New York Mets 2010-11 Winter report

Well, the Mets finally consumated the long rumored signing of Chris Young, late of the Padres. Let's hope he is healthy enuff to provide some starting rotation help. Would be nice to see him or Capuano provide some stability to the starting staff until Johan returns.

Syam, I like the Chris Young signing; if he passes his physical he will get a one-year deal. I am thinking he will hold down the back-end of the rotation behind Mike Pelfrey, Jon Niese, R.A. Dickey and Chris Capuano. That will also give Dillon Gee a chance to start out as a starter in Triple-A Buffalo unless they decide to use him in the bullpen with an occasional spot-start.

Yup Saucy Collins is looking better and better every day. I was interested to find how many Mets players have not even met him. Ike Davis DWright Carlos Beltran and Jason Bay are just a few of the Mets that have met or spent any time with him, many of the others like Reyes and Pagan for example have not. So Jerry is planning a Mets night out for his player that includes bowling and pizza. No word yet about what they will was that pizza down with yet. ;) Collins said he feels it will be a way of trying to build team unity. Collins will also speak at the Bisons annual Hot Stove Luncheon this Friday. Collins managed the Bisons for three seasons from 1989-1991 and was inducted into the Buffalo Bisons Hall of Fame in 1992.

Arbitration-eligible Mike Pelfrey has settled with the Mets, the deal will pay Pelfrey nearly $4 million in 2011.Angel Pagan and R.A. Dickey also are arbitration-eligible and are due to exchange salary figures today with a February hearing if there's no settlement. I know for a fact Dickey wants very much to avoid a hearing

The rumor mil regarding the Mets signing Scott Hairston is working overtime it could happen any time now. What bothers me most about that is that if Scott and Harris make the Opening Day roster, where will that leave my man Nick Evans. I will be speaking to Nick this weekend and maybe have more on that but it worries me cause I want Nick on the team next year, he has been working hard all winter and he was having a great season in 2010 till he got hurt. I’m worried about this.

On a fun note I wanted to share something Ike Davis said, You may have heard the goofy talk of Albert Pujolis coming to the Mets (Abs if you are reading this please breathe)
well just for the Hell of it when Ike was asked how he felt about that he said "He would be a fuckin reliever to get Albert". Ike as many of you know started out as a pitcher in Arizona State. He is a lefty and in fact he was a pretty darn good one. In 2007 he posted an ERA of 1.35 and in ’08 it was 2.25, but the Ike man does not want to pitch he prefers to play right where he is. Ike is of course the son of pitcher Ron Davis.

The Nationals have agreed to sign Alex Cora to a minor league deal

like the Young signing as well but ........

did not renew my 15 game plan for several reasons

1 - the sunday package renewal sucked - very few sun afternoon games - very few vs. divisional opponents

shitty offering IMO

2 - don't have a good feeling about the team's chances this year - did nothing really to shore it up - lost Takahashi (big loss) - no adds that suggest better

3 - IMO I will be able to buy tickets for games I want to go to at no premium - might even be at less

Mets off season very disappointing

you would never know they're a big market team

In a few hours the Mets will annouince the 40 man roster move to make room for Chris Young later today, after informing the players. Needlwess to say many of the boys are waitin for the phone to ring.
I have two guys I am waiting to get word on and they are of course Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans. This latest signings of Harris and Hairstoin are going to make it tough for Evans and that is jusr so wrong. Nick has been bounced around long enough and should get a spot. I was happy to hear that Terry Collins is not counting out Evans, even with Harris and Hairston. Collins realizes that Nick has no minor-league options left and has said it's not time to count out Evans. I would think since Hairston is a righty like Evans the battle is more than the lefty Harris. I like that Collins understands how well Evans did for us before getting hurt last season I mean all he did was hit, just about every time he’s gotten his chances, he’s hit. His right-handed power is needed for our bench or he can play a couple of positions, its called versatility. So lets just all hope that the signing Harris and Hairston does not mean the end of Nick Evans career with the Mets cause as I told you guys a few times all ready he is now out of options and he will have it rough making it through waivers.
As for Murphy Collins has said he likes Murphy’s ability to play both first and third base as a utility player. Collins said Daniel Murphy will get a legitimate look for the second-base job in spring training. I happen to know that Collins told Murphy to be prepared for spring-training action at first base and third base. He told Murph he knows he wants the second-base job and promised him that opportunity. But he also told Murph to be ready to play some first base and some third base, because they’re going to need backups also. Collins acknowledged Murphy should be an effective lefty bat for the bench if he's not the second-base starter. He just wants Murphy to be exposed to first base and third base as well. Fingers toes crossed for both my boys.

Yesterday, the Mets hosted an event for Citi Field Kids which gave a group of kids from Queens the chance to learn about Jackie Robinson, visit the clubhouse, and meet some of the players, Jose Reyes, RA Dickey, Mike Pelfrey, Josh Thole, Bobby Parnell and Dillon Gee were all there
A great question came from one of the kids who asked what’s the hardest pitch to throw and Collins pointed to Dickey and said “he throws it“
Josh Thole said he is happily married for one month and a half, he and wife have got their new Arizona home put together and are lovin life as a couple

Kevin Burkhardt went to Citi for that event yesterday got a lot of great interviews from Reyes and promised the one he got from Pelfrey will make me laugh. KB will also show some of that visit he made to DWrights home last week. See it all tonight on SNY Mets Hot Stove at 730

Buffalo Bisons call press conference for Friday. Mets' top affiliate expected to introduce Tim Teufel as manager.

Mike Pelfrey has been announced as the opening Day starter

Port St. Lucie complex will open for voluntary workouts beginning Monday, although most of the guys won’t be there till after 2/1

Talk about rough training, a couple of Mets players went to the New York Fire Department’s training academy this morning, they were in full firefighter gear, going through training exercises like Pelfrey putting out a burning car and Dillon Gee sliding down the side of a tower. Yikes!!

So I spent most of the weekend talking Jets but I did take a few minutes out to think and talk about our Mets.
I got a call from my buddy Darrell Ceciliani who for those of you do not know played outfield for the Cyclones and was drafted by the Mets in the 4th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft. Darrell is home in Oregon, we caught up with a bunch of stuff and he also told me they have chosen a replacement manager for Wally Backman to manage the Cyclones in 2011; he is Rich Donnelly who last year was a minor league instructor for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and also was the third base coach for the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers for a while. Darrell figures with that LA connection he had to be tight with Collins and DePodesta, just like Mike Easler who came up from LA to be a Double-A hitting coach. Darrell and I have often played racquetball and he tells me that Donnelly was a championship player, that will get the conversation going when I met him in June,
I am hoping he will want to play. he will replace Wally Backman, who going to be manager of the Double-A Binghamton Mets.

The Buffalo Bisons made it official and named Tim Teufel manager, he will wear #11, and he succeeds Ken Oberkfell, who has been promoted to Mets bench coach.

To make room on the 40 man roster for Chris Young and Scott Hairston, the Mets are gonna designate for assignment Tobi Stoner and Jason Pridie. If not traded they would be placed on waivers, where they can be claimed by any team. Of course this means the Mets have done what they have been saying they would do leave Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez on the 40-man roster and bring them to spring training.

Port St. Lucie opens on Monday it’s when Mets camp opens for any player who wants to come in early, Terry Collins will be there, I will check in tomorrow to see who shows up. Murphy said he was planning on going Feb 1st. But he lives in Florida so he might change his plans especially with Collins being there so early. Dono yet what Nick Evans is doing, he turns 30 next weekend and it will be a party time for sure so he will prolly go down the first couple of days in February as well.

Hoy crap..Nick Evans is 30!! I thought he was in his early to mid 20s lol

gtru, I hear ya dude, I wanna share a little backstory about yesterday when I “mistakenly”wrote that Nick Evans is going to be 30 next week instead of 25. When I turned 30 last year Nick was goofin on me about it pretty good. He started calling me “pops" and then there some Viagra jokes…
lets just say Mr Nicholas Reginald Evans enjoyed my milestone a little too much. I promised myself when that brat turned 30 I was going to get even with him. Perhaps when I wrote his age yesterday my subconscious took over and I wanted to turn the clock ahead a few years so I could get my revenge.

So what would happen if the Mets had a little sleepover party before the start of spring training you ask?
Well maybe it would go something like this

David Wright arrives first to set everything up. He's hoping this will show management he can be the captain. Just as Fred, Jeff, and Sandy are about to check out David's work Jose Reyes rushes in and crashes into David's elaborate sign-in board and eye-catching setup Thus dashing any hopes of David acquiring the captaincy
Nick Evans walks in with Daniel Murphy and they both find they have been left out from the assigned sleeping bag setup. They are forced to interrupt David's scolding of Jose to ask about this mistake. However, this turns out to be anything but a mistake when David tells Nick and Daniel that he is planning on getting rid of anybody else who can play third base. Knowing there is no way either of them will take David's everyday third base job they seek out the extra sleeping bags in the corner of the room. David's plan of being the only one capable of playing third base is faulty anyway, as he set up places for Scott Hairston and Zach Lutz who have both arrived and taken their spots.

Next R.A. Dickey walks in with Mike Pelfrey. Unsurprisingly R.A. has brought enough books for the entire roster. He takes it upon himself to clear off the table of appetizers to show off his book collection. David tries to compromise and share the table but Pelf acts as a bodyguard for the books and David gets nowhere.

Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, Bobby Parnell, and Josh Thole all walk in together. They are lightheartedly arguing about something. Possibly whether Jon or Bobby has a bigger nose. Mike Nickeas is dropped off by Tim Teufel and makes his way over to the group so he can be with Josh. He sees Ronny Paulino walking in behind him and wants the sleeping bag next to Thole.

Ruben Tejada comes in with Fernando Martinez. Fernando is talking about his top-prospect status. Thankfully Ruben doesn't seem to be listening.

Jason Bay runs into Angel Pagan on his way in. He tries to convince Angel that Carlos Beltran is evil and that Carlos should really move to right field. Alas, this proves costly for Jason as Carlos walks in right behind the other two outfielders and Jason finds himself in the biggest-nose argument which Ike Davis has joined as well.

Chris Young, and Chris Capuano arrive in the right place after wandering the outfield and bullpens looking for the sleepover. On their way in they found Chin-lung Hu circling second base and figured he was lost so they all found their way together.

Manuel Alvarez, Pedro Beato, Taylor Buchholz, D.J. Carrasco, and Armando Rodriguez all arrive unsure of whether they're on the team. Nobody seems to be able to deny their spots on the roster so they stick around for the night.

Meanwhile, David has taken to chasing Jose around the room. They knock over R.A.'s book table, angering both R.A. and Pelf. This impromptu game of tag runs through the biggest-nose argument. As they're all running around they confuse Young, Capuano, and Hu even more, as they don't know if this is normal behavior for the team. Carlos and Angel join the game and decide whoever wins plays center field and they get F-Mart and Tejada to judge. The group of misfits that just walked in seem to be running around in the game when they are actually just running wildly to look like they fit in.

Lucas Duda shows Josh Stinson, Jordany Valdespin, and Brad Emaus the way as he feels like a seasoned veteran compared the other minor leaguers. Luis Hernandez walks in behind them, broken foot healed, and is discussing whose home run was more unlikely with Johan Santana.

Jenrry Mejia is talking to Manny Acosta as they arrive. Manny is telling Jenrry how he's managed to stick around for so long with such mediocre pitching. Such great influences on the Mets these days.

Pat Misch sees the books scattered on the floor and picks up four and gets to his reading.

The Mets have all arrived. David manages to get everybody's attention so he can formally start the party. Terry Collins is the last one to come and is impressed by the team coming together so well. He's is perhaps the most impressed by the Justin Turner table that has been set up to show off his uber-red hair.

The night is going well. The books are cleaned up and another table is retrieved for the appetizers. The Mets are all getting along. Everybody thinks everybody else has arrived. That is until Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo both come just before 2 AM. They search the room for their sleeping bags. Unfortunately their sleeping bags were the "extras" that Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans found.

The rest of the Mets sleep soundly as Ollie and Luis and search Citi Field for blankets and pillows. It's 3 AM and most of the Mets are right where they're supposed to be.

Let's Go Mets!

Oh yes! Francisco Rodriguez eventually shows up. He is provided with a punching bag to keep the rest of the team safe.

I think the Mets got a couple of serviceable pitchers with the signings of TIm Byrdak and Blaine Boyer. I know Boyer has bounced around a bit, but should be able to provide some innings out of the pen, and Byrdak, a leftie, did a pretty nice job with the Astros last year, holding lefty batters to a .213 avg.

Yup gtru, the 2013 All Star game at Citi is a done deal, lets see how all those top of the line hitters do at big bad Citi. ;) As for Frenchie I am not one of those guys getting down on him for calling Citi Field a joke, a lot of players had big time problems adjusting to that park, very few commented on it; Dwright hinted, so did Jason Bay. Chipper Jones came out and said it loud and clear that the place sucked. But Wright proved that you can make the adjustment, the first year he could not get the ball out of the park but last year he came back and proved that yes you can. Look, it’s the fourth worst park for home runs in baseball it also ranks in the bottom five for hits and doubles
A lot of guys will tell you the biggest problem with the stadium is the right field wall and the right-center field gap which is 415 feet to the wall in that gap, I mean it’s gotta be frustrating when you think you crush a ball to right or left center and the guy catches it at the warning track. In spite of the rankings I think it for sure has improved the doubles and triples, but when you are a power hitter you want the ball to leave the park. We know the dimensions of Citi Field aren't going to give away an easy home run, and like I said there are benefits to the hitters; doubles and triples are easier even for the slow running guys. On the up side there are the Citi Field corners. It's 330 feet to the right field corner, and 335 feet to left field, but then there is the height of the left field wall to deal with.

Syam I will take anything we can get with pitching especially lefties

So I told you guys yesterday the Mets opened their spring-training complex for players who voluntarily chose to arrive early, and as I expected very few showed up, Terry Collins was there, I don’t have a complete list of who showed yesterday I do know that Luis Hernandez (who may face an uphill battle against Chin-lung Hu) and Brad Holt were there along with Brad’s roommate Scott Moviel, and another minor league kid Juan Lagares. Collins will be there a couple of days and then return to NY, he will return next Monday when a lot of the players plan on reporting, I know Evans and Murphy are going to be then. Collins thought not many came yesterday cause the word had not gotten out and that will improve as more and more guys get the message thru the week that they are open for business. Pitchers and catchers officially report Feb. 15. Position players report four days later.
Some of the coaches were there yesterday, our old bullpen coach Randy Niemann, who has now gone back to his old job as minor league rehab in Port St. Lucie. The new bull pen coach Jon Debus, came in early, along with some of the minor league strength and conditioning coaches

I was really happy to see Brad Holt show up early. He had a bad year in 2010 at AA Binghamton, with a 1-5 record and ERA just above 10; I think that was in 9 starts. He was demoted to A St. Lucie, where he went 2-9 with an ERA of about 7.50. I first met Brad when he played for the Cyclones, I am pretty sure I wrote about him and his awesome fastball, I was pretty excited about his pitching. As I recall his ERA that year with Brooklyn was just under 2. Have not spoken with him yet, he has a new number I don’t have, but when I catch up with him I will let you guys know how he is doing. Daniel Murphy did tell me that Brad was doing well when they were in the AFL, had some really good instruction I so want to see him bounce back, I am a big fan.

If you run into Kevin Burkhardt give him a hug over the Jets loss, he said he went thru 2 bags of cheese balls nervously watching that game, me thinks ya better get some running in KB.He is busy now doing prep work for the SNY Invitational

The Mets did not have anyone on MLB's top 50 major league prospects list. A little disheartening, but sometimes guys come out of nowhere to beat the experts in the evaluation game.

Syam I was not surprised by that it should have been better but ya have to remember The Mets don't have the prospects they should have and the ones they have were not playing every day. The fact is that the Mets haven't drafted particularly well over the last like 10 years. Think about it, not even in the junior college picks or four-year College picks
Our problem is that other than Mejia we have very few Major League-ready prospects. Jenrry Mejia was ineligible for the list because he no longer has rookie status, he is going to start 2011 in Triple-A. Guys like Matt Harvey, who remember was our first-round Draft pick last June, has what it takes but he has yet to pitch professionally, He ended up #85 in the list I could not understand why the Mets did not play him in AFL, instead all he did was work with the trainers…ridicules. Even thou I thought he did well in A ball it was clear he had command issues so at lest they worked on that, this according to Daniel Murphy.
My hopes were for Jenrry Mejia, Wilmer Flores, Matt Harvey, Reese Havens, Aderlin Rodriguez, Akeel Morris and Kirk Nieuwenhuis, and down the line but soon, Darrell Ceciliani, Cory Vaughn, Jeurys Familia and Juan Urbina. Flores did manage to come in at #58. Havens has power I love that kid but he is very young and has a history of leg and back injuries, it’s worse than F-Mart. Still if you followed Reese they way I did you would agree his bat for sure is almost MLB-ready. I could so see him make us almost forget Ruben Tejada in 2012; Reese is a much better offensive player than Rubin. In fact I think I wrote this before, if he can stay healthy and plays a full season in the Minor Leagues this year, we could see him in a September call up. Terry Collins likes him a lot.

I told you guys Daniel Murphy is not in camp yet but will probably get there Monday or Tuesday, he is still working hard in Jacksonville. Yesterday he took batting practice indoors at a High Intensity Training Center at Jacksonville University, where he has been since Christmas with Jeff Flagg (both boys are from there) it was raining like Hell so they took BP inside. As I have been telling you he is doing really well and will decide for sure about staying in Jacksonville or going to Lucie this weekend. He has said over and over all he can for in spring training is an opportunity to win a job. This by the way will be Murphy’s third spring training. Murphy will tell you that other than workin on second base piviting and double plays, he has put a lot of work trying to shorten up his stroke which is of course his throwing motion. It has gotten much better, he credits the work he has been able to do in the offseason even improving his footwork. I continue to ask abut his hamstring and he says there is no pain or problem he still thinks the whole thing happened cause of over doing it. Murphy played every single game in the Dominican and just maybe should have taken a day off here and there but typical Murph he did not. I know I have told you guys how intense he is.

I was happy to hear that Sandy Alderson has once again said that Howard Johnson will have a role with the organization in 2011, and NOT as a minor league manager. Ho Jo will be back we should find out more over the next week or so.

Tobi Stoner and Jason Pridie, who were designated for assignment to make room for Scott Hairston and Chris Young last week, have both cleared waivers and were assigned to Triple-A Buffalo

I dono what Kevin Burkhardt has in store for tonight’s Hot Stove I have not heard from him I think his house is buried in snow I hope to hear from him later to see if he will even make it in to NY. Kevin lives in Jersey.

Good reply on the prospects, Sonny. I know the Mets have some up and comers, just would like to see the "experts" think of them, too. But as you point out, many are in "other" categories due to time in service, injuries, not enuff pro time, etc. Starting to get antsy for spring training to start, once past the Super Bowl, it'll be all baseball (with some time for hockey).

Very happy to hear the Mets will indeed be hosting the 2013 All Star Game, sonny. Also glad to know Jason Pridie has cleared waivers and will return to the organization next year...know you really liked him as a player.

Yep,that's our Murph....intense and dedicated!Just knows now that overextending himself could be self-defeating,hopefully he'll continue to work smarter....we know he has the right kind of ethic, and I think soon enough Terry Collins will be in love with his talent and effort...just please stay healthy,Daniel and show m what you can do!..|

I kinda had a feeling about the prospect list....Jennry Mejia and Matt Harvey potentially can be really good, though.Flores I've heard varying accounts about...high strikeout, low walk, lot of talent but does he play hard enough and have the makeup to play with a good baseball IQ?Kirk Nieuwenhuis has ability and could be a JD Drew type player but again, strikes out alot compared to his relatively infrequent walks.I'm shocked Darren Ceciliani and Cory Vaughn, your boys from the Brooklyn Cyclones, weren't rated that high....maybe they do impressively this season they'll get more consideration.

Hoping the Mets under Sandy Alderson really build up their minor league system, too many questions about its depth for me but I think the Mets will be better than forecast especially if the players take Terry Collins'attempt to change the culture of the Mets to heart.Hopefully as well Ike Davis and Josh Thole build on their first seasons...Ike's gonna be a beast if he gets it all together, awesome power especially going the other way.

So it appears the Mets may not have lost money under the Bernie Madoff swindle but improperly "made off"with $48 million in profit being challenged in a lawsuit. Now they may bring in a partner,or find some other creative means to invest in the club without having their financial flexibilty compromised in dealing with the lawsuit.Fred and Jeff Wilpon insist still the Mets will have the flexibility to add to payroll if the need fits the situation with the right players before the trade deadline so let's hope the Wilpons are being honest with Met fans here,we've been through enough shit.

Syam unlike you I am not much of a winter sports guy, I watch Hockey but when played I mostly fell down did not do well with skiing either there was that falling down thing. !oops! I am all about simmer sports, Baseball of course, I love to Golf and swim as well. Racquetball /handball are also passions of mine, love basketball as well.

Yeah Saucy Murphy is a special kind of kid, I think I mentioned once that all he ever wants to talk about is baseball, just try and change the subject and sooner rather than later it’s back to baseball. :D As to Darrell and Cory I will meet up with them soon and report back what they will be up to this year, expect big things.

The Mets sale is a hugh mess, I went to the SNY invitational in Brooklyn courtesy of Kevin Burkhardt and a lot of guys were talking about it. I heard things like it’s not so unusual for a team to sell interests, all the way to the Wilpons are not going to survive and will sell the Mets, and not just 20-25%.
Most agree that you can believe little of what was said yesterday, those guys lie threw their teeth they always have. They have been saying over and over that the Madoff thing was not going to affect them all that much but we now know, as they did, that Was not true, despite the what we have heard from Fred and Jeff Wilpon over the past couple of years that the Mets-related side of their finances had nothing to do with their involvement in Madoff's Ponzi scheme, it seems that they haven't been totally truthful (what else is new with those guy) Hey Wilpons... ever heard the saying Just tell the truth, they’ll find out anyway?. Just like with all the BS you have been feeding us over the years. If ya wanna talk truth the Wilpons are just a couple of steps behind the truth every time they open their mouths
The trustee charged with recovering funds for Madoff victims, could be seeking as much as $1 billion from the Wilpon family, there's a Feb. 9 hearing brought by media companies to unseal the Picard lawsuit against the Wilpons and Sterling What will be taken in account is their conduct in addition to the Ponzi scheme gains which are thought to be close to $50 mil.
I wondered about SNY and Citi Field, supposedly they are not part of this, only the team.

Enough bad stuff, The Mt Vernon/St Anthony basketball game last night was outstanding, Kevin B. did the play by play and arrange for us to have very nice seats. Watching the Jabarie Hinds and Myles Mack matchup was awesome, Mack with12 points and 2 assists, those two are going to be stars. Mack got the best of Hinds beating Mount Vernon, 60-47 to advance to the championship game.

The Mets and R.A. Dickey have avoided arbitration and agreed to a two-year deal. The deal also includes a club option for a third season. Dickey will have his physical on Monday

Saucy I forgot to write yesterday I also believe the farm system is going to be improving greatly now that Tony D and his henchman are gone. I look for the new regime to make major developments in that area. We keep heading the Mets front office would like to find something for Omar; perhaps he could be helpful in prospects. Just as long as he stays in the background and just melts in quietly, no talking to the press please.
I also did not mention that Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Kai Gronauer are two prospects not currently on the 40-man roster but have invited to major league spring training camp. There are about 55 invitees so far including Kirk and I think the roster list is now around 53. Kirk spent the 2010 season in Triple-A, he hit .225 with 2 HR’s and 17 RBI’s in something like 120 at bats. Then there is Wilmer Flores who is likely to make the opening day roster at Binghamton or St. Lucie. The kids only 19 and hasn’t played above A-ball. I dono with his slow foot speed if he can play SS in the majors yet.

I spoke with Nick Evans last night to wish him Happy Birthday which is today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK!
He is going to spring training with that Hairston signing hanging over his head; it was a blow to Nick especially since both are righty hitters. What he knows he needs to do is try and beat out Willie Harris, even though Harris is a lefty hitter. The other possibility that Murphy came up with was if he (Murph) becomes the starting second baseman maybe they send Brad Emaus back to the Blue Jays. That way the bench would be Paulino, Hu, Harris, Hairston and Evans. Hu could back up middle infield, and Nick could back up the corner infield.
Terry …are you listening to what Daniel thinks should happen? Since Nick is out of options he says he may be auditioning for like 30 teams this spring. Of course, we haven’t even added injuries to the pot, as Murphy said there are always spring injuries that change things fast, and he should know since he was supposed to be the Opening Day first baseman last season until the knee injury. Because of that Mike Jacobs and Frank Catalanotto made the team. No one wants anyone hurt….we’re just sayin.

The birthday boy early in his career and now with DWright

So here is a funny thought! Why doesnt Mark Zuckerberg buy out the Mets lol, Facebook and him are worth Billions! He is from Westchester, so their could be a 50% chance he could be a Mets fan! lol..but in all honestly this off season has been a mess for them. i was talking to many of my co workers and many agree the Wilpons should sell the whole team to someone with atleast half a brain to run them.

Gtru, Facebook’s Zuckerberg sounds good that way we can POKE the players when they don’t pay well and Collins when he mismanages. ;)
All kinds of people are coming out of the woodwork showing interests in buying into the team. Martin Luther King III is heading up a group including Ed Kranepool and Don Clendenon, Jr. Also interested is Mike Repole, the founder of Vitaminwater just to name a few. Then there is word that the Wipons were involved in yet another ponzie scheme, Fred along with Saul Katz, actually were investors in what turned out to be a different Ponzi scheme and had to pay back money. Supposedly, the Wilpons returned $12.9 million two years ago under pressure. They had withdrawn their money from a fund before its collapse after smelling something was rotten there. We may see that poor jerk broke or in jail yet.
Meantime Fred Wilpon will meet Tuesday with MLB commissioner Bud Selig to discuss the family's financial troubles. Dono what that will amount to thou since Selig is ass hole buds with Wilpon, so it's prolly just an informational getting meet to see how deep the shit really is.

Some exciting news from the Brooklyn Cyclones who have announced changes to their staff.
Rich Donnelly is the new manager, Frank Viola pitching coach, Bobby Malek hitting coach

Donnelly, began his coaching career in 1972, he was a minor league manager in the Texas Rangers farm system and later joined the Rangers’ major league staff as the bullpen coach. He has had 26 seasons working on the major league level including 14 years with Jim Leyland’s coaching staff He has been third base coach for the Marlins, Brewers and Dodgers. He has some really big shoes to fill with Backman gone I look forward to meeting him and seeing how he manages my boys.

Viola, spent 15 seasons in the major leagues as a pitcher with the Mets, Twins, Red Sox, Reds and Blue Jays. A three-time All-Star, he was World Series MVP 1987 and won the American League Cy Young Award in 1988. I am pumped about this, how can we go wrong with Cy Young Award winner guiding our pitchers.

Malek was a coach for three years in the Mets minor league system. He was in AAA Norfolk for the International League in 2006.

I look forward to theses guys leading my Cyclones to the championship in 2011.
