off we are still in first place and I gotta believe we will be back tonight and start playing like the champions they are expected to play like.

I usually don’t include things like this in a sports post but it was a dream I had last night that I had to share.
It was me and the adorable Mr nice guy, SNY field reporter Kevin Burkhart.
There we were in a locker room talking baseball and all of a sudden Kevin grabs for my crotch. Yup, HE initiated it, I mean I love the guy, he is so friendly and sweet and man on man does he know baseball. But I never thought about Kevin in that way. But my subconscious apparently does. !oops!
In the dream I stopped Kevin and nothing else happened. Yeah, like that would have happened.
With the lust I have for D Wright and Daniel Murphy I can’t figure out why I would have that dream about Kevin. Thing is, if I run into him again at a Cyclone game I can’t even talk to him about it. Or can I?

Ok enough silliness, I just need to share that dream.
Looks like Schneider is no closer to returning. He still has yet to even begin his extended spring training, he still can’t run. So good news for Santos who will be around a while longer and that at least is the good news.
Delgado is being bothered by the hip again and had to sit out last night’s game, he may be out a day or two. It’s a chronic thing with Carlos, and the Mets are going to watch him just about all season.
Tatis filed in last night but he was shaky at first, blowing a coupe of plays.
Some guys were surprised to see Reed at right to replace the struggling Church instead if Sheffield. Seems like Jerry does not want to give Gary much playing time. But you have to think it was done cause Reed is a lefty and would have been more effective against the righty Lowe, Sheffield bats from the right side. It did not matter much since the bats were mostly dead last night anyway. But that’s why I think Manual put Reed pout there instead if Sheffield. Truth be told I like Reed a lot and prefer him in the line up as opposed to Sheffield.

Ok Omar are you still so sure you made the right choice in signing Perez instead of Lowe?
We never saw Ollie pitch as well as Derek did last night. I get it though, Derek would be 40 at the end of the 4 year deal he wanted so you opted for the younger Perez. We have to hope and expect that Lowe will deteariate over the next four years where Ollie will grow and perform better over time. As my Mom would say, my lips to Gods ears. ;)

Last nite's game was a bummer the way it ended, let's hope it's an aberration. Very sloppy infield play. The problem with not hitting for Santana is tied to the fact that most of the time, he pitches against the other team's #1 guy, but that being said, the Mets still need to hit better when he pitches. He's in good position to win the Cy Young award if they hit for him. Would like to see a good outing again from Pelfrey tonite. Rick

Yeah, I hear what your sayin, the opposite team often has their ace on the mound when ever santana pitches. Funny how if they did not have that rain out between Santanas starts it would not have been Lowe on the mound last night.
But it;s cool cause I wanted to see a Santana/Lowe match up. I just wanted it to end up better. Theses losses are gonna hurt Johan's Cy Young chances and must stop.
An abberation you say? Yeah I think so. I sure hope Pelf will be on his game tonight. We need theses wins, cause next week we face the Giants who don't worry me as much as the Dodgers who do. then we go to Boston
We gotta be sharp and at the top of our game for those series.
Basically next week we separate the men from the boys.
Lets Go Mets!

Soooo, was that Sonny or Sausy who streaked CitiField last nite?? Whomever, the Mets pulled one out of their collective butt late to whip the Braves. We had good Ollie and bad Ollie, now it seems we might have good Jose, bad Jose. I know these guys are just trying to make things happen, but please, just play "heads up" baseball. Take what they give you, and don't press, especially against the better playing teams. The Braves play good fundamental baseball, hit the relay men, good throws, etc. The Mets, more often than not, have a tendancy to get away from that. Seems like everyone is trying to be the "hero" and make the sensational play. I'm not blaming them for trying hard, but perhaps they're trying a bit too hard. Well, enuff nitpicking, the victory was welcome and another superb outing by Pelfrey. Here's hoping Jon Niese has a nice game today. Let's go METS!!

:rotflmao:

Wait - I didn't hear about a streaker! (!)

I love what you wrote syam, and yeah it's been a while since that streaker thing has happened. SNY decided not to dignify the whole thing by showing any part of it on TV.
Gotta love how that story perked up our boy Abs (*8*)
Wait a sec, I know it wasn't me but just where was saucy when that happened.

Reyes made a dumb move to be sure, stupid actually, but he knows it and I doubt he will try anything like that again.

Yesterday we were reminded why we call em the Amazins
Down 3-0 in the 9th we tied the game and then won in the 10th with Beltan's game winning RBI walk.

Big Pelf pitched his best game yet, Lots of zip on his fastball an effectively using his secondary pitches and throwing strikes, which we have not seen Mike do all that much. He even picked up the pace a bit. Loaded with confidence he made it look easy. I was sorry and even angry at first with Manuals no confidence in Mike by pulling him after 7, there w no need to bring Putz in.
In fact Putz loaded the bases and gave the Braves another run and eventual win went to K-Rod instead of Pelf. So not happy about that, but then that’s what Jerry sometimes does. He pulled Santana out on Monday when I thought he should not have. I mean Johan is the best in the game and was pitching well as usual, Did Jerry think he needed to replace Johan. No, dumb move.
Another dumb move on Jerry’s part was to pull Murphy out of the game and use Sheffield who ended up popping up and did not even leave the bag. The ball ended up fair and Gary should have been running. Watching Murphy, who should have had that at bat, looking desponded with his head down in the dugout was sad to watch. Jerry has got to have more confidence in Daniel against left handers. Oh, and Daniel did cut off that lousy beard but it didn't’t help he went 0-3.

Looks like a decision won’t be made about Delgado until the team gets to the west coast, he might be put on the DL as early as Friday. That’s a big deal cause we need his bat in that tough important road trip coming up. Hopefully Church will come put of his coma and take up the slack.

Highlight of the game? Beltran beating that call at third? or working out that game winning walk" Well no, that would be Braves closer Gonzales slamming his glove to the ground in the dugout after blowing the save. :p
We got a real break with that Beltran slide onto 3rd in the 9th. He got the call but looked for sure in the replay that he was out, he slide right into Chippers glove, but thems the breaks. ;)
I was also happy to see K-Rod come back to pitch a second inning in the 10th Even though I have a lot of confidence in Parnell who prolly would have pitched I was glad to see k-Rod in there.
Great finish, Mets getting the job done like the used to do. :=D:
But watch out for the braves today, they are pissed, I mean PISSED. They believe the Mets stole the game and will be looking for revenge. We have Niese again today looking to add on to his winning game last week. The Braves have Jo-Jo Reyes who I think the Mets can own today.

Sorry to tell you guys the Mets have demoted Nick Evans from Triple-A Buffalo to extended spring training. Evans was hitting .227 on the Triple-A level with 27 strikeouts in 75 at-bats. He seems to have hit a wall which was a big surprise to me. Maybe he is dealing with some sort of mental issue. hopefully the kid will work it out soon.

Meanwhile Angel Pagan has joined Triple-A Buffalo on a rehabilitation assignment.
You will remember Pagan had surgery to remove a bone spur in his right elbow and was placed on the disabled list in early April, then I told you guys about his getting arrested for driving while suspended, and for warrants, due to unpaid tickets. Well, he was bailed out and finished up his rehab stint in Port St. Lucie and now he will join the Mets AAA affiliate in Buffalo. Man up Angel, stop the BS and concentrate on your career, you are better than that and we want you back in NY, especially if Delgado is out for any length of time. If Delgado goes on the DL, Manuel will use a combo of Tatis, Murphy, and Reed at first base, which will make room for Pagan and not Evans as a fifth outfielder.

Still up there,sonny...just viewed it.Great slide:D,and kinda cute,too!

Though today's 8-7 loss kind of put a damper on the fun festivities yesterday....the streaker, the great walk off win.

I am glad the You Tube video is still up but if it is taken down we still have the link that syam found for us.

Saucy, you sound like I feel a very disappointing effort from the Mets yesterday.
Jonathon Niese did not pitch well at all, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. He did strike out five but walked two in the game. The Braves got his number early and took advantage of that. I liked his 92 MPH high fastball and watching those Braves swinging at it. Someone needs to tell some of those Brave batters that you just can’t hit that pitch, it’s just to much outta the strike zone. But whatta I know.

Chipper Jones was on a mission yesterday after what happened with him and Beltran on Tuesday. The chipster started the day with 2 doubles and a sac fly. So it felt good to see him misplay that Reyes double. :p

Is Sheffield coming back to life? I see him busting out now which with Delgado out we could use right now, I wish the same for Church.

The Mets made the decision on the flight to Cali last night and Jon Niese has been optioned back to Triple-A Buffalo. But although I half expected that I thought maybe they would give Redding a shot. but it will be Nelson Figueroa. Redding may still be activated as early as Monday however.
I feel bad for Niese it was his big shot, did you know he was born on the same day the Mets won the WS in 1986? Born to be a Met ya might say. ;)
Now if JJ Putz could get back on track, I mean what is his problem? I am beginning to get that OH NO not him feeling when he takes the mound, especially with men on base.
Kevin Burkhardt said that Putz says he’s having trouble getting extra life on his fastball in the eighth-inning role. Maybe we used him to much this season; it seems to have affected him. Then there is this, and I know it may sound odd but could the idea that he is the #8 man and not the closer be screwing with his head. I mean he seemed to be ok with that originally, I’m just sayin.
Now we come to the errors, WTF is up with Jose Reyes? He seems to get worse and worse every day. That base running mess in the seventh, getting thrown on trying to advance from second to third on a grounder to short. Then there was that Castillo hit that Reyes failed to slide on which was a contributing factor to our losing the game. Tuesday, he let a ball skip through his legs and it cost the Mets four more unearned runs. But yesterday’s error bothered me the most cause he just is not focused and is forgetting some very fundamentals about running. Any baseball player will tell you that you have to read the ball off the bat. I dono what Reyes was doing but he did not do that and if he can’t or does not understand that, then he better learn or stop trying to advance.

He all you equipment managers out there please stop issuing the same color uniforms as the opposing team is wearing like in yesterdays Mate/Braves game. I can’t tell the good guys from the bad guys.

A last thought on Nick Evans, I told you guys yesterday Nick was going back for extended spring training. That is a big blow to the kid and I can’t help but wonder ho he slid down so far so quickly. Some have suggested that the demotion after having had a taste of the big time was very hard on him and he hasn’t recovered from that blow. I still remember and writing about here about his outstanding spring debut, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs in a Mets win. From that point on, it seemed that Evans role with the Mets was looking really good. But we had to make room for Sheffield and so Nick was sent back to Buffalo, I think a little stunned by what bad luck had just hit him like ice water in the face. I kept an eye on him in Buffalo and was shocked to see him go 2-for-30 (both singles), no RBIs and strike out about a dozen times.
Makes me wonder if all his problems are mental over his demotion and loss of his high hopes in the majors what would have happened to him if the Mets had never signed Gary Sheffield.

So it’s off to the west coast and the Giants and Dodgers. I can not even begin to predict what will happen there, because the Mets are just so unpredictable.
I am hanging on to the fact that in spite of what happened with Atlanta we still won 9 out of the last 12, and that ain’t bad.
